Product Rating Product Review Fortunate enough to have played a bunch of great amps and this has to be in the top 5. All the classic sounds with a little more if you need or want it. Beautiful effects loop and tone stack that actually does work. I’ve had mine for about a yr and a half and I’m still playing it.

It’s a tighter more modern sounding JMP 50 but with plexi added greatness

Product Review I recently bought the Friedman Smallbox to retire my ‘78 Marshall JMP 2204. The Smallbox is very well built and will withstand the rigors of the road in style. It does have a similar feel to my JMP but with tighter bass and smoother highs. The fx loop is also a very handy bonus. What really set my neck hairs alight was the plexi channel. This offered me a more retro/vintage style voicing and is very cool indeed, anything from cleans with a slight hair on the note to more AC/DC type throaty driven sounds, really cool feature and is fantastic both live and in the studio. Really dig this amp!

Product Review The Friedman Small Box is the best amp I have ever played. From a great plexi channel to the modded Be channel it literally has all the classic rock sounds you can think of . Dave Friedman is a genius. This amp is that good. AMS is great to deal with and their financing program is second to none

One of the best Marshall's built today, except far far better.

Product Review I've never heard a Friedman amp sound bad. The SmallBox is one of Dave'd most popular amps. The SmallBox channel one is basically the best plexi tone you'll ever hear. Channel 2 is a JCM800 with clearer upper-mids, more clarity and more natural harmonics. In other words, it's a hot-rodded JCM800 that you can play at ALL volumes and still sound amazing. The build quality of Friedman amps is top notch, the tolexing is some of the best if not the best I've ever seen. The SmallBox has very quick attack and translates to a very snappy, immediate feel. One of the biggest differences between the SmallBox and Dirty Shirley/Twin Sister (which I own both) is that the Dirty Shirley has a much spongier, sag. They're both amazing but they feel more different than they sound. So if you like super fast, articulate feel with a lot of harmonics go with the SmallBox, think EVH tones. If you like the more classic, spongier sound with a bit of sag when the amp is pushed, go with the Dirty Shirley, or do what I did and get both because these amps are among the best amps you can get right now.

Product Review I’ve been a Marshall guy for 25 years and have had them all. The problem with Marshall is the inconsistency. Every Friedman I’ve played has been stellar. The smallbox is extremely dynamic and loud as hell. All the gain I need and I play medium output pickups. Very musical and rewarding to play this amp.

Product Review I owned an original 80’s JCM 800 which later sold. After years of doing the “little amp” thing I wanted to get back to the kind of sound from my roots and this thing gets me there and beyond. Back off the guitar volume and it goes from searing lead to crunch and further to light break up. The plexi side has the perfect amount of gain and clarity making it easy to get a great rhythm recording sound. You can dial in a great clean sound too. Inspiration in a small box!

Product Review I have an old 73 Marshall combo that I keep in my studio and wanted that old Plexi tone. This thing nails it and also has a couple other things that make this outstanding. The effects loop sounds great! Both channels are awesome and I love the simplicity of two channels. I will be taking off my Bogner La Grange pedal and adding a H9 to my board. All my guitars sound great in this amp. The head is not too heavy and their is plenty of head room on the clean channel. It sounds great on low volumes but shines when you push it. I’ve been using an Orange Rockerveb for the past 3 years which is a great amp but I’m sticking with this as my go to amp.

Product Review I am a huge fan of plexi style amps but they are loud and most smaller clubs you are just too loud. This amp for me gives me the sound I want at a better volume level for smaller venues.Larger venues where you can crank it up it just sounds even better. The plexi channel is super sweet and nails that plexi sound. The 2nd channel has a higher gain Marshall sound and works very well with the 1st channel. Both channels take pedals very well and the effects loop is very transparent. The amp gives you the sound of a driven power section at lower volumes. The eq is very usable and the knobs have a nice sweep. The bright switch on the 1st channel does make a huge difference making it easy to dial in the tone you want to balance with the 2nd channel. It does cost a bit but its well worth the price. I have been playing for 40 years and have owned about every amp out there. This one is a keeper.

Product Review I have gigged with one of these amps for 2 years and have had zero issues with it. Clean, crunch and lead are all very usable at all volumes however starts to truly shine when you get the volume up around 11 o’clock. It does all pre jvm Marshall tones extremely well and sounds much better than the bogner’s I have owned. I’ll never understand why this amp doesn’t get talked about me. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about it!
