Product Review My friend had a GL2 back in the day and ever since, I’ve wanted a Steinberger guitar. So this Spirit by Steinberger is NOT that guitar. Still, I was NOT disappointed. I opened the box during soundcheck at a gig and it was in tune and stayed in tune. It played great out of the box and I didn’t wait the typical 24-48 hours for the guitar to adjust to the environment. The neck is beefy but I have big hands so, that wasn’t an issue. The humbucker pickups sound great. The middle pickup leaves a little to be desired plus, they’re passive pickups. But overall, this little guitar is definitely worth the money. And it should hold me over until I can get my hands on a vintage Steinberger. And kudos to AMS for the great service and easy payment options. I used to shop at Zzsounds exclusively. Not anymore.

Product Review The quality of the guitar is pretty good for the price. but like most have mentioned, the pickups are weak. Great if you're playing rock only but i play metal and i had to upgrade pickups. the other issue i ran into the volume knob, its too close to the bridge pickup and i keep putting the volume down accidently when im playing. so i removed the tone pot and put the volume pot in its place. the next thing is the middle pickup, it gets in the way of picking the strings. I was having a hard time picking the strings because the pickup was in the way. so i lowered the pickup but now its way too low and be heard through an amp. So i removed the middle pickup, its useless. My next upgrade will be adding locking tuners. Oh and my guitar needed a setup out of the box. It wasn't playable out of the box. Just though i mention it. Great instrument and its fun to play with but just be aware of what you are getting.

Product Review The neck reminds me of as old ESP neck, thick and painted. I did replace the bridge pickup with a dimarzio evolution trembucker spaced since the stock pickups are a little low output. You can order #STADG06 off the epiphone website to use single ball strings. It costs $21 plus shipping. I've had the guitar a month and play it hours every day. Save money and order this guitar instead of a high end Jackson or ESP. Feels like the same thing for way cheaper. I love the tuning stability! Best I've ever seen!

Product Review The size is perfect for travel! The guitar arrived but needed to be worked on. Edges of the frets were rough and needed filling before play. The saddles were not tightened down so when I removed the strings, they went flying. Lessoned learned for the future. Once back together correctly, the playability and tones are impressive. Double ball strings do not seem to exist except for AMS so looking at the option to upgrade the nut? to accept both double ball and standard strings. A little pricey but adds flexibility and functionality.

Product Review My particular guitar didn't arrive in a set-up condition. After adjusting the action and trem, it plays and feels great. It's crazy how comfortable to sit and play these Steinbergers can be. Stays in tune as expected. The pickups compare well to some of my other EMG's and Seymores. A bit bright but plenty clear. Overall, this guitar has improved my experience with quickly tracking guitar into my DAW which is why I made the purchase.

Product Review Still dialing it in, but its loads better then the cheap knockoff travel guitar i bought awhile ago. Old roomie had one in the eighties and was a big Vito Bratta fan. That thing would never go out of tune, this one does not seem as solid as that one did in the tuning department so far. But like i said, still dialing it in. Its nice and comfortable to tool around with sitting in bed watching TV or what have you. Not sure about the ‘kick stand’ but its there if you like. I thought that part could use a little more of a quality upgrade, but i probably won’t really use it. Be nice for a small kid learning though. Beware normal floor stands will not work for this as its too narrow. I am using a Hercules folding half stand with the feet pushed in narrow and it works fine

Product Review This is the second one I have purchased, the first one about 2 years ago.The first one did not remain long in my arsenal, it just felt awkward to me. I am soon going on an extended road trip and needed something small and portable with full features including a trem, so I decided to give it another shot, uh oh, no one seems to have any and the used prices are rediculous. I checked AMS's website daily and finally one appeared, so I snatched it up instantly. When it arrived I was very impressed, it sounded great , stayed in tune and became my go to guitar because of its convenience. I did put 9-42 strings on it and its with me everywhere I go. I am a big fan of AMS and always appreciate there ease of purchase and customer service.

Product Review I got this guitar for travel, to replace a mini Strat. For that use, it is an excellent choice, although it would be nice to see someone (anyone) with a matching hard case. Even though the fretboard is a manufactured material, it does have a little fret sprout, but in general the quality is very good for the price. Best feature: size (and weight!) Worst feature: lack of stocked accessories (case and string adapter)

Product Review I have several guitars and I consistently choose my Steinberger Spirit Pro in Amber Quilt for practicing in my office and home. It is compact and I never ram the headstock into a computer or monitor. The pickups are very good though the center pickup is unnecessary and has low output. It is also raised up so it can interfere with picking. But that is not a showstopper. I have been playing it for maybe a year or so and if it was stolen I would immediately buy another. It holds tune, has a great tremolo which dive bombs and the little fold out support works like a charm. Beautifully thought out guitar.

Product Review I needed a travel guitar and settled on this one. I ordered one with a minor blem, but I can not find anything wrong with it cosmetically. I do my own set ups and own about 20 guitars, so I gave it a good inspection. Frets- did not need leveling, which is usually the case for sub $500 guitars. Edges not sharp. Fingerboard- the grenadillo is dark like ebony. Nice! Strings- Stock strings are meh. I am changing those out and there is an aftermarket adapter if you want to use single ball. I may get one down the road. Tremolo- Well built. You do have to do some tweaking if you are going to go back and forth between blocked and unblock, so that pitch does not change. I keep it blocked since I don't bend up. It does have a little more spring tension that I prefer, meaning I have to use more force to bend down. Tuning Stability- Good, and I play pretty hard Pickups- They are just ok. I can dial up what I need for practice and travel. I don't think they need a swap since this is not something I will gig or record with. I did have to lower the middle pickup to keep my pick from hitting it. Tuners- at the end of the guitar bridge. I have big fingers, so they take a little getting used to. But the ratio is pretty good. Setup out of the box- Action was way too high for me out of the box. I had to lower the action and the truss rod a tad. I also had to adjust the spring tension to make the pitch match on the blocking. As I mentioned earlier, strings are meh Overall I give it 5 stars considering the price and functionality. Now I don't have to argue with the family when I want to bring a guitar on trip (car space is tight with 3 kids).

