Product Rating Product Review When my Les Paul Special ii came in, I noticed the neck had a small crack by the head stock. Looked like Fed Ex had been pretty rough. I called AMS customer support the same night and I had it back in the mail the next day, which was Wednesday. And that Saturday before lunch, I had received my replacement. I couldn't be happier. The young lady from customer service was a really big help. AMS has their ducks in a row. I will continue to do business here for the foreseeable future. I expected to have a hard time but I had nothing but a professional experience with getting a replacement guitar. As far as the guitar, it's a budget les paul. As long as you perform a set up you will not have any issues. I can't say enough good about how they turned what was about to be a negative experience into the most positive. In fact, I'm about to order and amp right now.

Product Review I actually got mine used because I wanted tv yellow in basswood which I don't think is sold new any longer. But pickups are the same. I changed out tuners, painted headstock a neon glow in the dark yellow, but kept the tuners. I planned to swap but these sound Very Good, at least in the basswood (which I doubt makes much difference). Fret board on mine very playable. I love it actually. Love it. Tuners are crap. This and the IYV led Paul copy 2 best under $200. Add cost of different tuners though.

Product Review I had a 1/2 ride to college under a music scholarship but went into the Army during Desert Storm. I turned my back on music for decades! I bought this guitar on the say so of great youtubers and reviewers from this site. Les Paul playability with great craftsmanship at a low price point! What could be better? The neck is perfect with no fret-sprout. The fingerboard was a bit dry and once I changed the strings, man was I in for a pound! I am now about to purchase another amp and some D'dario 10-46 and Dunlop picks so I can keep on keeping on. Great looks and solid sound make this the perfect choice for Re-Beginners!

The neck bends

By: Alfred Herman Schrader, Master guitarist      Submitted: 11/20/2023

Product Rating

Product Review A major problem with inexpensive guitars is the necks bend. What this does is, as you tighten a string to tune it, the neck bends creating slack in the other strings causing them to de-tune. As it is impossible to tune the strings on a guitar with a weak neck I suggest save your funds until you can afford a good guitar. Many, MANY, very talented people failed and sadly never got anywhere because they had a weak neck guitar. No one will stay around and listen to music that is not absolutely perfectly in tune and in time. You will save nothing by buying a guitar with a weak neck.

Product Review This is the 2nd Special I've purchased. They are inexpensive work horse's that can't be beat. The high output Humbuckers were designed for one thing. Sustain & Distortion and will sustain a note for days. It's a guitar that was designed for Metal & Hard Rock. The build quality is impressive and the finish is literally flawless. So thanks to AMS and Epiphone I'm the proud owner once again of my 2nd Les Paul Special II.

Product Review I've been playing for 52 years and have owned some very fine guitars. When I took this Les Paul Special outta the box. It reeked of quality, and was literally flawless. But who would think otherwise. Epiphone has been getting it right for 140 years. I've had a lot of fun with this guitar, and am highly pleased with this purchase. The level of quality at this price can't be beaten, and I envision me doing business with AMS for many years to come.

Product Review I bought my LP Special II several years ago used for next to nothing. The previous owner tried to install active pick ups and couldn't get them to work. It came with the stock pick ups so I reinstalled them, adding new Gibson selector switch, pots and caps. Set the neck and bridge up properly. Sounds incredible and have about 100 bucks total in it. Every bit as good as my Gibson.

Product Review Not a bad guitar, the stop tail piece isnt parallel with the bridge which is a bit strange and 2 of the tuners already have a little too much play, sad for a guitar thats only a month old,the neck is also a little too sensitive even a little pressure will cause a pitch change but then again its a budget guitar. The sound on the other hand is good and worth the price and the fit and finish is good.

Product Review Beat inexpensive, and quality made Paul on the market! Very well built, and sonically sound, available to cover any musical “bag” you’re into! Good balance and weight for lengthy gigs and rehearsals! Easily replaceable, if stolen or lost, as the opposite, if you brought along a vintage or overly priced “big brother” LP!!! Get this “sleeper” of an Axe, at one superb price, while you still can!!!

