Product Review
I can't give a working $200 guitar a bad review, but I can't really give this guitar a good review, either.
For starters, the tuners are extremely sub-par. I struggle to keep it in tune and it doesn't stay in tune either. Normally, I like to customize my low-end guitars anyway, but thanks to epiphone's weird offset screw pattern, this severely limits your options unless you want to drill and fill holes in the headstock.
Epiphone couldn't even spring for the rosewood fingerboard and so you have a mahogany fingerboard. Out of the box, it's extremely thirsty and you'll need to oil it over and over again. Frets are obscenely large and need to be polished, of course.
I dropped the tuning down half of a step and now I have fret buzzing. I guess I'll need to either level the frets or adjust the action or truss rod, right out of the box. Standard E tuning seems ok, though.
The pickups are of course, sub-par. I was thinking about dropping some DiMarzios in it, but by then I would have about $400 into this guitar and for that price, I could've bought a PRS SE.
If you buy this just as a piece to sit in your room and make it look like you play guitar, it's a fabulous choice. It is a beautiful guitar and I like the way SGs look. But if you're going to play it, you'll either outgrow it very fast or you'll be dissatisfied. My recommendation is to save your money and buy something in the $400-$500 range because Epiphone isn't really the Gibson-killers they used to be when they were made in Japan or even Indonesia.

Sure it's a entry level, Beginner styled Guitar. It has a bolt on neck, so if you decide to be Pete Townshend and smash it up, you can always replace the neck. But on a serious note. This a great guitar for the Money. The Quality is nice for the money. I've read the Negative reviews. I disagree with them. If you're a Gibson "Purist" of course you're gonna pick it apart. If you're a weekend Band guy like I am. Backyard and Garage Jam sessions. It's a GREAT Guitar. Keep in mind also that it's a really nice inexpensive platform for "Modding" if that's your thing. I play my Gibsons, Fenders and Kramers through a Fender 212 Frontman with a KORG Processor. I use D'Adario 10/46 strings. This a great guitar and plays as well as any other guitar that I own. It plays well with "House Sound" too. Just ignore the negativity. Buy it. Enjoy it. And Rock On.

Product Review
I’m going to delve into some slide guitar playing , so I thought I’d get a cheap beater guitar that I could set up for that.
I expected this guitar to arrive with very high action & that’s what I wanted. The strings were very loose when it arrived , but much to my surprise , the action was very low. After tuning it up , I found the intonation was off on most of the strings . You will definitely need to set this guitar up. But that’s what I would expect for a guitar at this price point.
Once you set it up , you may be pleasantly surprised.
The tuners aren’t great , but functional & the pick ups aren’t the greatest either . So , if you’re into modding , this is a perfect guitar to do it on. This would also be a great first guitar for someone.
The fret work on mine was not that bad at all … again , I was a little surprised. You will also have to condition the fretboard as it’s dry as a bone.
All in all , I’m pretty happy with this purchase.

A lot of bang for the buck with this SG Special! No problems right out of the box! Fast neck, warm tone, lots of Mojo workin’ from Blues, Classic Rock to Country! It’s all right here! Even if you’re a “purist” and grow ill at the thought of playing a bolt-on neck guitar, skip
To the next page! This axe is a winner! I love it, use it, but won’t abuse it like Pete did! Buy one today!

Great guitar for being under $200. Sounds very good, and I love the feel of the neck. The bridge and tuning machines leave a little to be desired in terms of intonation and stability for fine tuning (comes out in the wash in a live situation), but those are easy fixes. I bought this guitar specifically for swapping out pickups, so some minor hardware upgrades are no big deal. If this is being bought for or by a beginner, take it to a shop for a setup. If you take it for what it is, this is a great deal.

The frets are all dressed with no sharp edges. There are no dead notes at all. The string height fits my playing. Toss the factory strings. The factory didn't even bother to tune it anyway. I bought this as a cheap 2nd to gig with. After an hour of playing, it's still in tune and intonation is good enough for the girls I go with. The balance is good too, if you have to let it go to double on keyboards. It's not neck heavy. Great deal on this one.

It may not have the pick-ups you prefer, or the trapezoid mother of pearl inlays, but it is a beautiful guitar and plays wonderfully. Five stars!

Absolutely well worth the cost. It's crafted well and sounds great. It plays so nice for a low end guitar. Right out of the box the action and intonation were great (after tuning it of course) I haven't found the need to mess with the action but someday soon I will. It looks wonderful. But if you're wondering if the guitar is any good because of the low price, that's the lst thing you should worry about. I several mid level guitars, from $600 - $900 but I just love getting a cheap guitar to have sitting by the couch and this one is perfect! Stays in tune good to. Sounds crunchy and yummy!

