The satin black will turn heads with its looks and melt your soul with its tones. Out of the box the two rack Tom’s and snare barely needed tuning. Kick came with baffling, take it or leave it. For the price, it’s a life long set. So ecstatic to play/hear/record with this set it’s hard to put into words. DW knocks it out of the park again. AMS had it to my house next day; and it was a Sunday!

My ears weren’t ready for how good this kit sounds. Not to mention it looks killer. I don’t think you can get a better sounding,looking, tuning kit for this price point. Even with the stock heads the kit sounds really good. The drums are super easy to tune.

I have always dreamed of one day owning a DW kit. AMS helped my dream become a reality. Their website made it easy too purchase and finance my dream set.
After much research, I have decided that the design series was the right fit for me. It is perfect for my budget, a great quality to record with and play gigs. I also looked at the finishes that were offered on this kit; I have to admit, they got my personal preference spot on. The Black Satin finish looked cool on the site, but after opening the factory sealed boxes I received from AMS, my mind was blown away with the beautiful color. I felt the same wonderment and excitement normally associated with the suspense/anticipation of opening gifts Christmas morning.
Finally, upon setting them up and tuning, I was extremely satisfied with the sound this kit offers. I will definitely be using this kit to record our next album for sure! In addition, this kit has that professional stage presence that all DW kits have. Hands down my favorite purchase in the last 30 years of my musical career. I highly recommend this kit for you drummers that feel like it's time for an upgrade or even just a quality kit to have along with your others. 100%

This is my 2nd Design series 5pc DW shell pack purchase with AMS. I had the white satin 5pc shell pack for 5 years before I purchased the black satin 5pc. In my honest opinion, these drum shells are fantastic. I've played a bunch of High end kits as well as low, I find these the best purchase of drum shells I have ever purchased in 30 years of drumming. You can't beat it for the price and reliability and quality of these drums. The drum mounting hardware is top line, the lower profile lugs on the shells are fantastic and the kick drum legs are solid and built to take a kicking! The only thing negative I have to say is I cant get the crack and tonal quality out of the snare as I would like. I am also going off just playing it with Evans Dry genera coated 2ply/& reverse dot. I'll try out more heads to get it up to my cracking standards with no problems, its a nice snare over all, throw off is solid. Great purchase of drums for the money! Can't go wrong with a deal like this from AMS!

DW is probably the top choice of most of the world’s greatest touring and gigging drummers. This 5 pieces set is awesome and comes with great drumhead already as do all DW sets. Simple to setup and the tone is there immediately. The shells are well built and rings are tough as nails. I’d recommend this to pros and beginners alike. One side note is to be sure to also purchase the tom drums brackets/mounts that attach to your crash and ride simble stands. Make sure your hardware are of good quality and weight to support the weight of the toms.

My 1st DW Kit. Packed really well. Flawless finish. The Toms tuned really easily ( dw method bottom head 3rd below batter pitch), the Floor Tom took some work to get the deep bass from the shell , but when the sweet spot was found it is perfectly balanced with the super deep pitched kick drum. The dw kick mufflers work well. The kick batter is really nice, but doesn’t have a pre cut mic hole. The 10 lug snare is heavy and solid when hit professionally. The magnet throw off is genius. I hit a collector series 12”, then this kit’s and a 12” from the 1000$ model. Of the 3 series they All sounded almost perfectly sonically matched. So for the money , this was my choice for finish , smaller lugs, and the dw sound of modern Drums. It’ was a really good choice.

If you want to get into DW but can’t or don’t want to spend what a Collectors kit costs the Design series is a great kit. It has that great DW look and the maple shells sound increadible. If you’re looking for a high quality upper end kit, spend the extra money and get this fine, affordable kit.

I got my first ever DW Design drum kit just last week (arrived on a Tuesday) took it out the box (incredible packing job DW does! A 5 piece kit in two boxes) and mounted it on my DW stands that I've had for over 10 years, they're that solid. And I kind of tuned them, but couldn't really 'dig into them' for fear the neighbors would call the cops. So I got a decent, tight sound out of the snare, got the kick (using the included pillows) fairly dialed in as well. The toms have a semi-bright attack and the standard Remo heads are good, for now. Used them in front of a packed house on a Friday night on Cannery Row in downtown Monterey and they kicked ass! A friend who has been coming to see our band FOR YEARS, said that we never sounded better.
The drums are made/manufactured in Taiwan. At first I was a bit crestfallen, as we sometimes mistakenly equate off shore manufacturing with poor workmanship. Not this kit. Not by a long shot. This will be one of your best investments as a drummer.

Overall it's an amazing from start to finish. I love the fact that it accompany the cymbals that were being use in the demo. It's rare that you find that. eventhough the set is American maple it still give that punch sound. Which all drummers like myself perfer.