No. It fell apart at 4 months. Very poorly. At first it was nice and fun with a solid tone, but after 4 months, it started falling apart from the inside. Your general opinion of this product. Even though I took extreme care of it, and never dropped or scratched it once, it just stopped working after 4 months. After that, I took it to the Gibson store in Nashville, TN, and they opened it up to see what was wrong with it. They told me I had several pieces on the inside that were all messed up and some even missing. Though had problems, it was light, and comfortable to hold. Very smooth neck, and the controls are nice and easy to control. The tone is very light, but comes in strong on an amp. Somewhat smooth. The 2 pickups are thin and give the guitar its strong tone. The paint job was awesome. As long as its taken care of the paint job will remain easy to clean, and always giving its beautiful look. It was decent. The box it came in looked very old, but like it didn't take much of a beating. The guitar package itself though, and the guitar, both looked very sweet and fresh from the store.

Very well made as far as I can tell. I have played it everyday since owning it and have had no problems with the quality of this guitar. Very young guitar, time will tell. Your general opinion of this product. Beautiful looking. Not too many complicated controls, good starting guitar, great price. I think it may be a bit heavy but I have only held a Fender Strat once before and didn't play it. This guitar is heavier but I'm a big guy so no problem. Not even qualified to answer this question. Sorry, please read other reviews. Wow, Cherry Sunburst! Great. Again, too new of a gutar player to know what to say here. I was able to tune it and play it the first day I unpacked it.

Very well made. This is a solid guitar. No let downs here. Only owned the guitar for 4 months, but is a solid instrument. No issues so far! Your general opinion of this product. Excellent overall guitar for the money. Bought it for my son, and I couldn't believe how closely it plays and sounds like my Gibson Les Paul. If you're looking for a great guitar, like the Les Paul look and feel, and don't care about not having the Gibson logo on your headstock, look no further! Feels like a Les Paul. Neck is pretty fast, and great for a slide. Controls are right where you'd expect them to be within easy reach and without any guess work. Neck pickup is hot, while the bridge is dark and mellow. Great for all styles of music. Perfect! Absolutely beautiful. The action was set very well... may need to tweak a little for your individual feel, but perfect for the majority of players.

A+ quality Very reliable, no issues whatsoever. Your general opinion of this product. I am a beginner (playing one month) and this guitar has been perfect for me to learn on. I bought the sunburst model, its beautiful. Straight out of the box it plays very well with some tuning. The strings are good enough to start with. I rate it 5 stars! Very fast neck, can be very clean sounding and can get chunky as you want for that metal sound. Pickuos are hot enough to learn on. The sunburst finish is absolutely beautiful.

If I did such things, I wouldn't hesitate to take my Special on a world tour... I've had mine 8 years and it has held up like a tank. I've upgraded it some and now I wouldn't be afraid (or ashamed) to play her on any stage. I did have to change out the volume & tone pots and the 3-way switch eventually. Your general opinion of this product. Overall, the Special II is a great beginner or back-up guitar as-is. Change the tuners, give her a good set-up, new strings, and maybe a Graphtech nut, and she's ready for any stage. The older Special II's like mine are very heavy, around 9 pounds-so get STRAPLOCKS! The rosewood fretboard is smooth and fast, no sharp fret ends, etc. Controls are right where they need to be. See "Sound" above... These are quite plain-Jane, so don't expect an eye-popping masterpiece like a Gibson LP Custom...however, the paint and polyurethane finish on mine was flawless. (I got the white one) This thing was made in China, and Epi quality control was a little lax, so I had to set up the action and intonation myself. You can expect to do this on most low-end guitars, though. The Tune0matic bridge and truss rod make this fairly easy.

