I’ve owned several Orange Heads. I’ve since been away from playing for a few years and decided to start light. I’ve been pleasantly surprised with this little “terror.” Plenty loud enough to play around the house, and will definitely shake walls playing through a decent cab. Highly recommend, quality product, very fast shipping as well!

Don't let the size of this head fool you. It is more than capable of handling practically any speaker cabinet that you can plug up to it. It has great, crunchy distortion and cleans up nicely, too. This is my first Orange amp, and I'm sure to add more of their products to my gear collection!

Micro Dark is loud for its size and has that signature Orange tone with plenty of gain. Cleans up nicely with the gain at 9 o clock. The effects loop is great for chorus and delay pedals. Add a Tube Screamer in front for extra chugs. Mine is paired with the Randall 35 watt mini cab and it's awesome!

Can Replace Bigger Amps for Recording
By: Scott Bryson

I've owned both amp stacks, even 200 W Marshall or 300 W Fender tube heads. Along with Hendrix's same pedals & Strat.
Never had it so easy to get perfect sustain and feedback, with or without external pedals. Can dial in dozens of tones with various controls.
Would take this into recording sessions over the bigger uncles without hesitation, paired with the Orange Micro Terror 8" bottom.
It's cute & reminds me of my vintage 50 W Orange stack, only many more tones!

I love this Dark! It gives me great tones from blues to chugging metal. It’s got a diverse range. I just played out of my old tube amp for the first time and I plain and simple just didn’t feel at home. Everything felt wrong. The Orange is everything I ever wanted and pumping out of a PPC112, it’s awesome!!! Thank you Orange and AMS!!! Nailed it again!

I recently sold a Mesa Mark III but still wanted something with gain to jam at home. I picked this thing up on a whim and was incredibly surprised. Lots of gain, but it really shines with a boost in front. I put it through my Bogner 4x12 and it is LOUD. I see people complaining about the fx loop noise. I noticed it as well, but after changing the tube to a random (most likely a Mesa) 12ax7 I had laying around, it’s now super clean. It would be nice to have more eq options but unless your shooting for a VERY specific tone, the onboard shape knob works well.

My wife and kids bought this for me as a Christmas gift. I giggled when I saw it honestly. It is tiny. I plugged it into a 8ohm Randall 4x12 cabinet, and I was blown away. I can go from Crystal clean to down right dirty with the turn of a knob. This micro amp rocks hard and loud. I was pleasantly surprised, my jaw dropped. My daughter came into my guitar room and was as blown away as I was. Gotta hand it to Orange, another great amp. Also a great company to buy from, American Musical Supply. It arrived on time in great shape. Not one con at all, go get one.

I bought this as a little practice amp that I can use primarily as a clean pedal platform at home for late night playing, and it works fantastic for this. Better than I'd hoped. It's very, very loud, so I used an EQ pedal in the FX loop with the level slider all the way down. The Orange dirt sound isn't totally my thing but I do like to mess around with it now and then, and this thing scratches that itch without having to spend a bunch of money on a bigger Orange head. Quite surprised at how great this is. I've tried some other solid state clean pedal platform solutions, and this Micro Dark has probably been the best of them. For context, I hit it with a Friedman BE-OD, Wampler Pantheon, & Spark Booster and all sound just as they are intended to sound. It's a great amp for very little money for sure!

I was looking at some bedroom stuff for practice and came upon the Orange micro series. So I started reading about it. Also read tons of reviews. After reading about it,I decided to get the micro dark, instead of the micro terror. I have a 30w cab with a Celestion speaker and I was floored. I couldn't believe it, the sound was incredible, and for only having 20w, this thing can definitely hit some gigs and smaller venues. It's crazy small, plenty loud, and super compact, what more do ya want? I love me some Orange micro dark babay yea, yea, yea.????????

I own a Fryette Deliverance D-120, EVH Black Stealth 50, Rockerverb 50, Dual Rec Rev F, and several others. I'm not bragging I promise! I'm telling you that because I spent less than $160 on this unit connected to a Boss Waza Tube Expander, and holy hell! (Pun intended) this little half solid state micro nano whatever you want to call it thing is incredible!
Dollar for dollar the best amp I've ever owned! With the tube expander I can gig with this thing! Again it was sub $160!
I don't know how orange did it but I don't care. This has to be in your arsenal.

Brutal gain.
Yes, it gets noisy with the gain up...but easily tamed with a noise gate in the fx loop. You might want to try different tubes, like a 12AY7 or 12AT7 and put an outboard overdrive in front of it to go from the mild side of crunchy to seriously hairy.
I've paired it with the Randall RG8 ( available here at AMS)

I really enjoy playing on this little head. I built a cab and wanted something that was going to give me a different sound than my Blues jr. This little thing delivers.
The preamp tube has a nice warm sound, and when you turn up the gain, it gets dirty. The shape knob provides a pretty versatile range of tone. And, it’s loud.
Overall, I’m really pleased with the head.

