I’ve been playing guitar for almost 50 years and have recently turned my art to bass fretless bass. I started out with katana, not happy with it. Then got a Fender Rumble. Nothing but issues with it. After much debate I finally decided to try the Hartke HD500. I’ve ever been happier with an amp purchase. Plenty of power, the EQ work great for that mwah scooped sound. I would buy again without hesitation!

I really like this amp. It has plenty of volume and great tone. I rarely get past 4 on volume. It also has direct out if you want to go into the board. It only weighs 35 pounds!! That is a huge selling point for me. I play it with a P-Bass, a Jazz bass and a P/J G&L, and they all sound great through it. If it died or were stolen, I would buy another immediately. I haven't found any weak points. I did buy a soft dust cover for it, but other than that, I've played a dozen or so gigs so far through it and countless rehearsals, and it punches way above its weight.

After several years of playing an Ampeg BA500 that weighs 95lbs.... I decided to give the Hartke HD500 a shot. Ordered it from AMS, had it in 2 days! Got it to rehearsal, opened it up and wow!!! There is depth, chunk, clarity and tones that I never got from the Ampeg. I was really surprised by the the entire range of the EQ. The whole band was digging the tone coming out of the two 10" hydrive speakers. It was keeping up with a 100 watt tube head and a mad man for a drummer. Set the volume to 4 and was clear as a bell in the mix! I recommend the Hartke HD500! Can't wait to hit the next gig with it. My rig consists of the Hartke (obviously) Darkglass Microtubes B7K Ultra V2, Joya compressor, Ibanez tuner, Boss pedalboard, Spector Euro Bolt 4, Legend Standard 5, and hot rod Performer DLX. I also recommend AMS very highly! They have been so great to me over so many years. I have bought a lot of gear from them and they always treat me great!

The half aluminum and half paper speakers give this amp great bottom and awesome top end response. I love that it is lightweight for its size. I have had it for several weeks practicing with it and will get to gig with it next weekend. This amp more than meets my expectations. The two 10" speakers are perfect for getting that high end slap bass sound. I love the simplicity of the controls and the shaping channel can bring out the highs or lows for any style of playing. I will be using this amp exclusively for the foreseeable future.

I have had this for about 2 months, and I can say that I enjoy it alot. This combo is loud enough to jam with a guitarist and drummer, but anymore instruments would leave it lacking a bit in volume.
The EQ is simple with Low, Mid, and High controls, but it's easy to get a nice tone. The Shape knob let's you cut a range of mids to suit your room, and it REALLY helps sculpt a better sound and feel.
I personally wish it had a 10db pad for use with active basses, and I would have loved an output to place a separate cab underneath.
That being said, this is a super portable amp that can be used for jamming or even gigs with sound reinforcement.

I use this amp at my sit down gig at a fairly large Eagles club. It fills the room and I can only turn the volume up a third of that way past "off!"
I leave it there for other bassists to use on their nights and they all love it.
Really useful tone controls and good looks, also! I might buy another to carry around for side gigs...

This amp is all you’ll ever need. The 2 ten’s punch out enough sound to cover even the largest of venues and still sounds good at low volume for practice at home. Easy to carry and not heavy.

Hartke knocked it out of the park with these hydrive combos. I previously lugged around the LH1000 head and Hydrive 410 cab... then... I got my hands on this combo. Same insane tones in a super lightweight, portable combo!

If you are looking for a rig that's not too small and not too big, this is the amp for you!! Perfect for small gigs and small church venues. Great sound and power for such a small amp, love it, I rather play it than my larger rig!! Great Job Hartke

Back in the early 70’s, I needed a van just to haul my SVT cabinets and I’ve only used 15” speakers, but I decided to take a chance on this light combo that I can easily lift into my Mazda. I was concerned about not being able to add another cabinet to this combo, but after using it onstage a few times, my fears disappeared. I never turned it up past 3 and even hitting the strings hard on my 5 string, the clarity and punch never diminished. I love the shaping control and some higher notes that disappeared on SWR redtop were distinct on this HD 500 by simply adjusting the midrange. I’ve had a back surgery and a double rotator cuff surgery 3 years ago from lifting and twisting my SWR into the backseat of my car, so if you’re tired of humping larger systems, but still want that tight, distortion free sound, your wish has been granted.

You cant do wrong playing through this amp. Tone for days!!! You want that slaptastic sick funk boom!!! You want that low blues growl booom! You need that country boomchicka done!!! I've pl kayed festivals and casinos with this thing and never need to line out. Although you can! Hartke hit the nail on 5he head with this one.

Very glad I got this amp. I was on the fence about getting another combo, but with the light weight setup at gigs is laughable. Most of my gigs are bars and small venues and the HD500 has more than enough volume for me, generally I dont need to move past a 6. I play bluegrass and metal, it works well for both. OD/fuzz sound really nice through this. Sounds good with low tuning as well.

This is 12 pounds lighter then my peavey max was and sounds much better! Lighter,sleeker,smaller, more powerful and an amazing tone. I leave the Eq flat with the exception of the bass at around 2 o clock position with the tone shaping off. Great for us older guys that can no longer carry the heavy weights but still have tons of headroom, which by the way I've not been able to get past 1 at practice and 3 in live setting. Yes it's that powerful and tight bass response. I like the fact that theres not tons of swithches, it's simplicity at it's best without sacrificing tone. Also I can practice in silence with the aux in and headphone out. What more could you ask for? The best part is it's priced way below the high end competition and sounds as good if not better. Im a happy Camper ??????????

I like tight, clear, sharp, and responsive bass. I've used a Sunn Beta Bass 15 (which I still have) for years but honestly when I first plugged into this thing, THIS is the sound I've been looking for. It has all the qualities I list above AND it weighs less then half what the Sunn weighs. I Love these hybrid ten inch speakers and it gets Plenty loud for my uses. It'll shake the floor but won't break your back transporting it. The Only reason it gets four stars instead of five is because I don't have the option of connecting a 12 or 15 in cab to it. But other than that I love it. Things have come a long way since I first started playing.

I purchased my first Hartke combo amp almost 20 Years ago. This amp has the power and tone from the 3500 I’ve been looking for! I love that you can use the effects send as a DI! Comes in handy to record using the built in preamp on the cab instead of the one on my interface. I’ve used it at venues that seats more than 300 without PA reinforcement with no problem. Even with my passive jaws basses, it still has a lot of clean and clear punch.

I used this amp on a live gig for the first time and was shocked at the amount of power it has. This amp really packs a punch. Only two things I'm not crazy about, the first is no"Mute"switch,and second, not really keen on the contour control. Other than that I love it. I'm an older guy and really like the compact size and weight of the amp. Still have to do more gigs to really give it a descent field test, but initially it has proven to be a good investment...