GREAT IF YOU PUT A LITTLE WORK INTO IT! TOTAL COST OF MINE WITH GUITAR: $250 YOU WILL SIMPLY NOT FIND A BETTER SOUNDING GUITAR AT THIS PRICE RANGE (I GUARENTEE IT) 2ND)CHANGE OUT THE PICKUPS!! THIS IS TO YOUR PREFERENCE (i.e. EMG'S OR DUNCANS) IF YOU CAN ONLY DO ONE, I RECCOMEND THE BRIDGE P.U. 1ST Your general opinion of this product. FIRST AND FOREMOST: THIS IS A BEGINNER GUITAR! WITH THAT BEING SAID HERES THE GOOD NEWS! A FEW UPGRADES CAN MAKE THIS SOUND AS GOOD AS THE REST OF EM! THIS IS CHEAP WOOD...IT WILL DING EAISLY...IN MY OPINION IF YOU GIG WITH IT, IT SHOULD BE IN A CASE NOT A BAG GREAT AFTER MODIFICATIONS: YOU WANT THAT GODSMACK/P-ROACH CRUNCH/SUSTAIN THEN FOLLOW THESE STEPS 4TH) ADJUST THE PICKUP HEIGHT TO YOUR SPECS...(i.e. IF YOU LIKE A LOT OF DIST. THEN RAISE IT CLOSER TO THE STRINGS AND VISA-VERSA) BE CAREFUL YOU WILL GET A NASTY TONE KNOWN AS THE "WOLF GROWL" SOUND IF THEY ARE TOO CLOSE TO THE STRINGS! 3RD) PUT NEW STRINGS ON IT AND ADJUST THE ACTION AND THEN THE INTONATION! THE FACTORY PRE-SETS THE ACTION VERY HIGH SO THERE IS NO STRING BUZZ THAT WOULD OTHERWISE DISCOURAGE YOU FROM BUYING THIS GUITAR...(IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY ADJUST THE ACTION TAKE IT TO A GUITAR SHOP AND HAVE SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE DO IT FOR YOU) YOU CAN REALLY GET A GUITAR OUT OF WHACK IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING (ITS KINDA LIKE A CARB ON AN OLD CAR) GOTTA GET IT JUST RIGHT!

I think that overall it is a well made product.....not greatly made but well made. It feels very solid and nothing appears to be loose or shorting out. We have only had it for a month now, but the two year old boy loves it has had recreated years worth of abuse and it is solid and holding fast. There is some grip about the tuners, true they are cheap and lose tune, however; playing for hours it holds true....if you let it sit a few days it will drop a little. Any guitarist that doesn't turn his/her guitar everytime before playing it is a idiot anyway!! Your general opinion of this product. My wife wanted to learn how to play, so I ordered this for her. I have several guitars and most of them are high end and no offense to her but I wasn't about to let a complete novice grab ahold of my Gibson LP Black beauty or my Gibson SG....Ha! I thought this would be a good start for her, truth be told over the last month....I have snuck and played this thing more than my own high end guitars. It's simply amazing....its fast great tone, very light, and looks amazing(Cherry Sunburst). Is this one that I would gig with....nah, but for around the house...I am thinking of ordering one for me....Although I will never hear the end of it if I do!! This is amazing for a sub $300 guitar. I often forget that it was so cheap. The neck is fast(for a painted neck). It is so light that can barely feel it standing. The controls are the standard places. It sounds very bright when clean. With very heavy distortion (Using a POD X3 Live) it can get a little muddy, but with light distortion (AC/DC, Van Halen and etc.,) it shines. Great sustain and easy to finger tap! Again for a low end, looks sharp. She loves it, and my friends have been amazed by the look. It looks like a thousand dollar guitar! Right out of the box it was very close to tune. Dialed it in and wailed on it (she had to stop me and demand that I hand it over to her).No fret buzzing and no popping or cracking in the sound.

