Product Review
The Roland GAIA is an amazing and oft slept on synthesizer. It has a lot of features and the 3 tone levels really let you flesh out sounds. The includes patches are great and good jump off points for making your own unique sounds. You can save your patches onto a USB drive on on the device itself under "User patch". The keybed on it feels great for a synth at this price point and its build quality is great. The effects on it sound great and you can tweak them to your hearts content. The sound quality it outputs is great and it would make a great addition to any studio setup.

Bought this three months and have been very pleasantly surprised that this is not simply a blast from the past (in imitating the legendary SH-101, which I bought in 1986), but that it actually a substantial, modern synth with lots of interesting and useful musical mechanisms to draw from. It has everything I used on the original SH-101, but adds so much including a wide variety of different base patches, time-based sound artifacts, recording, memory storage and more. And its just really fun to play. No matter what style music you like, there is something really good here for you. Get it, you'll love it.

I recently sold a Studiologic Sledge and bought a Roland Gaia to replace it. At first glance I thought maybe I had made a big mistake, but after unpacking and wiring it up I quickly knew I had made a great choice. It is easy to get around on and has wonderful factory sounds. In addition I purchased a thumb drive that doubled the preset capability. The only downside for me is getting use to a smaller key bed , but that was easily solved by a Midi cable to one of my 88 key instruments.

I wasn't sure I wanted one for some time, but didn't find much else in the market place that could match its polyphony and price point. AMS has a convenient payment plan and I finally pulled the trigger. Wish I hadn't wasted a few years deciding... It's a wonderful synth and the third layer makes all the difference in the world! It will be hard to use other synths without the extra layer after being spoiled by the Gaia's. Another feature I like is that its OSCs have sine waves. Not sure why so many synths these days don't. There are some sounds you just can't make without it. The keybed is firm enough and nicely sensitive and feels good on the fingers. No sharp edges. I'm really blown away by this synth and lose myself for extended periods of time every time I turn it on. Thanks AMS!

This is a wonderful sounding synth and very intuitive to program sounds on. I would have put a five star rating if not for the ongoing issues Roland has with Windows USB drivers. Roland needs to invest some money to address these issues. It effects a number of their products.

Gaia - Affordable Roland Goodness
By: Thunder Keys from PA
Submitted: 2/19/2011
Yes. The general construction is very good; but, like anything else, if you don't treat it well...you'll end up with what you deserve...something that no longer works. The keys are nice, not as fragile as a miniKorg. The sliders and knobs appear to be sturdy enough so far.
Ease of use and the sound of the synth.
Very easy to use out of the box. I did not even look at the manual until a week after I had this. Just wanted to check to see if I missed anything. The controls are easy to use and understand.
The reason I bought this synth is for its sounds. For the money the sounds are very rich.
Very usable out of the box
Yes. Even at the full $699 it is a good value. I lucked out and had a coupon for 20% off, which just sweetened the pot.

Very good build quality, plastic, but good!
Hands on goodness!
You have to know how to use synths to get the most, but that's part of the fun!!
It's virtual analog, but a very good virtual analog.
Coolies. Presets are ok, but you really should go out on your own and experiment.
If you want a synth you can play with all the parameters first hand, this is the one!

Another Roland Classic

This synth has a excellent front control panel and interesting white finish
Plenty of knobs and sliders with NO TINY display in fact there are no menus to drive you crazy, its all hands on and ready to tweak
Absolutely fun to create sounds I have two of these and if I am not playing one I am on the other one this synth is a excellent design by the leader in synth history, Roland.
This synth can do just any sound you can dream of with excellent basses, leads and arpeggios you won't hear from any other instrument.
The keyboard action is typical of synths of the type its not a weighted key piano, if you want that look elsewhere this is a synthesiser.
This synth is a excellent value for the price and years from now will become a valued investment
