It is indeed a $200 open back banjo.

Product Rating Product Review My reviews are based on a few factors. The biggest factor is instrument to price ratio. For $200 this banjo is exactly that. Nothing fancy, no frills. A very playable, good sounding banjo. It took a while to set up, the tuner on the high G isn’t the best. After tuning the head and a proper set up, it plays great. The tone is there, the action is wonderful. Could it be louder and have nicer hardware? Sure, but it also wouldn’t cost $200.

Product Review For the money you can’t go wrong. Bridge was easily put into place, took a few times for the strings to hold tune, but that’s normal. Love it!

Product Review This original design stands the test of time. Great value for the money. No bells and whistles, just well designed instrument for performance. Bought this for my daughter. She has always wanted a banjo, and she loves it. We both play multi-instruments and we are impressed.

Product Review My daughter was over the moon Happy this Christmas morn. She loves her banjo. It is absolutely beautiful. The sound is clear. The musicians in the family were blown away at what a nice instrument it was for the price. I am thrilled with this purchase and I never would have been able to make her day without your payment plan. Next year, electric guitar!

Product Review This is a beautiful product with great action. I didn't realize that you needed to insert the bridge due to shipping considerations but it was easy to set up and tune. I also, learned that the bridge needs to set the same distance from the 12 feet as the distance between the but and the 12th fret who knew?

Product Review I had been playing the Epiphone MB-200 Resonator banjo for the past 2 years while learning bluegrass style. It has been an outstanding banjo, so I knew I would purchase this Epiphone MB-100 open back banjo to begin learning Clawhammer style. Make sure to also buy (or have on hand) a pack of banjo strings. The strings the factory puts on are no good (but that's the case with most inexpensive stringed instruments you buy). One of the factory strings on mine broke while I was installing the bridge. After installing new strings, I've been playing it for a week now and it sounds wonderful! It's lightweight, and (for such an inexpensive banjo) the wood grain and drum head appear to be like the more expensive models (sometimes inexpensive banjos have blemishes on the wood or the banjo head will have dark spots from being a lesser quality head). I'm incredibly happy with this MB-100 banjo!
