I run the gamut of odd musical jobs and it is just so useful to have something with endless capabilities in the palm of your hands (or I guess "end of your sticks"). I am a gigging recording/stage drummer in New York City and often I am in need of atypical/unconventional sounds for the modern repertoire. It helps you stay flexible with the customizable presets; most of my artists now have their own named drum set on my pad. I also help artists record midi parts and let me tell ya, when you can control the feel of a played part with sticks, it is a game changer. Only dislike is having to mess with trigger sensitivity and angle on the pad itself. Seriously can't recommend enough.

First it's so easy to sample. There is enough user presets to have a lot of sounds on hand. Interfaces nicely with my DAW. I have the Roland KT10 pedal so I can play any of my drum software with it. I haven't explored all you can do with it yet but I'll get there.

By far the best sampling pads on the market, Roland never disappoints. Tons of USABLE sounds, plenty of room for samples or long loops, lots of parameters easily programmed for pad sensitivity, effects and pitch. A pleasure to practice with and even better to perform with utilizing all the availability of external triggers. If you want a hybrid kit and want all the sounds you can imagine at your fingertips, this is what you need. I’m not kidding. This is the best and well worth the price.

Straight out of the box the first thing I noticed was that the manual was very small! Combined with YouTube videos, and basic navigation of just a few buttons I had loaded enough samples of material to play a live set! It was refreshing to just have a few screens the power of ease-of-use software, and a base USB load and upload system. Not to mention the technician that I spoke to at MS knew exactly what they were talking about! Dash bravo Rolland, and bravo AMS! Together you have sparked new creativity and me and made jamming affordable again!

I personally use the SPD-SX for studio and live situations and it is a total workhorse! For writing sessions I am able to hook up electric drum pads to the spd-sx and have a fantastic versatile portable kit with real time effects. In live situations I am able to add triggers to my acoustic drums with the spd-sx and have total control of tones and FX. I got the spd-sx about a month ago it has become a must in my work flow. It is super easy to control and has so many features.... I personally love the built in click, sub outputs and live sampling... Here is a cool trick, I us the spd-sx for in live mixing, I will take the kick, snare and toms and rout them from the mixing console out of the FX sends into the trigger inputs of the spd-sx and plug the master out of the spd-sx into a open channel of the mixer to use the internal sounds. This eliminates the need of triggers because I am using mics instead from the console. Also by doing this I can easily mix the acoustic drum channels with the spd-sx channel to achieve a great drum mix. You can also use this method for a FX chain for vocals or instruments with the spd-sx... Its all about experimenting with the roland spd-sx and you will be able open a whole new world to your creations and experiences... Thank you AMS and Roland!!!! This drum pad is the best on the market! The functionality in the simplest form is just astounding! 16GB internal memory also?!? What more can you ask for!!! The SPD SX SE has been serving be well since the day I took it out of the box. From triggering live sounds, to looping samples and controlling DAWs it does everything I ever wanted and so much more.
The provided software makes loading in your own sounds so convenient and easy.
Its been such an amazing addition to an environment I use it in.
If you are looking at the SPDSX SE get it! And get it through American Musical. Such a great retailer for the working musician! Will always purchase from them.
