I ordered this bass after reading the positive reviews and am definitely not disappointed. It looks nice, plays nice, has a great neck feel and has very impressive tone for such a budget friendly instrument. I almost hate to admit it but I prefer this bass over several much more expensive basses I have owned. The tone is smooth and punchy and the pre amp is very responsive. An overall nice bass to play and an incredible value!

I own the 4-string Stingrays by Sterling, so I thought I’d try out the 5-string version. PROS are that the Bass sounds AMAZING, the active EQ is simple enough for beginners and experienced players. CONS are, just like the 4-string Stingray SUBS, the hardware is absolutely horrendous, had to purchase a new bridge because no matter how many times
I took it to a professional tech, it would have severe intonation problems and I would constantly adjust the truss rod just to get the desired setup. Maybe I just got the dud.

I saw this bass in a cover video and I really liked the tone. I was surprised to find out that it was a offering from Stingray. Don’t let the price FOOL YOU!! This bass is very SOLID and does not feel cheap. The tone is on point and I do not feel as if I bought a second-rate bass. Grab one of these!!

I have a Sterling SUB StingRay5 in black and though I had no intention of buying a bass the day I bought it, it spoke to me. It was totally even all over the neck - the notes sang no matter where you played. The punchy traditional StingRay sound is there, even on this budget version. If you're worried that it'll just be junk, even these "cheapo" versions of them are 100% usable as a gigging bass - it's been my number one gigging bass for over three years, and hasn't failed me once - it holds tune, it's been played from temperatures ranging from the 40s to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and has never failed. Worth absolutely every penny. Believe me, I was as shocked as anyone that this thing has turned out to be excellent quality and durability for so long through so many gigs (2020 notwithstanding). GET ONE!

If you want to sound like the late, great Louis Johnson but don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on a bass, this may be just the bass for you. As a matter of fact, if you leave the bass boost alone and play it through a nice pre-amp, you may have a hard time distinguishing between this bass and one seven times pricier. For less than $300, you get the unmistakably distinctive Music Man sound, which is round, meaty and dynamic throughout its range. Excellent

The Good: B string is tight and consistent with the other strings, has that piano string string quality, not at all woofy or flappy.
The not so good: All the pickguard and tuner screws were installed crooked at the factory, obviously doesn't affect playability and is easily fixed, but it still looks sloppy when the heads of the screws aren't centered in the countersinks.
The bad: The tuners are pretty sketchy, one was bent (damaged during shipping) and another had the clover head portion not fully attached to the post resulting in annoying sympathetic rattle when the open E string was played. Luckily, I had a set of Hipshot Ultralites in my parts drawer that I planned on installing anyway so the tuner issues weren't a big deal in my case, but your milage may vary.

For me this bass was a no brainer. I play mainly 4 string, but occasionally when doing a country show I use a 5 string. This bass is just wonderful. After 10 minutes on the bench for a quick setup, the bass now plays really well. And with the active electronics, this bass sounds just amazing. Great lows with no mud and the upper registers are clear as a bell. The build quality is excellent. Nice finish, no sharp frets, everything fits together perfectly. Well worth every dime!!

I have owned Music Man Stingray 5's in the past , I am not by any means saying those basses are NOT worth the money I am however saying that THESE Basses are Incredible . It showed up in perfect condition with a Great Set up already, Nice weight to them , The finish is stunning ( I have the Vintage Sunburst ) the hardware is all top notch and the Tone is Pure Bass Tone . . . I can not think of a single downside to it. Music Man hit it out of the park with these Basses as a Lower Price alternative to their Big Brother ,

I have been playing music for 30 years. I have played some high dollar gear. For this price point this bass is right up there with high dollar basses I have played. Out of the box the action was perfect, the packing was superb. The sounds I can get with the Bass IR's on my Helix are amazing. Sterling knocked it out of the park. I’m usually an Ibanez bass man but my wife told me to get the bass I wanted for my birthday and I wanted to try something new. So after a lot of reviews and a lot of YouTubing several different basses I chose this one. And I have used it several different times at our gigs and have been amazed every time. I have to give this bass 5 stars! Every time I pick it up I’m blown away and I forget That I am playing a bass so affordable from music man. I have owned a music man bongo in the past and a stingray and I have to tell you I can barely hear or feel a difference and I’m a tone freak too.

Great strong sound with amazing tone. The texture on the knobs feel great and make adjustments on fly easy. Very smooth neck as well. Makes playing feel great. It’s a bass you can really grab and just jam out without feeling awkward.

I'm a jazz, R&B bassist. This bass puts out a great punchy sound. Great for thumping/plucking, low bottom playing and solos. This is my 2nd bass, not my main one. There was no way I would pay over $1,000 for another bass. The Sterling Sub StingRay 5 gives me $1,000 sound quality at an affordable price.
