I have two of these mic' preamps. They are an essential tool in a studio. They give your mic's a db boost and give you a better quality signal. This particular Mic pre has a DI input, which is fantastic, I don't need to purchase/have a separate DI box. It has a sturdy build and looks cool.

The character of this thing is great but as you turn it up to get enough gain, you also turn up a lot of noise. I actually thought I had a bad unit and AMS replaced it for me. The replacement was the same. I seriously doubt I got two defective units in a row. So, I sold it last year.
Supposedly if you get one of those cloud preamps they will add enough volume so you don't have to turn up the gain on this one but it seems redundant to me to have to buy two preamps for one mix.

I would like to say whatever you do ,do not under estimate the golden age Preamp Junior. It is as power packed as his big brother I know because I have the big brother! it’s warm and it’s powerful with a lot of character you cannot go wrong with this Preamp!!! Ps. My mentor said it best .....
To me, these old design pre's have a natural compression and smoothness to them.
But they still have a lot of mid-range detail.
As for me....
AMS as always delivered. What a great store!!
