40 years of faithful, awesome compression

Product Review
This review isn’t about the new model but about the MXR DynaComp Compression pedal that has been my faithful on stage companion for 40 years.
I’ve played around with others just to check them out but absolutely nothing compares to the Dyna Comp. This thing will make your solos smoother and if you need to change mid song to a pretty fingerpicking change, this will bring your volume to a perfect level. I’ve never played without it for 40 years.
It’s not on all of the time or the songs wouldn’t have the high and low nuances needed for sonic impact and sound flat like many of today’s pop songs.
This is a MUST HAVE pedal, trust me.

AMS as usual, was awesome the whole way through! Got this comp for the price and as a recommendation from a friend. So far, I’m digging it! Equals out across the tonal spectrum and adds solid sustain. Only “meh” factor is the noise but it’s a compressor so it’s not shocking. Simple. Basic. Quality. I’m a fan.

It makes it very easy to play through my Peavey 6505+ . That amp will tell on you if you’re not playing perfectly clean but the MXR compressor will smooth everything out and makes your rig very playable

The Dyna Comp is a decent budget compressor. It shines for chik'n pick'n. Does a good job of keeping your punch and volume levels even across the strings. The power adapter jack is in the most ridiculous place if you do not run your comp first in a chain and enjoy a tidy pedalboard.

I have had several friends tell me to buy a Dyna Comp. My rig is very minimalist. But I finally broke down and purchased the Dyna Comp. Love it.
Very well made.

The chassis is built like a tank, switch and knobs feel solid.
I am not using a battery, so the backplate screws are not an issue for me.
Your general opinion of this product.
This is a pedal effect, not meant to replace a full blown compressor.
However, as an effect, it's great. It clamps down on the dynamics,
without killing the attack, and gives you all the sustain you want.
Not a guitar, but the knobs are smooth the the switch solid.
Neutral.
Box looks good!

It is very well made. MXR doesn't cheap out, even though this is a fairly inexpensive piece.
Great. Solid. Tough metal chassis.

Quality. Get it.

Nice, smooth compression and sustain. A little extra gain on the top of your signal, but it's not distorting at all. I like it because I think it adds a bit more harmonic kick tot he signal.
Simple red metal powder coating, but it's very sharp.

Great little compressor for the price!

Built like a tank, solid, well built. If you're not familiar with MXR pedals the battery access requires removing the back plate through four screws. Suggest running off pedal power instead, uses a Boss-style 9v power plug.
I've had it a few weeks. Leave it on most the time. Works like it should.
Your general opinion of this product.
A great little compressor at $55, not so hot if it is the same price as the next level up MXR compressor which features an external attack knob. The Dynacomp features and internal attack trim pot (see above, requires back plate access), which is somewhat of a chore if you need to adjust the compressor. Great for a $55 compressor!
Works great, does not pass any uncompressed signal through so you may get a pop or a click when playing after silence. This is a side effect of compression and not the products fault but could be aleviated by either passing some uncompressed signal (not ideal) or adjusting the attack rate to minimze the pop.
It is a compressor. Will raise the existing noise floor in a system if there is noise already present, but it does not appear to color the tone.
Good solid click on the pedal.

Your general opinion of this product.
QUALITY:
Good quality - should last for years. Metal case and solid footswitch.
FEATURES:
Compressor pedal - straightforward to use. Output for volume and sensitivity for amount of compression.
EASE OF USE:
Only 2 knobs - 1 for the output and the other controls the amount of compression. Doesn't get any easier than that.
VALUE:
Does the job for around $60-70. I have not compared to other pedals, but it seems to the job at a reasonable price.
SOUND:
The compressor evens out your output making the notes or chords ring longer and more evenly. It also makes single notes "pop" a bit more. It squashes the output a bit, so you need to adjust the output to compensate. It does affect your tone a bit, but not in a bad way. Just evens things out, and makes the sound not as bright. I prefer it on the clean channel, makes the sound full and the notes stand out, especially for blues-type music.
