I had a laptop and several controllers that I use with it, which is essentially a sidecar rig in my studio. I use this to sequence other machines via Ableton Live (Live's Link feature is amazing for things like this, as everything shares a central clock when Link is implemented properly), use Live as a realtime sampler alongside my primary DAW rig, etc.
Before this, I had a small endtable and a synth stand (X-style) on which I would put a tray, and then various risers which were essentially old DJ stands. In order to move this and access some of the machines behind it, I would have to slowly undo all cabling and move everything a bit at a time until I could squeeze into the space behind it.
Now I have a power strip strapped to one of the legs on this, which I simply unplug and then move everything at once. It takes about 1 min to access things behind this where it used to take 10-20 mins just to check a fan or ensure that a UPS was functioning properly.
Due to the number of parts, this isn't really ideal for road use until you have roadies/staff to help set things up before the gig. However due to the number of parts and build quality, by the time you have staff to help the band or performer you're going to be buying much better hardware than this.
Which isn't to say this is bad! Just buy a tool for the right use, and you'll be happy with...I know I am.

Love the stand for it's solid feel when set up and the shelf is great for certain gear. You don't have to use it as it just sets on top tier and can easily be left at home.
Only issue I have is that the microphone arm is a bit weak and doesn't deal well with NY sort of weight, which is disappointing considering that's a big part of the reason I bought this.
If you mod it out a bit so it has a better grip, it's passable.

Just ordered and received one. It came with no instructions on setup, and even after assembly, the top shelf that's supposed to hold the laptop is too small for anything but the 3 tallest heights. You can't angle the top support bars inwards either because they become non-perpendicular when angled down towards the user. For a short person like myself, who wants to use this primarily for recording sessions likely sitting down, I'm pretty disappointed in this product. If the top support bars adjusted for the angle correctly it would be fine, but this is a severe usability issue.

System is a lot sturdier than it looks, yet light enough to carry around easily to each venue that I work at. This was a great 1st investment since the tables provided at each different venue always were different and difficult to conform to every need each event.

i am first impressed and grateful to American Musical for replacing my damaged (in shipment) stand. When I received my replacement, I was at first a bit overwhelmed by the size...it's got a large, deep keyboard bed. But I realized (with a piece of shelf/wood, I will have space for an fx pedal, even some of my AC adapters, etc...to make good use. I am playing a 25-key Korg Taktile, so i'm pretty sure they expect a larger, deeper, beefier keyboard. But the shelf might need a little reinforcement...not that it's not sturdy, it lays on top the bars...but the lip of the shelf isn't very high, and makes me worry about my Merish sliding off with a good bump. But I wanted a vertical, compact stand for my solo rig, and i'll even get to hang a tambourine off the brace.
