Product Review Well organized unit Super easy! Had it set up in less than 5 mins & working properly! Everything I need all in one simple unit! More than enough for the money spent!!! Certainly a great buy for the home project studio. Ease of set up was key. Love the product! It's my first Focusrite model!

this Pro 40 feels as good as the Liquid saffire 56, I own both! Very solid!! I love everything about this unit, the one thing I would change is I would have inputs one and two on the back of the unit! I dont care for having cables running around the front of my desk! Very easy to use, the Mix control software can be confusing if you want to do crazy routing but for normal use the default preset wqorks great! Well considering this is pretty much the same as the liquid saffire 56 minus the 2 liquid channels and a few other options and..I paid a grand for the 56....this thing is well worth the money! Looks great, i AM NOT THE TYPE THAT REALLY CARES ABOUT LOOKS, THE SOUND IS WHAT MATTERS!!

The Pro 40 is very well built. Knobs feel great, sound is great. Number of outputs, Perfect for mixing. If I had a choice I would add another light pipe I/O Very easy to use, The video explains everything you need to know to get up and running Bought this interface Dec 2010 and haven't use anything else since. It's what I've been looking for, it works with all of my recording softwhare. Amazing sound quality. Very easy to use. And it comes with some very cool plug-ins. Lights up my Rack.

Focus-Rite Interface for the Job!

I've only had a few weeks with mine, but every indication is this product is extremely solid. The pots seem very tight, the exterior finish of the product is high grade, and all pre seems to respond flawlessly. The best features of this unit are the quality of the mic pres (for the this price range), the stability of the drivers in Windows 7, 64 and the infinite signal routing possibilites the device has. If I would recommend a change, I might suggest the Focusrite revise the software mix control to provide a simplified/basic routing setup, and then the option for an advanced routing(current state) in another tab. The product setup is a breeze. The only tricky part of this device is that all of the routing options for the signal can over complicate the set up of the device within your DAW. While working in PT 9.02, It was more challenging than normal to mute unwanted signal while recording (input monitoring off). The product makes it very easy to get high quality, big house productions on a portable set up. Overall, the product presents the very best value in it's class. I replaced my PreSonus Firestudio Project with this device, and I couldn't be more satisfied at this point. The box presents a study exterior, with a high quality professional exterior finish.

Exceptional Piece

The Pro 40 is made well and deisgned well. You have A complete 5 stage led read out for each channel which for the money coupled with the pre-amps is tremendous. Also i like that the rack ears have covers so if you don't want to rack mount the piece it still looks nice. The preamps are clean. The level meters for each channel are clear and accurate. The connections are all neutrik type connectors so you can plug XLR or TRS into the Pro40. Big plus on that. The staggered up and down channel knobs is a little strange but it works. This is were I felt it could use help. Hardware wise the Pro40 is a champ. Software wise, trying to route and communicate effortlessly with my M-audio projectmix was sucky. I got it to work but not without little help from focusrite. Thats the only downfall to this product and sadly i feel many other standalone interfaces when trying to integrate into your system. Excellent value. Price was right. I almost bought the Presonus 8 channel equivalent and had all kinds of sync problems and the pre-amps sounded too unnatural so i sent that back and purchased this. It was well worth the change of heart and the money. I love the blue. The level meters look great. The knobs feel good. Its doesnt feel ceaply made. Its not the most beautiful out there. There are other interfaces with prettier appearances but your purchasing this for its sound quality so to me esthetics were least important. That being said I must say it looks great in low light with the meters going off.

Seems to be well made I only had it for an week but all the caponents are solid I love the mixer and 2 headphone mixes separate from the main outputs and you still have 8 direct outs which works perfect with my 8 buss mixer I am running Windows 7 64 and Sonar8.5 I couldn't get it to find the Firewire until I installed an firewire PCI card it wouldn't recognize the Firewire on the motherboard ...but it works great now no issues..It only took a few of minutes to get comfortable with the unit and software Yes a GREAT value for all you get with unit ...I may buy another

Great preamps, lots of i/o The routing is a learning experience, but once you get the hang of it, BAMMM. You can do anything! A learning curve indeed with the routing using the software. OMG. Value is amazing. Swapped a 828Mk3 for this. Saved $300, and AMS price matched another price so I got more off the final price!

Where does it rank in the firewire audio interfaces?

Metal chassis and yes it is well made and yes it is dependable. Best features? Somewhat ease of use and if I were to add any features to this unit, focusrite would havr to pay me first. Nothing in life is free. Lol Eaase of use was somewhat. I tried to change the outputs for say a set of outher speakers but did not happen. Yes I read the book... Value? It is a good value especially what you pay for it BUT... I feel if a company sells a product be it in the States or otherwise you should a telephone number for support. Are you seriouss? The only way to contact them is through email and at first they werer good at getting back but became worst from than on. That is one of the reasons I no longer have it. If you are in the entertainment industry you should not have too wait a couple of days or weeks to hear from anybody you but products from. I do not know what is worst, a company with no telephone number or talking to some jerk in tech support with a attitude who charges you to have a conversation with them. They may be the industry standard but that is another product for another story. This is just my honest thoughts on this product and until they can get telephone support I will not buy any of their products. That is why I gave the company more than the product a low value score but since the product represents the company. I do like the sexy black look.

Great firewire recording module

Metal chassis, connections seem solid and I like the dual XLR/1/4" line input jacks. Barring falling in a large body of water, it would seem to function 100% for a long time. Upgraded from the Saffire 10 i/o which had numerous latency issues. Dual XLR/1/4" Line jacks - 2 on the front and 6 on the back. LED input level meter on the front and two separate monitor outputs. I can't think of any additions I would make to the unit. The Saffire software interface is very detailed and nice controls for every aspect of the module. I gave it four stars because I couldn't get the Pace VST Plugin Authorisation to work! The site "asked" for the serial number which is located on the bottom of the unit but the field length would accommodate all but two of the characters and then told me it was invalid. I finally had to uninstall the software/reinstall and move the Saffire VST plugin folder out of the VST Plugins... little bit of a pain but it worked. Pretty Easy in Windows XP - failed for Windows 7 - don't ask my opinion of Vista (YUCK!) I had it out of the box, connected, drivers in and recording through it in about 45 min - 15 min of that was trying to configure it in Windows 7, the drivers are not Windows 7 friendly - hopefully that will change after October! For what it is, what it does and the stuff that comes with it - I would say good value. All black chassis, faceplate black with bright LEDs and the LED input level meter... dang sharp. Looks better (in my opinion) than the Saffire 10 i/o.
