A few years ago these were good but not great like the 70s and 80s models. Ludwig refined their build process and these new ones are fantastic. Cant go wrong! Yeah its expensive but ill bet youve got a few 300 dollar drums that dont thrill you. Buy this and elevate your game

I was looking to add a different sound to my musical career,and after much research the Ludwig Black Beauty seemed to be the one with the highest reviews. After receiving I understand why. I own many snares; wood,steel and one particular aluminum shell snare I've had for 25 years that was my go-to snare for live and studio work that I thought nothing could beat until now.
The sound, versatility, and volume of the B.B. is unbelievable.I can tune it low, medium or high and it sounds amazing at every tuning.For live situations it can cut through loud guitars even without being miked. Not with and annoying ring, but a sweet sounding sustain that blends perfectly with live music.
My band noticed the difference immediately. This drum has brought a new life to songs we have recorded and played live for almost 20 years.It filled a void that we never noticed was missing. The tone, sustain, tunability, depth and volume make this the perfect snare.
I would highly recommend this snare. It is well worth the price and with the AMS payment plan it is possible for a drummer on a budget to afford one. Thank you AMS.

Ive had yamaha, tama, gretsch, and other snares which were all good but this snare is GREAT. So versatile, easy to tune, and easy to tune on the fly. This is probably the snare I'll retire with, years from now

I always wanted to have this snare, now thanks to AMS this dream has come true, Incredible snare, bright, elegant, louder, I love it.. Now I don't think it is necessary spend money in others snares, that's just the sound that I was looking for.. Certainly you were not wrong with this snare.. Now I understand why its price is worth every dollar!

I’ve been playing drums for about 20 years and have always wanted a Ludwig BB snare. I have to say it’s the best snare I have ever played. The tuning is is easy and sounds great with any tuning. I only wish I would have purchased one years ago. This snare definitely lives up to it’s name and I would highly recommend this snare.

Classic sound. Buy it once, and enjoy it for life. I have bought average, cheap snares in the past. What a waste. In the long run, a quality snare like this: 1.Saves money 2. Makes recording and mixing easy (less work fighting weird overtones) 3.Saves space, can "sell off" the inferior snares of the same size. Recap: Money, Time, Space, all saved. What a beautiful sound.

I own a small backline package and I have the 5x14 and the 6.5x14 sizes in my inventory. These snares are just perfect. I get the privilege of mixing my own snares when clients hire me to mix and provide backline. They just sit in the mix perfectly. The 6.5 deep version has a nice girthy sound that is extremely flexible. The 5" version isn't a slouch and sound pretty good tuned low, but also has a crack and bark that will cut through any thick mix. The fit and finish of these is also perfect. Almost every snare manufacturer has a copy of a black beauty in their product line up, but I own several of those copies and the Ludwig has a panache that the others don't have for the most part. Can't go wrong with this snare.

I started 50 years ago on a Supraphonic but of course we all knew the Black Beauty was THE snare drum. A whole generation of rockers grew up hearing the Black Beauty as the way a snare drum is supposed to sound. I had no idea that I would love it this much. Your set can never reach it's full potential until you get one of these!!!

I’ve always heard great things about the Ludwig Black Beauty and I wasn’t disappointed one bit. The drum sounds beautiful tuned high or low. Perfect for everything from worship to rock. The 14x8 is very large, but I think the 8 in depth makes the drum sing and sounds amazing. It really cuts through in the mix. I would highly recommend this drum to anyone, don’t let the price distract you. This drum is well worth every penny. And thanks to AMS you can make payments. Which is one of the reasons I extremely support this company. Not only from the great customer service. But the payments allows you to get great gear right away and pay over 3-8 months. Anyone out there looking for a great snare and great company to buy from, this is the place to come.
