Better than ernie ball 5 string sets. I like these for super low tuning my 4 string bass. We play in Drop A and these always sound great and last a good amount of time.

... the problem is that I have a history with these strings and AMPEG products. I hate Ampeg amplifiers. It seems they were the only ones in town available when I was growing up though. Ampeg Amps; Ernie Ball stuff and D'Addario. It's all the local music stores carried in the 70's. The stores didn't smell good.
So it boils down to a psychological thing I think that I associate these products I mentioned and these strings, you see where I'm going. The fact that D'Addario are still in business is a testament to there staying power and I learned quite a bit about the company and their use of technology in developing better products by reading the package the strings came in. Very informative. I'm still learning about strings, so D'Addario deserves at least 4 maybe 5. I'm getting more sophisticated in my appreciation of higher end gear, but education is key in making buying decisions, so... Better than Ernie Ball strings, put it that way.
