This is THE pedal that I have the most fun with!! EHX has definitely outdone themselves with this guitar synth pedal! 9 different voices with 4 adjustable parameters for each voice gives you almost infinite sound options! My favorite is Number 4 where my guitar sounds like a famous brand of keyboard synthesizer - I can play Keith Emerson's keyboard solo to Lucky Man on my guitar!! Still experimenting with the other sounds but Number 4 is my favorite with Number 8 a very close second. Buy it and have FUN and sound amazing!!

Kraftwerk from a guitar!

Product Review
If you want that 70s/80s synthesizer sound from your guitar, then this is your pedal! With just a few turns of the knobs, you can sound like Kraftwerk in their prime! This is a great sounding pedal! Whether it's a Moog sound you're after or New Wave 80s, this is your pedal.

This pedal takes patience. You have to learn to play it, in essence. It is also pricey! That said, it offers a wealth of timbres that can be further manipulated by pedals that follow it. Some of the parameters for certain settings seem limited in the unit itself, though. For example, though the EHX Mini setting is one of my faves, the range on the down-sweep for the filter on that preset (the “past noon” on control 1) is annoyingly limited and almost immediately goes to a cut or stab sound. But there is much to work with in this pedal and all of the presets sound awesome. It is for way more than copping Duran Duran something. I am not a fan of that 80’s cheese synth thing actually, but I just had to have the textures and possibilities this pedal offers. For some reason, using a synth emulator like this seems to me more authentic than a pedal that emulates old school organ. Not sure why. Anyway, I like the Synth 9. Glad I got it and I have a lot more experimenting to look forward to.

Another cool Electro Harmonic machine

Product Review
This is another very cool Electro Harmonix machine. I play rock, metal, and original music and I like having a wide array of sounds to add to my guitar sound. I have several of their pedals and they are all well made and easy to use. Weather you want to add an organ, strings, synths or even a sitar Electro Harmonix can hook you up. Very cool.

Cool sounds. Fun to use with a split signal and a volume pedal with some effects in front of a 2nd amp.

It tracks well down to C on the A on bass and ok down to A But after that it is lost. it is still worth having on your board but just don't expect it to track like a Future Impact

My keyboardist complains that this has better synth sounds than his Korg. I’m not trying to steal any of his thunder but this adds a lot of new options for coloring our sound.

Love this pedal; also own C9 which is just as good. Tracking is really top-notch. Thought it would be slow, but it keeps up! EHX rarely disappoints and I have 3 of their pedals on my board currently.

I have owned the MEL 9 for some time now and have grown to rely upon it. I finally purchased the SYNTH 9 and WOW what fun to play. Standalone it sounds fantastic; run it through several other pedals/boxes and look-out! This is one pedal you won't regret buying!

Product Review
I have been wanting to put my hands (feet) on one of these for a while. I was excited to get it, but I had to exchange the pedal for a new one after I first got it, as it had some issues (no sound) when switched on until I cycled power on it. It also had terrible response times from the synth engine and some noise. AMS staff was super helpful and made it a very easy and convenient experience. I got a brand new pedal within 3 days, which works much better.
I do like the working pedal. The different synth voices are cool and the tonal controls do give some interesting options, although there are a few that only sound good in the factory recommended settings, but it does the job that I got the pedal for. Also as most synth engine pedals, it does struggle with fast progression (32nds @ 100bpm+) and some notes will just not be audible.
This is why I only give it 4 stars.

Home Run!

Product Review
Once again, EH has a home run. The whole "9" series is setting a new standard for guitar synths.
Not only are the sounds perfect emulations of the synths they represent, but the interaction with the guitar is new and different from a typical GR-55 or similar guitar synth.
These devices behave differently if you're playing chords from playing single notes. So there's a level of surprise that comes into play as you learn it's response.
And the subtle variations that "control 1 & 2" offer give each of the 9 voices individuality.
These things go beyond making sounds to being an inspiration to new compositions...
Rugged and dependable.
All I can say is: "MORE, PLEASE!"
