Product Rating Product Review This is the 4th Hofner in my collection. I have a Icon the day it came out, OK for the looks but the sound is not like a German bass, I have the contemporary, very heavy, I have one of the last re-issues ordered from Music Ground over 20 years ago. I never played it since I am righty but the bass is lefty and now i got the B-Bass Hi-Series Cavern. sounds great (Like the German Cousin) and strung righty. I wished it had vertical logo then it would be perfect but hey, It's not like I am going on tour. Super bass for the price.

Product Review I play in predominantly acoustic settings. I've always favored the sound of upright bass, but they are cumbersome. This bass is lighter, shorter and easier to play than my Fender Jazz, and comes much closer to an upright than I had imagines (with the proper LaBella strings). I'll probable get another for a backup. Wish that they made a 5 string version...

Product Review I've collected various Beatle bass clones over the years, so I couldn't pass up AMS' Scratch And Dent discount. All the scratches and dents were well within my range of what I could live with. While replacing the stock roundwound strings, I developed a tuner issue - which I wasn't surprised at, considering what I've read about Hofner tuners. But thanks to AMS that was a quick fix. Now that it's got a set of short scale GHS Precision Flats on it I love it. Bearing in mind that I'm a total non-professional, not an instrument snob, and just play for the fun of it, I think this bass sounds great and is fun and easy to play; it's got that unmistakable Hofner/Beatle tone, it's not all that difficult to get it fairly well intonated, and it looks great (except maybe for the pearloid plastic pickguard and Fender jazz bass tone knobs). And I do like having both pickups at the neck, for the tone and for historical reasons. Changing the strings the first time is a little bit of an ordeal, but it got done OK. I think Hofner was smart with these Ignition series basses: They're good quality instruments priced to be competitive with all the clones out there, but these are real Hofners, with the Hofner name on the headstock and the real tailpiece too. So for someone like me that in itself was worth a little extra money to upgrade from my clones (although I still like my clones and plan on keeping them).
