This was indeed a random purchase but a good one. I did have to rely on a YouTube tutorial for this but after learning it I spent importing audio I extracted from Robocop to make percussive elements like Skinny Puppy and Ministry. Totally worth it especially for the price.

Love this synth, also have the cycles, which is rad too. Nice intro into elektron devices, more affordable and straight forward than some of the more expensive sequencers. Plus there's an app some guy made on iPad which really opens it up

So needing something portable, initially I bought an OP1. But after some time using it, it became very clear just how outdated some of its functions were. So I ended up selling that and got a elektron model cycles. Could not be more happier. I have elektron workload experience already. So this is like a little didgitakt on the go. All functionality is there. Adding samples is a breeze. And you get the world famous elektron sequencer. Overall, best purchase I've made this year. Love this!!!!

I also have a Digitakt and it feels way more like ta cryptic tracker by comparison.
I perform daw less and got the Digi as a polyphonic sequencer brain to upgrade from a beatstep pro (monophonic).
The Model: Samples is a box I can bring to jams and mess with everything and hit pads, make beats on the fly like a regular drum machine. It’s fun! And in retrospect I would have purchased it first and a Digitone instead. The digitone has 4 external midi parts as well as 4 polyphonic digital synth parts. So, even though M:S only has 6 drum tracks, you could augment with the Digitone synth drums, but really you may not miss the extra 2 tracks of a Digitakt or more you’d get on a traditional drum machine because it’s such an instantly gratifying instrument to play on.

I have NI ultimate and a DAW and always felt it was more like programming a computer rather than a creative endeavor making music that way, I knew about groove boxes and samplers but did not think they were for me, boy was I wrong. This one is my first one so I can not give you any A/B comparison, but after watching a few videos online before I purchased this, I thought "Yeah I think I could do that" and was making beats and tracks within the first 3min of using it, its quick and intuitive, but the manual is lacking in comprehension and makes too may assumptions for a beginner to understand. I wish they made more beginner how to videos and maybe some that follow the manual, the ones I did find online were helpful but not thorough enough to fully understand it. Support was slow to respond, and was helpful, but kept referring to the manual that just did not have enough detail. Overall I like it!

This is a very fun and easy to use sampler! Comes loaded with some pretty useful sounds so it’s a breeze to get started. It’s very light so perfect to just play around with all the functions from the comfort of your couch. AMS had it shipped out before I could blink, and overall I am very happy with it. If you want a pro-grade top notch sampler I would obviously go with something else, but if you just want a quick and easy sketch pad this thing is great!

PROS-
The controls are intuitive and encourage you to experiment.
Retrigger and "chance" features work beautifully.
Front panel has the right parameters for good sound modulation.
Pads are easy to work with, quality, well thought out layout.
Price is right for sure.
CONS-
It's not portable! I just assumed it was, the only synth/sampler without a battery pack. They're working on a solution, but who knows when that's coming. Deal breaker.
Headphone jack volume isnt great. Even after configuring it in the menu. It's a whisper, even with earbuds.
Software to load samples is hit and miss, at least for PC. Very quirky.
Good presets, but only 16. The electribe 2 synth has like 200.

I originally bought a drumbrute impact but wasn't satisfied with it so I exchanged it for this beauty right here. Amazing piece of musical equipment. Very happy with the Model Samples. I have to applaud AMS for their returns/ exchange. Hassle free and they even shipped out the Model Samples before they received my drumbrute. That is amazing customer service right there and that is why I love AMS

This little box may look underwhelming but, let me tell you it’s like a transformer, more then meets the eye. The first thing you think when you look at them online is (this thing looks kinda cheap, looks very light) then when you actually get one you are surprised to find it has a good weight. Also very simple to upload your own sounds. The sequencer is very fun and simple to understand, and the FX are very good, Plus you can hook it up to a external battery and make music on the go. Super fun little box, and with the AMS payment plan it’s a totally worth it. Get one!!!!!!

First, what I dislike--
1. No attack parameter? A lot of us want ambient-type sounds in our step-sequences. How about an attack param with a firmware update?
2. Fonts should be WAY smaller on the screen, especially when picking kits and samples. The font is WAY too big. Firmware update?
Elektron makes awesomely fun gear. This might be their best piece of gear. 1gb total sample storage... and 64mb per Project (96 patterns, each which can have their own soundset)... that's over 10 minutes of mono samples per Project. You can store a LOT. Tons of fun.
The reverb is one of my favorite reverbs on any unit. It just sounds so crisp and perfect. Is it my Strymon Big Sky? No. But for built-in reverb, I really, really love it and think it's one of the best in any hardware device.
I love how you can power this via 9v to USB... you can use battery banks and just sit in a cafe and go to town making stuff for many hours. Look up exactly what you need, for battery use. Elektron plans on making their own thing (with the side port) but so far, no news of that. But you can get third-party cables and adapters to make it work.
I really hope they do some firmware updates and add some great functionality. It's a cool box but it could be WAY cooler with a tiny amount of tweaking.
My first and only Elektron gear, but very happy.
If you're creative, and have samples of classic drum machines, this box can be all of those drum machines in one. TR-707, TR-505, LinnDrum, etc. etc. etc. Although only 6 tracks... think Kick, Snare, Clap, Rimshot, CHH and OHH for each drum machine, or any variation of your favorite sounds. You can literally be every drum machine in one hardware box, with a little creativity. And, you have reverb/delay/filter cutoff and LFO... AND Sample Lock (per step). lots and lots of fun.

Really like this drum machine/groove box sounds great through my M Audio speakers and was easy to set-up and a lot of the functions are very visual. Also works really well for drum patterns that do not use usual timing. Does not take up loads of space also which is a good feature also.