The guitar appears to be well made. The pickups were a little loose, no major issue. Finish is good, tuners work adequately (I will probably replace them, though, eventually). For the price, excellent. I'm pretty sure as long as I don't hammer nails with it or use it as a weapon it should be ok. I've had it for two weeks, no problem as of yet. I don't foresee any problems either. Your general opinion of this product. For my purposes, this guitar is perfect. I am primarily a keyboard player, and use mostly keyboards and acoustic guitar in my recording. This guitar is intended to complement those instruments, and will be used sparsely in the studio. Again, for my purposes, it is perfect. It is not intended for constant use, but as an instrument to complement my recordings. If I were using it every day for extended periods, I might want something a little lighter. I found tone to be nice and smooth when set to use both pickups. Treble setting is quite bright, rhythm setting has a "subdued," understated tone. I purchased the white model. I love the finish. More importantly, my girlfriend loves the finish. Playable. I will be taking it to get it properly set up at some point, though.

I wouldn't really...i have one, and i had to invest in new grover tuners, and an intonation (or about 6), and get some custom work done to get it to stay in tune. Oh, and the electronics go...i'm on my fifth pickup selector switch, but this time, i had them use genuine Gibson Les Paul parts, instead of epiphone. I have swapped out the pickups for Seymour Duncan Metal Massacre Humbuckers, and am thrilled. It has stood up way better than i expected. i paid $190 for it, and it's still rocking almost a decade later. Your general opinion of this product. Good beginners guitar - experienced guitarists won't like it. It is really heavy, but has a fast neck, and plays like a metal guitar. The controls are within reach, and loose enough to turn with ease. Really bright clean tone, really grunge-y distortion, but i don't know anymore, as it has aftermarket pickups Looks ok, really really sensitive though. I bumped it lightly on the kitchen table, and took off some finish. Looks ok still though from a distance. Action sucked out of the box, but like i said, it was swiftly fixed, and once that happened, nothing else has gone

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
I have had this guitar for two months and it has stood up well. The sound of the pickups are alright, they don't pick up tapping well. This guitar should last a while. The best quality is the frets and fret board. The worst is the tuner keys.

FEATURES:
The're aren't may features on this guitar. The bad thing is the tuner keys suck. I would add a different set of pick=ups and tuner keys. Mine came with picks, tuner, amp, sucky amp cord,

EASE OF USE:
This product is pretty easy. The thing is that it comes outa tune easy.

VALUE:
Yeh the price I paid id great. No I prolly would save up for the Synyster Gates Custom Shecter.

SOUND:

QUALITY:
It's good quality for the price.

FEATURES:
The pickup selector is in a better position than the other LP's. Like a strat its right by the volume/tone knobs

EASE OF USE:
Like I said I like the position of the pickup selector and it has a nice slick neck

VALUE:
it's a good value I wouldn't pay more than another fifty for it though.

SOUND:
It sounds great from the start then with some 57's GHS 9-42 it made a great guitar, tuners could be better but I got in the habit already of tuning up after everysong and I dont down tune so that keeps the strings in check.

STYLE:
(hard)rock, heavy metal, grunge, blues

MUSIC EXPERIENCE:

OVERALL:
I would get rid of this guitar, it's not my main guitar like my custom strat but It really helps to have a second or third guitar to depend on and use in recording and little gigs and practices.

Your general opinion of this product. It's not pretty. It's not for everyone... but this baby is loud. It doesn't have great clean tone, but turn on the distortion and it roars... had mine for three years, hasn't failed me yet. It follows me to the studio.

QUALITY:
The Fretboard is flawless. It's extremely easy to slide and do hammers, I love it. Some problems with the tuner keys but that's nothing big at all.

FEATURES:
Not many feature. There are only 2 nobs, 1 volume and 1 tone, the clean sound is usually best anyway.

EASE OF USE:
This guitar is the easiest thing I've ever played.

VALUE:
The value is pretty good. I've had some minor problems with the tuning keys, but that has very little effect.

SOUND:
The sound is pretty good. I've played all the big names on all the best amps and you can't beat gibson. In the sub-800 category, this is the best sounding guitar.

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
Its very dependable. Once at a gig i hit this epi with my bassists fender and i broke his headstock. OOPS! I have also dropped it a lot and it has been scratched but it still works fine. Besides I think scratcges give it character.

FEATURES:
The pickups arent that good so i put in some seymours, but for the price I would get this guitar again. Everything else is fine but if you want anything replaced (like the tuners)its easy to do yourself.

