I have a Martin D 28 the D 16 RGT has the same tone as the 28 but at a very nice price for this guitar. I have a lot of friends that play music and have played my D16 and say it is a well nice sounding guitar . I highly recommend this guitar to anyone who wants a affordable guitar at this price

Product Review
this d16rgt is more than i had hoped for really im serious this guitar is awesome i purchased a d35 last year from ams and now the d16rgt and since i got the d16 i havent played the d35. i love my d35 but this new guitar is just unreal i almost bought a d18 and read a review on the d16 rgt rosewood and thats why i decided on the rgt. its not as pretty as the d35 but i just cant believe the sound of this thing for 1500. i dont know about the d16 hog back and sides but the rosewood is a sure thing if your lookin for that all around bossy sound that martins seem to have mastered this guitar will not dissappoint you. i promise. i put a primevibe on my d35 about 50 hrs. out of the 100 hr. recommened time. and it did pull some bass out of the guitar. but it also heated the top and cracked my new guitar. primevibe would not fix the guitar so my warranty did. even after using a seasoner something to alter the age of the top martin still stood behind their product and repaired it.

WORTH TWICE THE MONEY (DON'T TELL MARTIN)

Product Review
Martin wanted to make a more affordable guitar and they have done that. They also have made a guitar that sounds better than any Martin I have ever heard. Well worth the money and it looks great too.
Great quality
Yes, the neck is great for small hands.
Sound is great for my flat picking.
Martin's finish always looks good or they don't leave the factory.
Didn't do a comparison but knew Martin was honest and had a good warrentee.
Suits me

Phenomenal, Outstanding!

Your general opinion of this product.
This guitar is superb in every way. The finish was so well done I had to insist that the guitar shop call the Martin rep and assure me it was real rosewood and not a laminate. It is REAL rosewood. Stunning! Only reason I purchased locally instead of from AMS this time was because I had a Gibson to trade in. But AMS was always my main source, fantastic service and prices.
I could not find a single flaw anywhere. If you read my other guitar reviews, I am tough when it comes to quality. I have high expectations and most guitars fall short. But not this baby! 100% all the way! Not a fault anywhere.
Neck, balance, fingerboard, bridge, string height could not be any better. Feels like an old friend right from day one. I am in love! (sorry wife...but I'm sure you'll understand...)
Martin tone all the way! I have an HD 35 which is very deep sounding. I wanted something a bit brighter, and this is perfect. Great for all around gigging. Not too deep, not too bright. Just perfect as a main all around axe.
Absolutely perfect
Finish was so perfect I thought the guitar was plastic or laminated. The rosewood was finished so good that even the salesman had to double check. I made them call Martin while I was there to prove it was real wood, that's how superb the finish was. Unbelieveable, but perfect! I then called my nephew who works there and dhe said, "yes it is real rosewood". You have to see to believe.
Probably will outlive me. I live near the Martin factory, and have relatives working there. I own a Martin and several Taylors, and I think this one tops them all.

Your general opinion of this product.
I was looking for an acoustic to just mess around with. This guitar is the ticket.
Absolutely well made. Attention to detail if obvious.
Sounds good. Smooth playing.
This is my first foray into acoustic guitars that cost over a couple of hundred dollars. I didn't know for sure what to expect, but I am impressed.
Great.
Flawless
Rather new purchase. But just based on apparent quality I expect a long life.

Product is made very well and is more dependable than all other products in the same price range.
This product gets even better with time and will still be around when I'm gone. After all,it's a Martin, and built to last.
Your general opinion of this product.
It is my opinion that this product can't be beat. It'top of the line and nothing but superb from headstock to tailend.
It feels as though it melts into my hands and has the best neck action of any guitar I've played.
It has all the sounds and tones that a good quality guitar should have....it's the best of the best!!!
SUPERB.
The action was as though I had found my best friend. It's so easy to play and keeps gettin better..

Beautifully made. Perfect out of the case.
Have only had it for a few weeks.
Your general opinion of this product.
Great looks. Great, rich sound. Louder than I expected.
Plays easy and fast.
Sound was full and rich. Bass was extremely punchy.
Looks great. Not too flashy, but not too plain.
I gave this four stars due to action of the high strings. I have to really dig in the strings to get a strong treble sound.

Good value Martin guitar!

Very well made.....
too soon to tell.. but its a Martin!
Your general opinion of this product.
Owned numerous acoustic guitars.. and recently sold my Martin D-41 Special to free up some $$ to help pay bills... Decided within a month I was missing that Martin tone, but didn't want to buy something as expensive... also didn't want as much "bling" on my guitar... The D-16RGT is closer to the minimalistic Martin solid-wood guitar... but with the same great Martin tone. I don't like the bright white binding on the fretboard.... too bright... what was Martin thinking? The action on this guitar is fantastic!! I can create bar chords up and down the neck... no problem,.. and it's great for finger style....bends, pull-offs, slides...
Fast,...fast.... fast. The modified low oval neck is fantastic.... my D-41 Special had a Modified V neck... this is better in my opinion.
*balanced* & *snappy / punchy*.... some of the Martins have a booming bass... this is more balanced, but is very punchy when you dig into it.. which is actually what I prefer.. It's still kind of "tight", and I'm thinking it will continue to open up with playing.
Very nice finish... I created two tiny dings on the soundboard finish when I was customizing the guitar..... no problem... I've just put my signature on it.

