This kit looks amazing! The ultramarine color pops! Everything from fit to finish seems flawless. It appears to have rock solid construction and quality parts. Even comes with nice Remo heads instead of some generic ones that must b e replaced immediately. Not only are the shells fantastic it also includes a very nice snare drum. I am going off my initial inspection of what arrived in the boxes, as these are a gift for my son. He has been eying this kit for quite some time now. I have been in many bands and seen many kits and this kit surpassed my expectations! Great job Mapex and thank you AMS for the great service!

Love the look of my kit. The pictures did not do it justice. I have it set up as my studio kit, and do no regret my purchase at all. Love it, and my only regret is that I am going to have to find another one of the kick drums so I can have dual kicks.

The color finish on this drum set is remarkable! More importantly, the tones of the drums were top notch fresh out of the box (even with factory drumheads). The feel of the drum set is very comfortable due to the tom placement options which is key to playing the way you want to play. I've had it for about two months now and I'm super happy I went with this product through American Musical Supply!!!

This is a great drum set for the money. I was looking for a second set and not spend a ton of money and this is working out great. The only thing I recommend is to immediately change out the stock heads. I went with the Evans EC2 and the Evans Genera Reso’s and this combo sounds great. I would definitely recommend this set.

I highly recommend! These drums are amazing and for the price point. I’ve had numerous drum brands from Yamaha to Gretsch. They project with great warmth and sustain..due to the maple/birch combo. I changed out the heads with Evans EC2..Wow!!

I bought these as a replacement for my Tama Starclassic maple not really knowing what to expect. I can say the tone is exceptionally close to that of the Tamas but the birch adds to the attack. Overall I am 100% pleased with them and would highly recommend them to anyone!!!

I gave this kit a 4 star rating for one reason only, the toms mount from cymbal stands. I find it difficult to hit the same set up everytime I move from one venue to the next. Other than that, this kit is great, very tunable and the Emearld Green is beautiful under the StageLights.

Note: I did immediately change the heads (Emperor on top, Ambassador on bottom). But this kit sounds and plays great. Add that to a beautiful finish and I don't think you can go wrong with this. The mounts are very nice as well. I haven't messed with the snare, but I will never compare about a snare being included with a shell pack.

I purchased this set after much research and hours logged on YouTube videos. For the money I think it’s the beast quality as far as materials used and the toms sound so good.

I chose this kit as my stage kit because of the hybrid birch/maple/birch construction and it did not disappoint. The fast attack and quick decay make it perfect for live settings. The other selling point for me was that the kick drum does not have a tom mount. I use a rack system for all my drums and the mount just gets in the way and distracts from the shell tone.

This kit is one of the best i've played. Once I got them set up and tuned, it was amazing and the finish I got (Black Dawn) is incredible. These are definitely worth it for any drummer. Mapex knocked it out of the park with this kit and I could not be more like pleased!!

First thing obviously is the beauty of this kit. You can just stare into the sheen and be instantly mesmerized. Easily the most beautiful drum set I have owned or even seen. My absolute love of the ocean seems to have taken flight with this finish.
Then lets talk about sound. These wwere so easy to tune and pair the tones equally. I have never understood having like a 12 and 13 inch pair of ride toms then drop off directly to a 16 inch floor. With the 10, 12, 14 then 16 inch step down, the is a smooth continuity like never before.
Then lets talk about the snare. This beast is heavier than any steel snare I've had. I basically tighten my batter head so it has no chance of ringing, then loosen my snare to give an incredible pop. This thing sounds amazing. It's like a shotgun that is crazy mad and wants the world to lnow.
This is simply the most gorgeous and great soundin drum set I've ever touched.

Quality outweighs the price. I needed a less boomy kit and the smaller depth of the fast pack shells is just what the doctor ordered. I’ve been able to get great tones out of the factory heads which excites me for new skins in the future. Also, I’m not a huge fan of steel snares....but that tomahawk CRACKS! Very pleasantly surprised. If you’re playing rock/metal or you just need that POP, it’s got that pop. Lastly, THAT VENEER THOOOOOUGH!! I got the ultramarine gloss and these things are GORGEOUS! I still blush a little every time I see them.

These are some nice drums. I purchased the Redwood burst for my son. They have a beautiful finish and are built to last. The steel snare sounds good once you tame it. The toms have very musical sound, and the kick always sounds like it's miked (Evans emad heads). I like the hanging toms because my son is 9 and the toms are easy to adjust. I would recommend this set wholeheartedly.

This kit is awesome! I own 3 mapex kits and this one is great! The factory heads weren’t bad but after I got the kit I put Evans EC2 on the toms, emad on the kick and an HD dry on the snare and this kit sounds great! For the price point you can’t go wrong!

Post tuning out of the box playing the drums sound great. Especially the bass drum. Threw a blanket in there and it’s awesome. I am going to get new heads to achieve my desired sound though I am sure I will be more than pleased. The sizes allow the toms to be arranged in such a way that it is a incredibly easy to execute fills. Something very important for me as I am a black/death metal drummer who is running at a high speed. The finish of the drum set is also incredible. Would recommend

I would recommend this kit for intermediate players to pro level. I have an sjc, dw collector, and 3 mapex kits now. My saturn v, pro m , and my armory now.

Received drum kit in perfect condition! The details in the wood grain are impeccable. The gloss finish is literally the icing on the cake. Tomahawk snare has a fresh crack sound with the factory 2ply RemoAmbassador drum head. The hardware is heavy duty. Historically, we usually purchase DW or Tama drums. This Mapex has several authentic features that contributes the quality of this drum kit. I would highly recommend kit.

Like many other out there , I was skeptical about Mapex for years , then I decided to buy a drum set from Mapex and I felt like a kid in a candy store the set It is simple beautiful. The only thing that should have been cleared about the assembly is that you need to buy a heavy duty stands for the cymbals to attached the toms other than that it's just a awesome drum set

This kit is amazing, the combination of Maple/Birch sounds great and responds as you’d expect a punchy kit. Great for recording too, planning touring the east coast with this and so far I love it. Looks way more expensive that most kits out there. Overall this is probably the best value for money you get at this price point!

I don't just love it; I'm in love with it. The finish is gorgeous and looks way beyond the price. A quick note; the Purple Haze Satin will look different than the pictures depending the temperature of the light in your room. The purple will not be as prominent. The sound is amazing and like the finish is something you would expect from more expensive drums. They tune with ease and require little dampening if any. The customer service from AMS was exemplary.

First off, I got the Black Dawn kit and damn it looks good. Came in 3 boxes. All packed very nicely no scratches or lose items. 3 of the toms had skins on already. I had to put skins on the 16 inch floor tom and the kick drum. The skins you get or Remo and should last a couple of months. The Snare is a beast. If you play hard rock or metal you'll love it. Nice and loud with a good crack, and rim shoots sound so good. Coming from my other kit a Tama Starclassic maple. I'm very impressed by the sound, and will be using this kit for studio and live shows going forward.
