Product Review This is my 1st EAB. The build quality is much better than I expected. I can finally practice whenever, where ever. My only regret is that a 5 string was not available at the time.

Product Review Great value and good backyard or campfire bass. Its inexpensive enough that taking it out of the house into the woods won't make you panic about the setup. But the Playmate sounds unusually loud so you can theoretically keep up with other acoustic instruments. Don't expect low action and light touch, it takes work to play a cheap AB with any kind of volume and no fret buzz.

Product Review I bought this bass.. I'm absolutely in love with it, it sounds absolutely fantastic and I don't think I could have found a better bass for the money. I've actually purchased other basses for far more than this that didn't sound half as good.

Product Review My overall opinion of this acoustic/electric bass is that it is a tremendous value worth every penny I spent on it. I played a few other more expensive e/a style basses in music store's before making my purchase. They had smaller voices and I was certain they wouldn't be able to keep up with acoustic guitars. The Quality of this instrument at this price point is part of what makes it such a value. The body is large (huge in fact) and well voiced, the neck is straight and adjustable with the included truss rod. The electronics on the unit i received are in good working order. Just a simple passive setup with volume and tone control. The features of the Dean EAB were exactly as expected after all the research I did. There are a couple of things I may change at a later date like the saddle and nut which are perfectly functional out of the box. My favorite Feature of this Dean Bass is the playability combined with it's large acoustic voice. An instant classic with me. I find myself picking it up all the time. I'll get to the finish and the strings later. Overall This Bass has a Great feel the neck is very easy to play. The body is very large and can be uncomfortable depending on your posture, size etc. That big body and that full big voice easily make up for all that. Out of the box my EAB came with the factory Round wound steel strings. They sounded good but they were far to bright and snappy add to that extra noise these kind of strings cause on an instrument of this style and they were only on there a day. After replacing them with a fresh set of Roto-Sound black nylon standard gauge long scale strings this bass really came alive. Warm Smooth tones Yup! Dark and Smooth yup! Still has plenty of bright and snappy too!! I worried these strings would effect the volume but the voice stayed as strong as ever. I'd recommend everyone to try this so the sound of your callouses moving along the rounds wounds won't drive you insane. That sound is fine on a guitar. Not so on a Bass. All in All I love the tone of this instrument with either string choice. ((I did have to file the nut just enough to seat the Large Roto-sound Strings properly)) The Overall finish of My Dean EAB is good. There is a small imperfection in the rosette around the sound hole and a second small imperfection in the black lines of the binding near the top face of the body. Hardly a deal breaker again considering the price point. I did have to buff out the back of the neck as there were some rough spots in the finish probably from dust. A brillo pad and a buffing rag took care of that. Neck is now smooth as can bee. Again considering the cost of this bass I feel got even more than I could have hoped for. At this price simply getting an instrument that stays in tune should be miraculous. This Bass delivers much more than that. After buffing out the neck and replacing the strings this bass plays Great!! Honestly it played nice right out of the box. I highly recommend this to anyone on a budget or for a knock around or front porch or campfire instrument.

Product Review I received this as a gift on 12-26-13. It has a flawless finish. The action was perfect just like I like it. Very good quality. My only complaint is the electronics are passive & they don't work at all. It has great workmanship, good finish & I feel like it would be good for any kind of music. Quality wise, it's great. What I really like is the way the neck feels & the action is just right. Yes, they are very handy IF THEY WORKED!! The acoustic tone is very good. But I cannot comment on the electric sound since the electronics don't work. It has a satin finish which I did not think I'd like, but the finish is clean & flawless. If you use some good guitar polish on it, it really brings out the satin finish. Tho this was a gift, I looked it up & the price range is something any musician can afford. I have not seen any other with this quality anywhere close to this price. Everyone likes different action. This one was quite good, but I tightened the truss rod about 3/4 of a turn & WOW, absolutely perfect.

