Product Rating Product Review This head has "Clean", "Lead", "Crunch", "Brown" (meaning Van Halen like), channels, giving you great tonal flexibility, and also an "Acoustic" channel, letting you plug an acoustic-electric guitar straight in. There is also a "boost" knob, giving you the effect of a Tube Screamer (or similar overdrive) or a modified amp. Add to that the on board effects made by BOSS, that can be used on any channel. What makes it even more versatile, is there are built-in speakers in the head itself, making this perfect for practice/lessons. This is a well thought out amp and has great sound and features in this price range. I bought it for my studio and haven't been disappointed yet.

Product Review I suppose that if you could ask 100 Katana owners what they thought of this guitar head; the reviews would be split down the middle. That's not where you want to be with your guitar head. That is where i found myself with this amp. Nothing profound with the quality of sound found in this amp. If you want a completely overdriven sound or a hissing distortion, well.. maybe. I sold mine off and i don't miss it. Go with the Marshall.

Product Review Going thru Bosses website, it’s a bit confusing, but patience will get you where you want to be. A friend told me about AMS, I feel like I’ve been living in a cave for years. Just like that 1 company with 2 day shipping, I got my goods when promised and at a killer price. I found a new equipment home.

Product Review Great package for practice at home or gigging. The 5w option is great for power head. Onboard effects are what to expect from Boss. Recommend the foot controller for easier transitions. All in all a fun and versatile head.

Amazing Tube Like Tone, Easy to Dial In !!!

Product Review I've been a guitar player, and tube amp user for fifty years. I've owned them all Fender, Ampeg, Marshall, VOX, I've tried some solid state amps along the way also, but always felt the tone brittle and the response to playing weak! Then a week ago (after much study) I purchased the Katana 100 head and I can't turn it off. I just started playing again after a five year lay off. I dusted off my guitar collection, pulled out an old Bandmaster 2x12 cabinet loaded with Vintage 30s plugged in the Katana head and dialed up some great sounds in an instant! Very good tone (many flavors) very good effects, and so responsive to your pick attack ! I'm not a young guy and I was afraid of the digital nature of adjusting the amp, but no problems, very intuitive, even for an old guy. I also purchased the GA-FC foot controller, and in my opinion, it brings out the full abilities of the amp. You can call up a patch, then switch on/off preloaded effects just like a stomp box, very easy! Hooking up a laptop and loading Boss Tone Studio opens up the whole range of tones/effects and is easy to navigate, even for a non techie. Over all I'm very satisfied with my purchase and would challenge any tube amp user to try a Katana out. It's not exactly a tube amp but it's so close most people couldn't tell the difference recorded (just like other reviews say). Low maintenance is another benefit, I've spent so much on new tubes and repairs over the years! AMS is great to deal with, and their play now pay later plan is unbelievable! Get a Katana today you won't be disappointed!

Product Review For years I have been a tube amp snob. Tried everything new that came out that was solid state based. Never found a substitute for my tube amps until now. This amp has finally given me the ability to play live and have the sounds, touch and dynamics I expect from an amp. Finally a solid state amp comes with a proper foot switch also. Thank you Boss and AMS for your payment programs and great pricing that have allowed me to buy gear I wouldn't otherwise have had the ability to get when I needed it.

Product Review This thing is awesome! First off I really like that it has a small speaker for practicing or you could even mic it up as an emergency option if you didn’t have a speaker cabinet! The ability to switch between a half, 50 or 100 watts is a really awesome feature also! Right out of the box you have 4 channels and 15 effects you can switch around manually from the knobs on the head. There’s also the endless effects possibilities once you hook a computer up to it. Speaker cabinet modulation and the works. I can’t ebwn list all the goodies it has. I am super impressed not only with the amp but the price! All it took was playing on one at a friends for a couple minutes and I needed one! My daughter is learning guitar and will definitely be buying another one! Great product!

Product Review I'm using my Katana head with Marshall speaker cabinet 1936. Power control switch is a very nice feature. Great tone overall. Boss GAFC foot controller is a must. Once you begin experimenting with the Boss Tone Studio app...your going to be hooked.

Product Review This head has excellent tone. The global EQ as well as the patch eq allows for fine adjustment of your tone. The effects are absolutely boss quality. If I had to complain about anything, boss lost their mind by only providing the head with one speaker output. You must buy their artist Edition to get multiple parallel speaker outputs. How could boss leave the head model with only one speaker output? Stupid. Awesome tone though. Awesome effects. I own a boss GT Pro rackmount from the 2000s. The GT Pro has way more adjustability than the katana. But the katana is a very close second. The lack of the additional speaker outputs for the head cost Boss 1 star in my opinion. Still excellent. The footswitch is a must. Is it allows you complete integration of the effects and adjustments. Well done boss. AMS is awesome. I get all my gear through AMS payment plans. AMS rocks and is the best for getting your gear. Thank you AMS. Thank you boss.

Product Review I bought this to use as a practice amp, but it's my main gigging amp now. It's light, sounds great, and has a ton of power. The best part is it has great tone. I can dial in blackface tones, voxy chimes and ripping solos. All at 19 lbs. I couldn't be happier.

Product Review As an owner of an original Roland Blues Cube 60 and a Cube 40xl I've come to know what to expect from BOSS/Roland in the way of performance and dependability and the Katana won't let anyone down. Once again they set out to offer a great sounding efficient amp for recording and live gigs and accomplished it in spades. It's powerful, loud, and very versatile. I've barely gotten beyond the clean channel which sounds great both alone and as a pedal platform. There are four more stock settings to explore plus those options in the Tone Studio and a users group has uncovered even more "Sneaky Amp" options buried even deeper and developed a "floorboard" to access those as well. I do play tube amps as well and I think anyone looking for a front line SS gigging amp or even a convenient backup to their main rig would be hard pressed to find a better value than the 100w head or either of the 100w combos. This is one amp that is exactly what it claims to be. I'm very pleased with it.

Product Review I took a chance on this after reading reviews online and YT. I will start by saying never liked modeling or solid state and use tube amps exclusively for over 30 years. But after reading the glowing reviews I wanted to try it out anyway. Honestly, I expected to be ok but nothing amzing, just like other digital amps out there. Well, I'll be darned. This amp sounds as good, it's as loud and punches as hard as my 100w tube Marshall head. First time I can say this about a digital amp. I've tried many of them in the past and never really liked them but this is at a different level completely. The effects are great too and make life a lot easier, not having to carry a pedalboard etc... hard to believe a $350 digital amp sounds this good, but it does. One of my best purchases ever. Highly recommended.

Product Review Only had this for a couple of days. Wasn't too sure how I felt of this small head until I hooked it up to my 4x12 cab and plugged in my guitar. It has a nice smooth reverb and plenty of options on the effects. A nice crunch distortion for a good dirty sound, a lead distortion for a nice rock sound and brown distortion for your heavier music. The 5" internal speaker can be used when the cab is not plugged in. Its not much but good to use as a practice amp by itself, which is a big plus. The power settings is a nice feature. It can be switched from a 0.5w, 50w and 100w. 50w in my opinion is loud enough. At 100w I couldn't see the volume going past halfway. It is super loud. A big bang in a small package. I'm glad I bought this Katana head. Well worth the money!
