I was intimidated going into a 9 string but this guitar made it genuinely fun to experiment and create with. I like the stock PU's, they are a tad microphonic with overdriven distortion but a few simple tweaks will sort it out. Cleans shine with these PU's, clear and precise.
The finish is beautiful, really mesmerizing and deep. No fret issues at all, they were cut and rounded nicely as well as flat, concidering the surface area of 9 strings and an long scale. I do wish the fret board was either lighter in color or darker in color. I find it to subtle a transition between the body and the head stock. It would be beautiful with a light snake wood or ebony board.
The neck is great, nice radius and thickness. Not the fastest, I feel a little more friction on mine than I do normally but that could be chocked up to a rough final sand or an orange peel texture to the finishing coat (not sure if this guitar has that but...).
Hardware is very nice, glossy dark gray with some translucency. The pots were mounted straight and have no "crunchies" while rotating them. I'm very happy with this RG9QM, thinking of getting another and having it painted like Justin Lowe's green Ibanez!

Absolutely the best of the Ibanez guitars I owned. The action is great, and all of the additional strings sound good with nice tones once you get used to them. This guitar is great for re-writing older material, and transposing to lower keys. It can enhance your ideas for lower bass lines, and chords. I only wish they came with a tremolo system. That would be awesome ! Nevertheless, it truly was a great investment.

The guitar itself is beautiful. I have a six string one exactly like it. I just don't find the need for more than six strings reasonable unless you have 8 fingers to play with on your hands. Yeah, sure, epic shreds as such. But what else? You can do exactly the same thing on a six string, too.