Product Review The Dean EAB Acoustic Electric Bass has the potential to be a great product, but sadly lacks features that would make it usable in a stage performance or group acoustic performance environment. Quality seems inconsistent. The basic instrument appears to be generally made well but the passive electronics are inadequate. The unit I received had a hairline stress crack in the finish around the neck joint at the heel (could be a problem down the road but no structural damage was apparent). The passive electronics were disappointing, even when plugged into my most powerful bass amp. An under-saddle pickup really needs a preamp. There was no second strap pin - only one at the tail end of the body. I can't imagine where the other end of a strap would be attached without another pin. The passive electronic controls are easily accessible. The body is very big, as one might expect, and may be uncomfortable for some people to play while seated. Unplugged, the bass sounds like an acoustic guitar. It's not very loud at the lower frequencies when playing with my fingers. Unless playing alone (or maybe with a pick), you'll need an amp to keep up with other instruments - even in an all-acoustic setting. The finish was the only impressive part of the instrument. I ordered the gloss black model and the finish was perfect. My expectation was as low as the price - but sometime you'll get a "good one" that surprises you. That's what I was hoping for. I ultimately repaired the stress crack in the finish, replaced the electronics, and added a second strap pin. After all was said and done I spent 50% more. I could have gotten another brand with active electronics for the same price. The action was high, otherwise the round-wound strings will create a lot of fret buzz. I adjusted the neck (with tool provided) to improve the action a little. Some may try switching out the strings for flat-wounds to get the strings a little lower without buzz, but that may reduce the bright acoustic tone.

I bought mine two years ago and it's still in fine condition. Well made and still going strong. At this price I couldn't think of anything I would add. It looks and feels like a much more expensive instrument. Great tone for recording. (I use good mics) Your general opinion of this product. I could not be happier. As a guitarist who wants to add bass to my recordings, I don't think there is a better deal out there. I'm still amazed that the p[rice is so low. Action a little hight but I'm a guitar player not a bass player.

Although there are better acoustic bass guitars, this has very good quality. As a primarily acoustic musician, I very much enjoy the look, feel and sound of the instrument. The bass has a very good acoustic volume and stands out with other acoustic instruments. The instrument is very light and manageable. The instrument has a very and subtle tone, which stands out even when played smoothly. I bought a "blemished" item, but the tiny place on the back was hardly noticeable. I thought the stain was great, otherwise. As I read in another review, the action needed to be raised a bit out of the box. There was a good bit of buzzing on the lower strings, but after adjustment has been just fine.

Pleasantly Surprised!!!

I dropped a few hints about this bass for a Christmas present to my wife. I've always wanted an acoustic bass and this was almost to good of a deal to pass up, but I had low expectations. I was pleasantly surprise when I took it out of the box. Mine was setup very well. It has a very thin & comfortable neck(I do tweak the neck tension occassionally when the seasons change). The strings weren't great so I put on some GHS bronze bass strings. The unplugged tone and amplitude are great. It's louder than several higher priced acoustic basses that I've tried in stores. The weakest asspect is the output from the electronics. You have to really crank it up to get anything out of it. I have Lexicon Alpha interface that barely picks it up. I general pre-amp it through my amp and then to the interface. Over all, it was a great value! Over all value. (bang for the buck) Great unplugged tone. Weak on electronic output. Great neck action out of the box. I do tweak the neck occassionally, usually at the change of the seasons... I did change the strings to GHS bronze acoustic bass strings.... Fine for the money I read another review about the terrible setup. I guess I was lucky. My was great...

This guitar was not set up and made a lot of fret buzz on every singlr string Your general opinion of this product. Buyer beware You could not play the guitar because of the terrible set up. I was also very upset to find out that one of the guitar strings actually had rust on it Tone is going to be bad when you send out a guitar that has rust on one of its strings!! Terrible. Clearly there was no quality control over general guitar set up as the neck / action was terrible and there was terrible fret buzz. In addition, one string actually had rust on it. I was very disappointed when I called AMS and was told by customer service that AMS does not inspect any of their guitars prior to shipment to ensure they are factory sealed. I made a recommendation to the customer service rep that they start inspecting their guitars for playability and defects prior to shipment. I guess I have been lucky in the past as I have purchased three other guitars from AMS which were in great shape.

Great For Songwriting, Demos, Jamming, Etc.

