These headphones sounded WAY better than my expectations! As someone who mixes on Beyerdynamic DT 880s as well as composes/produces with VModa M-100 Master, the NDH20 BLEW-me-AWAY. The best way I can sum this up is: They sound like studio monitors in your ear, not like headphones. Super Awesome! On mix references where I would make EQ and placement choices in the NDH20 only, placement was 99% just how I heard it in studio monitors, and EQ-ing was around 93% the same, with only a few times where upper mids needed to be adjusted.

I’ve used a few studio staples in the past and still have access to most, ATH M50, DT770, HD280. Decided to set up my own “B” room as the main room is getting more and more use and wanted something I could trust to mix on any time of the day in an untreated smaller room.
These absolutely nailed that bill... image wise I do in fact feel more like I’m sitting in front of monitors than I usually do in the other studio headphones. But more impressive is how not hyped they are in any direction. It makes casual listening less exciting but it makes purposeful listening far more worthwhile. I can actually hear separation between the kick and bass, they may sound “dark” but I think that just actually means flat. If you can make something sound right in these then once you go back to monitors you just think “wow, nailed it”.
I also happen to like that the cord is on the right... as a guitar player I find that I’m not fussing with the cord tangle as much because it’s not crossing over my body to get to my left ear. Incredibly well made as well, comfortable enough to wear for hours and even lay down with. Not super heavy though they are milled aluminum like an apple product. Expensive yes, but less expensive than treating a tough room and getting great monitors.

I reviewed this headphone for my YouTube review channel. This headphone is robust in build, but otherwise has no exceptional abilities whatsoever. It has a very narrow soundstage, below-average detail retrieval, and a rather veiled sound signature. I've read so many positive reviews for this headphone that I initially thought I had a faulty unit. I returned it, and got an other brand new pair from a different reseller. There was no difference in sound quality from what I recalled from the first pair.
I did A/B tests with the NDH20, and compared to far cheaper products, and the NDH20 always underperformed in nearly every meaningful respect.
Those who give positive reviews for this headphone have never actually done A/B comparisons with alternatives, and have not critically examined Neumann's claims for this product. Indeed, the vast majority of the time reviewers for this headphone make grandiose and vague statements about the performance without pointing to any specifics. That is a telltale sign that the reviewers are not objectively stating what they heard, but instead promoting their own subjective sound preferences.
The bottom line, as I outlined in several videos comparing this product to others, is that the NDH20 is NOT neutral. It is not clear or detailed. It does not have wide soundstage. If you want neutral headphones, I suggest you look to the Avantone Planar, Ollo S4X, or Shure SRH1540.

Steep in price? Not really. Think of it as an investment and a gift to yourself that will just keep giving. Comfortable, professional, clarity and sleek in design. I've tried out several closed back headphones in the past and these beat others by a long shot. Really happy with my purchase

I've owned and used a lot of headphones, these are some of the finest and most razor accurate non-colored sounding headphones I've ever used. Very comfortable to boot. Extremely nice fit, finish, and materials. Highly recommended. Worth every penny.

The look and feel of the HD20 are premium, they feel sturdy and by far are the best built headphones I’ve owned, They are a little on the heavy side but nothing you can’t get use to over time. The sound quality is nicely balanced, with deep lows and crisp Mid’s and hi’s. There are on the pricey side but you get what you pay for, a build to last headphone

So happy the American musical went above and beyond for me , I ordered 2 pair of the Neumann NDH20’s. I blew out a pair and called customer service, right away the sent me a return label and a new pair with in 48hrs , I was impressed and so great full. The representative was compassionate and showed so much concern. I felt like a high valued customer and would recommend American music to all my friends and associates.

My pair of sennheiser headphones went out after about 10 years so I upgraded to these. They come with an extension cable and 1/8” to 1/4” adapter. It also has a microfiber carrying bag. All were nice surprises. I have used them on several sessions for monitoring and for checking my mixes. 10/10

These headphones are some of the most true-to-life units I’ve ever heard. Very nice, full low end extension that stays consistent without applying “pressure,” to the outside of the cans. By this, I mean that they create a firm but comfortable seal around your ear that allows full range propagation.
All this said, the title of this review is accuracy is KEY! Meaning, what goes in is what comes out. I’m finding that where I’m spending more time mixing content for live streams these days, I can trust that the result that comes out of these can translate very reliably.

These take a little adjustment
as they are not as hyped in the low
& mid frequencies as most headphones.
They are like being in a room with
Neumann monitors. Be aware
these NDH 20 Headphones will
need a very good headphone amp
to drive the impedance required for
the best performance & detail you are
after, but you will then be able to pick
out things in the depth of a mix or details when making mixing, even
tracking decisions setting up a signal
chain for the right amount of EQ & compression or headphone mix if you are all plugins/monitor/artist mix.
Mixing with these will keep you honest
& give you a better end result, although
using them & checking your work on
monitors is the paramount workflow.
I also love these for amps with headphone outs & my keyboard headphone jack for practice is the best,
then I don’t overuse effects, just the right touch as accuracy is their forte.

So I purchased these Neumann headphones thinking they were gonna knock my socks off. They look amazing but the sound is an acquired taste. They sound a little too flat for my taste. They are also very low in volume.

I found the ndh 20 to manipulate my music collection into a well balanced and flat signature. I could listen to this set at very high volumes with no distortion. Comfort was very nice with just a slight clamp force I could wear these for 6 hour sessions with ease. One of my favorite aspects of these cans was the ability to bring out the resolution in anything I threw at it. Very impressive set. Very unique.

Man! what could I not say! One good thing about these headphone it’s flat response.with a flat response you can eliminate the problem with room acoustics, because it goes straight to your ear and not using the room. These headphone don’t give you ear fatigue. Well built made of aluminum, memory foam on the ear pads and strong rubber over your head. Comes with one curled cable and one flat cable both are long enough. The only thing it would’ve been nice if it came with a hard case to travel.
