Tone selection is fantastic. Right out of the box it's ready to plug in and record or gig. (Tune it first of course) all of the hardware is insanely good considering the price. This is the perfect choice for someone who wants a wide range of tone for an excellent price. Highly recommend!!

Solid craftsmanship, everything was tight. No flaws in the finish. Ibanez has a winner in the Talman Bass 5! Electronics are a little cheap sounding but just keep them set in the middle and use your amp or preamp pedal to tweak. Frets were smooth, no fret sprout. Frets needed a polishing. Tuners keep it in tune once you get it string up with new strings, keep the tune.. I tuned it after stretching the strings a playing it for an hour. Has a decent "B" string, not floppy. So I Hung it up and came back a week later and it was still in tune, the "G" was like 1/8 out but locked in with a slight turn of the tuner. Strap buttons are large and straps stay on. Just buy it, it'll be the best $250 you'll spend..

Quality control checks by both Ibanez and AMS could be a lot better

Product Review
Received as a Christmas gift from my eldest daughter, upon unpacking and plugging it in, I noticed that there was considerable fret buzz, action was ALL over the place although intonation WAS spot on.
Worst still was the fact that both volume controls/tone selectors were VERY loose, in fact one was almost hanging out of the bass!! So, with about 10mins of time with a small set of pliers and taking the knobs off the controls, I had tightened these down. Seriously, these kinds of simple things done either BEFORE leaving the factory OR in receipt at a warehouse makes all the difference to Custome Experience with a company selling you the item.
In this case, it seems to me that AMS just sell the stuff, do not bother checking it at all and so you had better hope you get one that is in good condition. I have about 30mins of set up work to do on this...maybe more...so just disappointed in their service in general and the lack of attention from a brand such as Ibanez.

Cool looking bass that is great for slapping or articulate jazz or rock bass lines.

This is the first new bass I have bought in almost 20 years. It sounds great, the active electronics are perfect, the set up is great. I could't be happier. It's a beautiful Talman design and it's not a heavy bass. I own a few other basses, none this new. This one has become my go to bass. Ibanez did a wonderful job, proving that you don't have to spend thousands of dollars to have a great instrument.
