Product Rating Product Review I got this thing because as a guitar player I just wanted a Bass around. We have a GS Mini but it kind of feels like a toy. I opted for the Mustang because I wanted something that wouldn’t intimidate my kids too much should they attempt to play it. So far I’m the only one that has touched it but it’s a blast. “To me” it doesn’t feel too little or like a toy. Sound is huge, not a bass expert, but sounds P Bass with 1st volume on only and I assume it’s more Jazz bass with 2nd volume only or blend. The action was high, but I just lowered it down and tuned it up and it was ready to go. Finish is cool, I have a surf green CS Strat that is drastically more vibrant and glossy, but it’s still a cool green and the matt finish feels nice. I probably just needed the MIM for my needs, but with AMS payments may as well just treat yourself! The American model has the two volumes instead of a selector switch, beefy string through bridge, and a great neck and tuners. My only electric with a gig bag, nothing special to say about that, but can easily purchase a hard case later if needed.

Product Review This bass is just amazing. Perfectly balanced and sounds amazing with some flat wounds on it. The perfect amount of growl and funk, with enough flexibility for multiple genres.

Product Review This SUCKS.....THAT I DIDN'T BUY IT SOONER. Just purchased this little bass and was very skeptical because I had never seriously entertained a short scale bass before. I regularly play a Stingray with my 3 piece and it has been perfect, but we added a B3 organ player to the band, well I got lost in the mix. After watching an interview with JMJ talking about his signature mustang bass and how the sound dynamic was fundamentally different due to the scale and it could be distinguished in a big sound setting I pulled the trigger on the American Performer Mustang. (what did I have to lose with AMS return policy and all) I gig twice a week and used this little bass on my last gig (I'm no pro, more like the store brand of a bass player not the name brand). I was really impressed with the new tone pallet available to me. The lows were LOW from the mustang pick ups but there was strange crispness that I did not expect from the bass when played with a pic (I know Davie504 it's a sin) and roll off the Greasebucket tone control and I could play some sweet DUB Step lines. The mustang pic-up was very responsive and suitable for many playing situations, but add the Jazz PU into the mix and turn the tone all the way up and this thing turns into a jangly groove monster with surf green fur, especially on a overdriven tube amp. The disadvantages that I found with this little bass are completely subjective, the scale and string tension was difficult for me to quickly adapt to (my fault for not being a short scale player) but after a little time with the bass I wasn't playing sharp during a progression anymore and I figured out how to properly attack a rubber-band E string LOL. The only thing I could call a legit complaint was the fret edge dressing. I know that they are JUMBO frets and can be a nightmare to dress perfectly, but C'MON this is an American made Fender there should no be any sharp frets, not looking for custom shop rolled but would like proper for $1249.00. After a couple hits with a fret file problem solved. With that aside the satin SURF GREEN is so cool and goes so well with the pearl pickguard. Tuners, electronics, bridge all seem to be quality (note this bridge is not the same 7 bolt bridge from the JMJ or Vintera series) I have no opinion on whether that is a good or bad thing because I have not played either, but the JMJ and Vintera bridge is aesthetically more pleasing in my opinion. I have been playing for 30 years and always shied away from the mustang, because of the "student & toy bass" label it was given, MAN WAS I WRONG!!!!!!!!! I love this little light-weight powerhouse, I can't wait to break it in. Now I have to go learn some Talking Heads lines.

Product Review This bass guitar is absolutely gorgeous! The warm tone sounds amazing especially adding a bass overdrive. I’m in love with the short-scale neck that is very comfortable and allows more maneuverability on stage.

Product Review Light weight and shorter scale make this a joy to play!! These American pickups insure you do not loose any sound quality. Wish it came with a case too.
