This pedal is so nice and goes above and beyond my expectations. It is easy to setup and has really nice functions. I was able to program stuff without reading the book, but I would recommend reading it though. Switches are very nice and silent. Display is easy to navigate and read when on a bright or dark stage. Not overly large so fits just right on my 34" wide pedal board. A must have when incorporating midi switching with analog stomp pedals. Thanks AMS and your reps for helping me pick out this pedal.

I gotta admit I was a little intimidated when I first got the ES-5 , I had this idea in my head that it would be very complicated to start figuring out the functions on this controller. But to my surprise it is very user friendly and should I dare say that anybody can learn how to get going with the ES-5 within the first day of using it. Great product, BOSS never disaapoints.

Needed a switching system because I prefer pedals to all in one effects and Boss provided the answer I needed. It took a bit of reading to fully understand how it works but once that was done I am really happy with this. Thanks Boss and AMS!

I use two Eventide pedals, and 3 different Wampler OD pedals for various OD and Distortion.
The Boss Es-5 was a God sent for me and my working cover band. As the only guitar player and lead vocalist my life on stage has never been more simple.
I wanted to keep my board small and effective as possible.
This pedal works so good the only thing stopping me from the ES-8 was I just didn't want to big of a pedal board on stage. But honestly I wish I could have. The ES-5 works flawlessly and does everything you need. The ES-8 has a few more features. Either one of these will absolutely do the job, NO question! The Midi works great with Eventides!

I like the convenience of multi-fx (HXEffects, GigBoard, etc) but I'm not a big fan of modeled stomp boxes. I wanted something I could create patches with and still use my own pedals. The Boss ES-5 is the perfect solution for me. I run 3 OD, a compressor and MD-500 in the ES-5 loops. I use the MIDI functionality to control a DD-500 and BigSky in my amp's FX loop and PC on the MD-500. The interface is intuitive and I was creating patches in no time which is saying a lot - I'm old. I love how easy it is to set up PC and CC messages in the patches and assign everything in the order I want. As with everything Boss/Roland, quality is top notch and appears to be built very solid. It fits perfectly on my Rockboard 4.2. It does take a bit of time to wire up, and make sure you have the right size/end cables ready to fit on your board. I used Blackbird Solderless and there have been no issues with noise or "tone suck" of any kind. If you're tired of tap dancing, get this board. You won't regret it.

I really like the Boss ES-5.
There are a lot of options including the ability to change the order of your effects chain. It has a pretty small footprint on the pedalboard for an effects switching system.
It is pretty easy to set up and save your effects patches.
The only thing I don't like about it is you will have to dedicate one of the five loops and use 4 Cable Method to use amplifier effects loop.
