The pioneer ddj400, is a great controller especially for a beginner. This was my introduction to the world of mixing, and I am not disappointed. All the sliders and faders are sturdy and do not feel cheap. It's also to get up and running and mixing on in no time. I've had it for a few months and I am satisfied with it. There are also a lot of videos and tutorials for this product , so that makes it easier to get going if you get lost on your own.

I loved the controls on this controller . It felt great the larger jog wheel for the size it great for scratching . My only issue was I didn’t wanna use the software it suggested and it due to the way you had to set up your external in Fat . Just was a pain in that aspect.

Pros: Lightweight - not as heavy as my DDJSX3, many features that more expensive units have, easy navigation - everything is placed for ease of use, Rekordbox basic included which I like better than Serrato Pro, stream music and mix. Quick setup at the venue.
Cons: No power adapter, runs strictly off USB cable. RCA audio plugs - make sure you get high quality RCA plugs to connect to outside sources. I use RCA to 1/4" plugs to connect to my Peavy speakers that cost me $36.00. I used a cheaper brand and the sound was noticeably inferior. The mic input is 1/4" which caused me to purchase a different mic cord but no big deal.
This unit is great for beginners to learn how to mix using a controller. I have also used it as a backup to my primary system for a smaller party. Will be fine if used for a bigger party, but ensure you test before you decide if it will fit your needs for a particular venue.
The optional bag is nice, but expensive for what you get. If you like security and safety, invest in the hard case. There is not one specific to this unit, but there are some available where this unit will fit into nicely. Taking the lack of a dedicate power source out of the equation, this unit has slightly exceeded my expectations. I would have given it 5 stars if the unit has a dedicated power source and not the USB as its power source. I've had this unit a little over a month and have used it at 2 backyard parties. This provided me enough of the resources from the DDJSX-3 that were not required for this type of venue/party.

This controller completely mimics a pair of pioneer nexus cdjs. Pioneer was really aiming to allow beginners or even professional djs a taste of cdjs at home for those that can't afford them or like a mobile controller that allow you to hone your skills away from the club. The layout of the faders, buttons, and knobs are very similar and mimic a two player, one mixer setup. In addition, the board does with a rekordbox 5 license, which would be half the price of this controller if sold separately! Great deal! I've owned a Numark platinum, XDJ-RR, DDJ-1000, and two DDJ-400s, one in black and silver, and I've always come back to the 400 due to its portability and simple plug and play setup!

I’m a complete newbie so I didn’t want to invest so much money into equipment. I tried to research and compare but since the internet has TOO MUCH information, I just went with my gut and bought this. Best. Decision. Ever. I can’t believe all the features for the cost of the controller. Albeit, I’m fairly new to all this, But it has been user friendly and easy for me to pick up on! Highly recommend for anyone who wants to play but not break the bank!

First let me say that all Pioneer products are high quality, no mater the price range... I've been a pioneer dj user for over 20 years (yes, i use the first cdj's)
This DDJ-400 is a budget, entry-mid level controller loaded with features, and with the $250 price tag is a bargain.
This controller comes bundled with Rekordbox, so out of the box all you need is a headphone, a computer and a speaker to start mixing.
The DDJ-400 is well built, faders are strong, knobs are quality inherited from the DJM series and the buttons and pads are respondent and quality.
Overall an excelent product, has touch sensitive platter, efx, pad, loops, and more.

Had this for more than a week and I can say that for the price and payment plans that his given from this site is well worth it. The software itself is included with 400 compared to sb3 you have to pay for. The only thing I wish I was able to have more decks but it's okay because this is just controller that can help you get better. This not type of controller you can play at small event but maybe at house parties.

The DDJ400 is the perfect setup if you plan to go pro with your DJ career. Most of the larger venues want you to play on their CDJ setup hindering you from using the old serato and laptop setup. The DDJs get you that rekordbox experience without paying the high dollar price for the CDJs. Same concept but much easier on the wallet.
The ease of use with this controller is quick and easy, just plug it in and you're ready to go. Its lightweight and compact and easy to carry with you to plug in and start up instantly.
I definitely recommend this product whether you're a seasoned DJ or just starting out.

There's really not a better deal than this for a DJ controller, especially for beginners or for those that need a test environment while their main rig is packed inbetween gigs. I use it in my studio for playing around to test how new transitions between songs go, and then use the more expensive models for gigging.
That said, I could easily do a live set with these. They're fully capable and useful for any DJ out there.

This controller is by far the best suited for beginner to intermediate DJs on the market for the price. For $250, you are left with the options of DDJ-SB3 and RB, BOTH are also great equipment. But I found the DDJ-400 to be EXCEPTIONAL for the price that you are paying. It has functions that are similar to higher end DJ equipment such as the DDJ-1000, or even the XDJ-RR. I think there's more than enough functions on this controller that are perfect for mixing and scratching. The jogwheel has a nice, solid feel to it and I feel there's a certain level of control you have as opposed to the DDJ-SB2. Not to mention the full version of Rekordbox, which is extremely convenient.
Overall, this controller has met every expectation I have had and will recommend this to any DJs that are starting out or just want a portable and efficient controller. Recommended 10/10!
