Product Review
I purchased one of these microphones to be a snare mic for recording. I bought it from AMS about 15 years ago, and it still works fantastic. Have used it on the snare drums, toms, guitar cabinets and my vocals. It's worked flawlessly on everything. If you want a good all-around utility Mic this is the way to go. With the people at AMS and their knowledge, there's no reason not to get one!

Best Dynamic Mic
By: Alan Rausch from Eastern Shore of Maryland
Submitted: 10/7/2010
Like the legendary sm series these are rugged, new and old these are never change in sound level or quality.
Rugged, I bought one used online and it had some kind of insect cocoon growing inside, I cleaned it up and I can't tell it from my new ones in sound quality.
Plug n play, little or no eq needed, use on vocals and acoustic instruments.
I always used condensers on stage for live acoustic music, then we started playing noisier and bigger venues, so I started looking at dynamic mics and found that these would work for vocals and instruments. Our guitar player had two sitting around so I started buying more, we now have 9 that we use on stage, 5 vocals and banjo, guitar, mandolin and dobro. The bass player is plugged in. I would not trade these for anything, they have neo magnets which gives them a condenser response and sound. We can actually now turn up the monitors without worrying about feedback. I wish I had started using these years ago. People who have heard our band, came up after the first gig with these and said, you guys never sounded better, what's different? Perfect reproduction of instruments and cutting vocals.

If You can only own one microphone this is the one
By: AMS Customer from USA
Submitted: 2/5/2008
Your general opinion of this product.
QUALITY:
This microphone is extremely well made and should last forever. You could probably use it for a hammer in a pince and it would still work fine.
FEATURES:
I love 57's. The Beta 57A is a defionate step up from the standard. On guitar amps, it is brighter and punchier with a wonderful proximity effect. For hard rock/metal guitar work this mic is awesome. Sounds great on vocals as well. This is a swiss army knife microphone.
EASE OF USE:
Plug it in. Nothing to it. Choose a great preamp/signal chain and you're golkden with this one.
VALUE:
Definately worth the money. Definately worth the additional money to step up from a standard SM 57. GET THIS MIC! Get Five of them!
SOUND:
Punchy if I had to use just one word. As I stated above I love the proximity effect of this mic on a guitar cabinet. The upper midrange is much sweeter than the standard 57, not as extreme. Beautiful presence.

Your general opinion of this product.
QUALITY:
excellent construction, solid, mine have been dropped and still work and not dented.sound is excellent.
FEATURES:
bes feature is the sound. its a dynamic mic.
EASE OF USE:
easy with mic preamp from a mackie mixer or other mic pre
VALUE:
spend the money on these.
SOUND:
sound quality is pro quality especially for guitar cabinets. I recorded several albums with these mics. I had a guy form a music store who stopped by with a pair of regular sm-57's and then a pair fo beta sm-57's. The sm-57 betas are louder and more dynamic than regular sm57's. A couple of inches fform the grille of a guitar cabinet on or off axis gives you instant awesome guitar sound!!! here is an inexpensive way to greatly improve your recordings and works live as well. even through inexpensive mic pre's.

By: Dave Schenck from Portland Oregon. USA
Submitted: 2/5/2008
Your general opinion of this product.
QUALITY:
Very well made and dependable. Hi Q.C. factor. Unless your a gorilla, it will last at least till your great grandson departs this earth. There is no worst feature.
FEATURES:
Very little EQ needed for snare & vocals.
VALUE:
worth the price. Would not pay more because I gots bills ta pay.
SOUND:
Sound is similar to a regular 57 but its brighter and louder thanks to the tight polar pattern.
STYLE:
Rock, bluesy stuff, Trippy stuff.....
MUSIC EXPERIENCE:
Drumming since 1978, recording since 1986.

Puts the lesser 57 to shame.

Submitted: 2/5/2008
Your general opinion of this product.
QUALITY:
5 - Does exactly what it's made to do, and does it well. Mine has been on vocals, snare and guitar amp and I'll be getting another soon.
FEATURES:
5 - Supercardiod pattern is great against feedback from an off-axis monitor setup.
EASE OF USE:
5 - As simple as a dynamic instrument mic should be, plug it in and go. Nothing to mess with, nothing to screw up.
VALUE:
5 - Priced well, compared to the SM57 it's worth the extra money. Hit this mic with a drum stick and you won't have plastic parts sitting on your snare head afterwards.
SOUND:
5 - Could not be happier with it.

OVERALL:
I have several mics. The 57A is the one that I use most.
QUALITY:
Mics don't come more dependable than the Shure 57A. I've seen the mics abused and continue functioning top notch.
EASE OF USE:
These are truly plug and play (er, sing)
VALUE:
For the money, the sound is pretty incredible when compared to mics of thes same price.
SOUND:
The sound quality is virtually unmatched. Shure 57A is a standard.