Product Review
I have to say, I was skeptical, even after all the good reviews, but I am happy to say that I WAS WRONG! This tiny lunchbox absolutely KILLS it. It sounds amazing.
I mostly play doom metal, so again, I was skeptical, but straight from the amp, it is capable of producing some very sludgey doom tones. The shaping knob lets you dial in the right amount of mids. With a fuzz pedal...fagetabowit! Really tickles my Electric Wizard funny bone.
Let's talk about volume. This thing is LOUD. Let me say that again. This little box is F@CKING LOUD! I have it hooked to a Beringer BG412S 400W 4x12, and with the gain maxxed out, I can't get before a good solid 6 on the volume before the cab starts sputtering and the speakers start cutting out. It will roast this cab and ring your ears. I am 100% confident that you could drive a FULL STACK with the Micro Dark. No problem at all.
The effects loop is also a god send. Running an Afterneath, the reverb stays nice and clean. My delays are crisp and not lost in the sludge. I'm using a Zoom GX3N and the Micro Dark sounds excellent even outside all your metal tones. I have been doing some "shoe gaze" type jams, and the amp loves a clean tone just as much as it loves SLUDGE.
Bottom line...I have NOTHING bad to say about this amp. For the price, or even for much more, you will not get a better unit. The tube preamp section has a beautiful full tone that you won't find ANYWHERE else for less than $200.
My 2 cents.
12/10

Its loud. Its small. Its extremely heavy.
Seriously though, it has extreme amounts of gain, which carries with it quite a bit of fuzz and fluff but its not something an overdrive cant handle if you want it tighter.
Its very very loud for its size.....deceivingly loud in fact.
There is some noise after you start going into the high gain realms, keep this in mind if you are play with it live. I dont see it as something that a gate cant fix if youre not too picky.

Bought for a recording project as in inexpensive way to add another amp tone. Great variety of tones with simple controls, high gain is even better with a TS9 or clean boost. Clean is surprisingly good with a little verb. Sounds surprisingly huge through my Thiele cab as well. Only small grippe is I’d be okay with it being slightly larger and using a standard power cable with the supply added internally, but it’s a minor annoyance and not worth taking away from the great sound.

The future of Amp Technology
By: Jace
Submitted: 3/31/2020
Product Review
I bought the Micro Dark as a back up amp to my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I assumed the headroom would be small, but would be able to give me the right tone considering the reputation of Orange amps. I must say, the hybrid technology and of solid state/valve is amazing. I am achieving the sound and of clean and dirty, to hard and Metal. I usually keep the drive somewhat down and rely on my pedals to do the work, but when I first plugged in, I had a jam session with my drummer and another guitarist; they were both blown away by the tone and presence of this lunchbox sized head. I played through the PPC 112. I put a mic in front of the cab for extra headroom, and I barely had to turn up the channel. I sent my reverbs and delays into the buffered FX loop and this worked perfectly fine. If you’re recording, playing small to mid sized venues, this amp will do the trick. It offers great tone and you will most likely have a mic in front of whatever you use anyway. This head and a small cab (112 or 212 preferred) is a light way to travel without breaking your back and still sounding like a pro. Cheers!

So a few years back I had a very little budget but still wanted a small, low wattage amp with a great warm, tube tone. I saw a review on you tube of an Orange Micro Terror playing through a 4x12. It sounded incredible. Like a straight up All Tube amp. I eventually upgraded to a an Orange OR15. Well fast forward 6 years and I’m in the same situation again. This time I wanted a touch more gain so I chose the Orange Micro Dark Terror. And again I wasn’t let down. I got a killer tone at a killer price. Not to mention, with such a great payment plan, I was able to pick up an equally incredible guitar. You want great tone for a low price, ORANGE Micro Terror Series!

I've had this amp head before, but sadly was stolen. Have it once more and couldn't be happier! For it's size, pairing it with a good cab produces amazing results. It's loud, proud, and even though this is the "high gain" model, it produces clean tones better than most clean amps I've used before. The effects loop is a super nice touch, and the headphone jack is nice for some at home practice. I've had quite a number of people shocked that the tone and presence of my sound comes from such a small thing. I definitely recommend it, and it even fits in my pedalboard bag!

Let’s be realistic and start with what this amp isn’t. It’s not a boutique amp and it’s not expensive. It’s not a meant to compete with amps that have tube power sections so you won’t need to spend twice as this amp cost to re-tube a costlier amp. So far, so good.
Now what this amp is. It’s a super affordable amp that sounds great. A simple single channel amp that goes from clean to high gain and does both well. I’ve read issues about the effects loop but I haven’t had a problem. The headphone out is handy when you need to be quiet. Slick little unit.
The only issues for me so far are the shape control is a bit limiting and the volume potentiometer isn’t as linear as I’d like. It has a volume jump at the beginning of it’s range that can be annoying at times. Not deal breakers at all.
All things considered for under $200 you can’t go wrong. It’s a handy little tool for home practice and has enough umph for rehearsal. Plus it looks kind of cool in my cave. Glad I bought one.

Love it! It has no problem powering my (2) Jet City 1X12 cabs. For those of you that think this amp sounds thin, etc. just place an eq pedal out front or in the effects loop and you should be good to go. Keep in mind that wah pedals, distortion and boost pedals should go into front input jack. I bought mine from a local music store only because they had it in stock and I was able to compare it with the Micro Terror and the Ibanez TSA15 combo. The TSA15 is a nice amp don't get me wrong. I played it the longest, but for 1/3 of the price, I chose the Micro Dark. FYI - the input jack is on the right side which is opposite from most amps so be careful not to plug your guitar into the headphone jack. The blue power LED is a nice touch also. Try one! I was very impressed. ROCK ON ORANGE!!!

I heard so much about this little bad boy & when I bought it I was not disappointed.. this thing is LOUD! it can crank! I paired it up with an old Marshall 4x12 and its loud enough to gig with. The effects loop works great I use a reverb pedal for a little depth but other than that the tone is awesome. This thing is pretty basic - which is a good thing in my opinion! only 3 knobs volume tone & gain and nothing else. Its idiot proof to use and has great high gain sounds which I use for hard Rock / Metal. Def recommend it as a practice amp or even a small giging amp if paired up with a 2x12 or 4x12

Perfect for recording studio and small venues. No mini head comes close to the sound you get from this little monster. For $189 you cant beat it.