EASE OF USE:
Very easy to use just plug in and play.

VALUE:
Definitely worth the price paid. I wouldnt pay more for it cuz i'm broke.

SOUND:
I think the pickups arent very good but the price makes up for it. (Get some seymour duncans!)

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
This is avery well made product. It is one of the most dependable guitars I've ever had. I love the paint job on it it's so cool. I think this guitar will hold up for a while because it is an epiphone and they make some of the best guitars out there. i don't think there is any flaws with this guitar it is so nice. 5 of course.

FEATURES:
I love the hardware on it. It is some of the best hardware out there. I don't think there is one unimpressive thing about it. i would add strap locks on it because my strap fequently fall off. There weren't any accessories that came with this guitar, but the reason why is because it doesn't need any. 5 for sure.

EASE OF USE:
It is very easy to use. I like it better than my Fender Stratocastor because it is very light weight and it looks a lot cooler. It is a very good starter guitar because it is very easy to use. It is very playable because it is so light weight. 5 all the way.

Should last forever, considering I bashed it on the floor my first time playing out with it and it held up fine. Recently though, the treble pickup has been a little fickle, might just be an error on my part though.

Pretty basic. All the guitar I need. Gives a wide range of sounds for such a basic design.

Your general opinion of this product. this is a great guitar for the price. it has very few features wich mite seem bad at first but it just means u have less things to mess with and worry about. the two open coil humbuckers deliver a fat and juicy tone suitable for playing heavy metal. my old guitars were a jay turser jt-62 and a barracuda lps400. they were both good guitars but this one is greater by far. from the style, colour to the fast neck suitable for strumming and picking. i take this guitar on all my gigs and it has never let me down. to me the only guitar that can match up to this is the epiphone lp special 2 with chrome pick covers or a gibson lp studio. and as u can see the others are quite expensive.

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
Mine was nicely finished. Very solidly made. The quality of the electronics, however, isn't the best, nor are the tuners.

FEATURES:
The 2-humbucker design and Les Paul styling are most appealing. Only 1 tone & volume control are a small drawback. Mine did come with a hex key wrench for the truss rod and a cheapie amp cord.

EASE OF USE:
After adjusting the action & intonation, playability was very good. Wouldn't stay in tune very well, though.I replaced the tuners with some Grover-style ones and installed a graphite nut, which helped a bunch!

VALUE:
The guitar was worth its price, but not more.

SOUND:
The sound of the original pickups left something to be desired. I replaced mine with American-made pickups and also replaced the 3-way switch, tone & volume pots, and the input jack with USA units. Much better!

STYLE:
Christian/gospel, bluegrass, some country & light rock, finger

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
This guitar looks and plays just as good as a more expensive cousin. It's very easy to tune and it stays in tune for a long time.

FEATURES:
The overall look of the guitar is amazing. I have the sunburst. It's eye catching. The style is very retro but that's the way I like it. I did get the guitar in a complete set-up, the gig bag, 10 watt amp, picks and 6ft. cable, along with an instructional CD.

EASE OF USE:
It's very easy to use. Plug it in and rip it! I'm still in a leaning curve with it but the progress is there.

VALUE:
You get a lot of bang for the buck. Super quality and sound. Just what you expect from a Les Paul.

SOUND:
The sound is fantastic. I'm still a rookie but I get a huge head rush every time I start to play it. I've added a "Grunge" pedal and the added distortion is SICK!

Your general opinion of this product. I have owned two of these already, 'cause for the money and sound quality, this guitar can't be beat! Although it has a bolt-on neck, (and that might be an issue with some of you purists out there), don't give it a second thought! Makes a superb guitar for Blues, Classic Rock and even country. The neck is fast and comfortable to play, and those Humbuckers are fat and defined, even at high volumes. I have used this guitar as my main axe for gigs, and have been playing a very long time, so take my word for it. Light-weight, well balanced, solid construction, great tone, superb value, use it for your main or back-up guitar.