Great Buy as a Scratch & Dent
By: Steven
Submitted: 8/7/2011
Other than the flaw I got the discount for, it's a MARTIN through & through.
I expect this to hold up like any Martin. Forever, if not longer.
Your general opinion of this product.
Great guitar. Prefer bone saddle & lower action, so I'm getting that taken care of. B Stock... small bubble in finish on top, two gigs later, my scratches on pickguard were more noticable. So $850 for a $1250 street price guitar was a GREAT DEAL, even with another $125 for new saddle & setup. Thanks AMS.
Obviously a Martin. Not quite as good as an HD-28, but what is?
Again, obviously a Martin. Not quite as good as an HD-28, but what is?
Other than the small bubble that saved me $400, perfect.
A bit high for me, and a few others I know that play leads. But that was easily fixed when I got saddle upgraded to compensated bone.

The Martin craftsmanship is unparalleled. Very well made and of course they are dependable.
I just got it but i own other Martin guitars and they just get better with age as I know this one will.
Your general opinion of this product.
The sound of this Martin is amazing. Plays like the D 28 but for a much better price. I can't stop playing it!
The guitar plays smooth. The neck is not to big which is perfect for my small hands.
Warm and punchy. This baby has boom.
A work of art. Beautiful. I love the gloss on the front.
For me the guitar was perfect out of the box. The action is perfect. It's a Martin. Need i say more. T

Top Notch Guitar
By: Bill from Wisconsin
Submitted: 2/24/2010
Looks great, well made. Very smooth around all the edges, and the neck is perfectly smooth.
I have owned this for a short while, but I do not forsee any problems. Very well built guitar.
Your general opinion of this product.
This is a top notch guitar at a great price!!!
The neck fits my hands perfectly, easy to change chords without a problem. Left hand did not cramp up after playing for 4.5 hours after getting it.
As stated above, perfect. It has that Martin boominess, but I was surprised and how the higher tones stood out. Much brighter than I had expected.
Spot on perfect. One minor flaw, there was a small mark on the bottom side of the guitar. Looks like when put into the case, maybe got marked. But it is so minor, that it was not a big deal for me.
Out of the box was perfect for me. I have heard other needed the action lowered, but I did not.

Very well made.
A couple years of playing most days including may days all day has only made the guitar sound better.
Your general opinion of this product.
I have own this guitar since 2007, and the sound keeps getting better. I mostly play Bluegrass/fiddle tunes but blues/rock sound excellant on this guitar as well.
Guitar feels swift! It is comfortable and nimble.
With med 92/8 strings it has bright ringing highs, and booming basses. This guitar will sound out next to a banjo, or fiddle, or mandolin.
I bought it off a shelf and had the owner set the action as I liked it.

I believe this product to be made well....it is a Martin.
Have only had this guitar for a short while, but I would expect it to stand up over time as a Martin guitar will.
Your general opinion of this product.
I researched several guitars (Gibson, Taylor, Takamine) before deciding on the Martin D16RGT. I couldn't be more pleased. The guitar looks great, sounds great, and is more than worth the price.
The guitar has a great feel to it. I have a medium sized hand and the neck is very comfortable.
Guitar has a nice smooth rich tone to it. I am very impressed with how much sound comes from the sound hole.
The gloss top actually looked better than I expected.
The action out of the box was just slightly a little high for me. This is just a personal preference (nothing at all wrong with action) and is easily changed by local guitar shop for your preferred action.

Your general opinion of this product.
I read tons of reviews before I bought this guitar. out of the box it was very nice. I took it to a luthier for a set up and to get the saddle replaced for bone. I also installed bone bridge pins. This guitar is an amazing instrument!! if it had a gloss back and sides it wouls be a D 28.. best Martin for the money
Very easy to play. action out of the box was good... after a set up its great
very balanced
perfect

Its a martin- I have never seen one that wasn't built well..
Only had 2 weeks, but if you treat it right it will last a long time.
Your general opinion of this product.
overall this guitar rocks, it rivals many more expensive guitars. After some upgrades it is for me the perfect guitar and will be with me for a long time. Will it sound like a d-28? NO if you want d-28 you need to buy one, but the tone,, playability, and volume will definitley keep up with the big boys! FOr this price you will not go wrong.
Neck is awesome - very fast neck, fits my hands just right.
TOne out of the box is great. Very balanced tone. I upgraded to a bone saddle and wow! rivals some HD-28'S. NO KIDDING~
I cant see one flaw in the finish, if i was martin i would put a full gloss job on it though- the satin finish is annoying when recording.
action out of the box was high for my liking, but action is such a personal thing- i had it lowered and i cant ask for anything more.

Your general opinion of this product.
I demo'ed D-28, D-18, D-16, and D-16R. The D-16R was the best sounding of the four, hands down. It looks great, with the white border on the black fingerboard. The pick guard is tortise, which IMHO looks better than the black
My only complaint is the set-up from the factory. The nut is so high, playing a F chord is difficult and the saddle is on the high side too. I guess I was expecting a better setup job than that on my 1992 $300 Washburn