It’s certainly not a ‘GIBBY’ and yes it’s a low end ‘EPI’, but I love this guitar. I bought this as a Knock-around guitar and for a project guitar. I took it outta the box and tuned it and plugged it in to my Marshall and was so thrilled at the way it sounded. I’m very happy with this guitar. I plan on upgrading the tuners and the pups, but I’m being100% honest when I say this is a great guitar, especially as a starter guitar. Thanks to AMS as always for easy purchase and quick delivery. I have 18 guitars and I can't stop playing this one. The intonation was great as well as action. I switched to an 11 gauge and I haven't had to adjust anything. Super pleased. Thank you AMS

I'm a veteran player of 20 years and have owned many guitars during that time. I picked this guitar up to see how a cheaper guitar would fare when customized / upgraded. I removed the stock pickups and replaced. them with an EMG 57/66TW set and upgraded the nut to a bone nut. This thing rips now, especially for a $170 guitar with $120 in upgrades. I highly recommend this guitar to any beginners or anyone looking for a quality guitar they can upgrade to use as a backup.

As I've stated above! The tonal quality and character of this instrument are OVER THE TOP! The NECK was of BURLED MAHOGANY, which is HIGHLY FIGURED and QUARTER SAWN! That simply BLEW ME AWAY! The Burst looks more like a FLAME JOB from some CA Artist! There appears to be some Alien Dragon Claw Marks from the Giant Hand of the Beast which stroked it! The Sound? I don't know what I got here but I've NEVER heard anything like it! It's somewhere between a horn and a synthesizer in tone. The SUSTAIN is GREAT! The Touch Sensitivity is UNEXPECTEDLY GREAT! When you get it, you are expected to do some "finishing touches" to make it your own. That is expected. Otherwise, not much lacking from a serious custom shop build here! I got the LP also and about it I can say all of the same except it has what an LP has and what LP lovers love at an AMAZING PRICE with ASTOUNDINGLY PROFESSIONAL SOUND!

Product Review
Absolutely a solid value guitar. It is surprisingly well built. You have to compare apples to apples. Of course you will be disappointed if you compare this with a $1300 guitar, but it is exceptional for the price point. It stays in tune well after the strings are stretched and broke in. As with all new value guitars I would recommend changing to a set of quality strings ASAP, but the supplied ones are not bad.
Neck plays very nice, fretwork is smooth and my sample has no sharp fret edges. Pick ups are completely adequate. Good response, through the range, and can be dialed in to suit your tastes. Selector switch is solid as a rock, very positive, which I like. Bridge is quite sturdy, no surprises and easy to adjust.
Some people may not like the satin finish of the guitar, definitely not glossy. For me personally, I think it is a nice change of pace and gives a unique character to the guitar.
At the risk of sounding like a commercial, which it is not, I can’t find any major problems at all. Again, is it a $1300 SG? No, but for the money it can’t be beat. If you’re on the fence about it, go for it. It’s a great guitar. I am primarily a strat guy, but love this little Epiphone!

Product Review
Ordered this on a whim after reading the reviews, and I am so glad that I did! Weight is very manageable, the finish is excellent (I got mine in the vintage sunburst and the pictures do NOT do it justice!), neck feels great with no need for any attention to the frets (usually one of the main things you’ll find on a cheap guitar), and I like that the top strap button is actually on the neck plate. Often with the cheap guitars, I immediately start looking for good deals on replacement pickups...not with this one! These pickups sound great, and I don’t feel a need to replace them. My only complaint is that the toggle switch doesn’t feel all that solid, which leads me to believe it’ll need fixed at some point in the future. And the payment plan makes it so much easier on the wallet (not that the $203 total for shipping, taxes, etc. is horribly hard on the wallet). You can very easily pay twice as much for only half of the guitar that this is. You knocked this one out of the park, Epiphone

For a bolt on neck SG epiphone I like the lightweight and punchy pickups. Might be less than the neckthrough model but it plays great although it was not in intonation, slightly sharp on the G E A and the frettboard is fairly flat, more than my last Dot 335. I have the cherry sunburst and love the color and finish

Over all good sound. Good construction. It came fully set up from AMS My only concern were the tuners. they hold tune but they feel wonky and you will spend a good deal of time turning the key with no effect then suddenly you are way past the plsace you want to be.
