So I’ve been a long time apogee user. starting at the duet 2 then ultimately the quartet. What I loved about the quartet (outside of the beautifully musical conversion) was the feature set. To not need an additional monitor switcher has been the key to keeping my A/D conversion pure.
Recently I decided to take a leap of faith and try the ensemble (the costs over 1000$ more). It comes with the same features I’ve come to need plus an internal talk back, dedicates guitar amps on the front panel, thunderbolt technology, and its racked (freeing up my desk). Overall it was a win on all accounts.
My only fear was that my Mac mini’s singular thunderbolt port would be occupied the ensemble thus killing my ability to use a secondary monitor. Apogee solves this by adding an extra thunderbolt port on the ensemble, allowing me to daisy chain a second device from
It =-)
So far I am completely satisfied with my purchase but I will say i may ultimately buy the remote as reaching into my rack has proven to be a bit more annoying that I thought lmao. So much for keeping my desk clear. I would recommend this interface to anyone looking to take their recording studio to the next level, 5 stars.

Title says it all. I've been needing to expand my I/O count so I picked up the Ensemble Thunderbolt. I've used many interfaces in various studios over the years (Antelope, Apogee, Apollo etc) and this thing stands with the best of them. I use UAD plugins (but have no need to track w/them) and I also have a fair amount of analog gear (SSL, Rupert Neve, Dangerous etc). The Ensemble provides flexible routing and great features like tb mic, separate monitor outs, re-amp outs etc. I have my Ensemble light-piped to a pair of Apogee AD/DA16x converters. It's the heartbeat of my studio. Provides low latency recording and Apogee level conversion.