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
As an acoustic bass, it's surprisingly well-made. The electronics are nothing to write home about, but for $150, I wasn't expecting much. The neck is straight and it plays better than I might have expected for the price. The finish has a few very minor flaws, but overall, I'm very pleased.

FEATURES:
Features? If you call a volume and tone slider features, then okay. Again - I wasn't expecting too much in the electronics and I was neither disappointed or surprised. The tuners seem decent and it stays in tune. You really can't ask for more at the price.

EASE OF USE:
Plays well. It's probably a little big for some smaller players. I definitely wouldn't get this bass for a child looking to learn how to play.

VALUE:
It's a great value to dip your foot into the water of an acoustic bass. I wouldn't want to count on it as a touring instrument, but for home projects and acoustic jamming or songwriting, it's a steal

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
Great quality, would never have expected so much from an acoustic bass under $200.

FEATURES:
Not much to speak of, just a volume and tone control but again for the money shouldn't expect much more.

EASE OF USE:
The body is a bit on the larger side which, depending on how you play can be a bit cumbersome compared to some of the other acoustic basses out there.

VALUE:
Excellent value, can't beat what you get for the price

SOUND:
Nice sound, projection is above average, plugged in sounds very acceptable for what you're working with

The Perfect Start to Learning How to Play Without

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
Everything is pretty solid, better than I expected. Not much in terms of the finish, still appealing to the eye. Electronics seem alright. I expect it to last awhile. I was really impressed with the sound. Had it 8 months and it still works great and sounds as good as the day I got it.

FEATURES:
It's an acoustic/electric and it's a $150. There really isn't much to the electronics but you shouldn't really buy this if your looking for something to play through an amp. It does sound good through an amp though.

EASE OF USE:
Electronics are easy only 2 settings, tone and volume. An excellent beginner's bass.

VALUE:
I was really surprised with the sound quality that comes with this thing. I'm a beginner and I bought this this to more or less play with. An awesome way to start playing the bass without having to get an amp or anthing else. Sounds good either way. Well worth the money.

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
I really think that this bass is well worth the 150. There really is quite a bit of attention to detail. Its really nice unplugged or plugged in.

FEATURES:
There weren't very many features on the bass guitar, but that can be expected for this low a price. I would like to have a more advanced sound control for when I plug it in. It only has a volume and tone control, but that is also easily replaceable. Even if you decide to do this, you could really still save money.

EASE OF USE:
Well, all you gotta do is learn how to play and its not very difficult to use!! But really, what I don't like is the oversized body. It's true that all acoustic basses have large bodis, but this one really is big, and its not very comfortable to play for a long time.

VALUE:
For this price, 50% off, this is really an amazing deal. I don't think you can get a better deal. keep in mind its really a beginners bass, and its for s

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
The quality of workmanship and attention to detail is unbelieveable for the price. Fret ends were trimmed and deburred, nut was properly cut, really a beautifully made instrument. The satin finish is really nice.

FEATURES:
Nothing fancy on the features--the passive electronics consist of a piezo pickup with one tone control and a volume control.

EASE OF USE:
A very nice, playable instrument. The action is great right out of the box. The strings have a course feel and I'll probably replace them with some Dean Markley's or something. I love the neck on this bass. I pulled it out, tuned it up and played for two hours straight the day it arrived.

VALUE:
It is well worth the price. I'd have payed twice as much for this bass.

SOUND:
The sound is good, a little muted, both plugged and unplugged, but it sounds really good with the rest of the band. It really sounds great for slap bass. I tried a Mart

Product Rating

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
I've only had it a short while, but from what I've played on it, it seems to be well made and good quality for the price.

FEATURES:
There really aren't that many features on this guitar. I've heard many say that they would like to see more EQ.

EASE OF USE:
I find it to be one of the most playable bass guitars I've ever played on. For the style that I primarily play, I prefer the frets closer together than on most bass' and this one offers that.

VALUE:
For $150, this is a very good guitar. I'm shocked that this bass isn't $200-300 more expensive.

SOUND:
I really like the sound put forth by this bass. It has a very nice tonal quality.