Smooth Frets!

Product Review I've been looking at headless guitars for a while now, hoping to find something small enough to travel with and replace my micro-strat 19" scale guitar (which is only stable when tuned up to A). The Steinberger is a great choice! The frets are nicely finished and the setup out of the box isn't bad, although some players may have differing points of view than I do. I like 2mm at the 12th fret, which, I admit, isn't low. The finish is good - the back of the neck matches the body, even on the yin-yang color scheme that I bought, so my neck is black on the bottom and white on top. The fretboard is some sort of engineered wood material. I wish it was Richlite, but it appears to be fibrous. AMS should update the product descriptions with current materials. The Steinberger tremolo system works well, but the assembly rattles when locked unless you detune with the master tuner so that the springs pull the assembly down tight. Kind of defeat the purpose since you can't lock for stability and unlock on the fly just when you want the trem. The strings out of the box have a few corroded spots on the plain runs (both the E and B). Normally, I wouldn't care since I'd put fresh strings on anyway, but AMS was out of double ball strings when I ordered. I need to find a good, reliable source or get an adapter to use standard strings.

Product Review Light weight, and compact. Once set up ( wich is easy to do) plays very well. Easy to restring. Pickups or clear and bright but not very hot. Trem/hardtail option very cool. Only real complaint is the volume knob location. I find myself bumping into it frequently. I customize most of my guitars so this one will be getting a knob relocation. Over all a cool piece.

Product Review I love the way this guitar feels. It is so fun to play and the intonation is spot on. Easy to take where ever I go and a true value. There are lots of different sound options with the pickups. This guitar is very easy to adjust the action and intonation if needed. Stays in tune well, and the full scale feels great, especially with the easy access to the higher register. Let's face it, it also looks really cool. Lastly, American Musical Supply provided the best customer service in the industry, so thank you!

Product Review The good is it stays in tune decently it is small and is good for taking with you and it's really light. The bad is the pickups are garbage in my opinion and the middle one gets in the way of my pick and us pretty much useless. They should have made this a HH and skipped that one. The tuners on mine are super stiff and I needed to use a screw driver to get some to turn. The intonation was off and the saddles were also pretty hard to move on some. So you will need to set this guitar up when you get it. Once you get it all sorted out it's a good guitar to travel with

Product Review I would have never guessed when I got this as my travel guitar that it would actually turn into one of my primary practice guitars. It is just so much fun. Why 4 stars then, well, to be honest, I'm not super hip on the pickups and plan on changing them out but it really isn't necessary, I just want that bit extra. From it's fantastic small size to the locking bridge to the fold-out lap stand. Very well thought out and did I say how much fun it is. I go all over the house with it. I sit in the recliner watching TV with it. I sit at the kitchen table, I easily walk around the house. I would not hesitate for a second to buy one again and guarantee I will once I tear this one up.

Product Review Right out of the box I plugged the Steingerger Spirit Pro into my amplifier...pedals included. It was reported to be fully adjusted at the factory and it did sound great. It was my dream guitar and it lived up to its well deserved reputation. Small adjustments were needed for tuning and preferred performance which was expected. I was unexpectedly comlpemented on the guitar when I showed it to the postman. When I played him a tune he asked me if I had Van Halen in there so I think that should explain itself.

Product Review Really enjoying this guitar. Mine came with 10's which required the "master tuning" knob to be cranked in thus causing the tremolo spring to be coil-bound and thus, couldn't be depressed. I put some 9's on it and this is much better - and it plays better with the 9's IMHO. Pickups are OK - the middle pickup is particularly weak, but again - at this price they are acceptable. Very handy guitar to have and it plays great after you get the action down a bit.

Product Review I have owned a Hohner G3T (Hohner copy) for 30 years now it has a rather chunky neck. So I was delighted with my Spirit it has a much more comfortable slim profile neck also I prefer the 5 way switch to the 3 individual mini switches on my Hohner. It's a very versatile little guitar, great for travel. I would've preferred a little more output from the Bridge Pick up but it sounds fine... I love this little Guitar

Product Review It exuded quality as soon as I peeked into the box and unzipped the very nice gig bag that comes with it. This is the seventh guitar I’ve purchased from AMS, and yet again they offered a selection and bargain I couldn’t find elsewhere. It’s a $400 guitar, and you can tell, but it’s definitely a sturdy workhorse that’s more than up to the task. I shoot a lot of videos on my YouTube guitar channel and this was definitely a crowd pleaser. I’m thinking of buying another one!

Product Review Really wanted to like it but mine ended up being a defect so had to return it. The frost blue paint job looks amazing but build quality is sorely lacking on this guitar. Every time I used the tremolo, it kept going out of tune because it was rubbing against the body. It only stayed in tune if I locked the bridge. The vol and tone knobs were crooked and the hardware is really subpar. The pickups definitely need replacing and the middle one always got in the way of my picking. The balance with a strap is good but tilts the body forward so you have to crane your head to see the fretboard. The neck was actually fantastic to play. I was worried about the narrow nut but I didn't have any problem with it. The specs say it's a 'D' shape but it felt more like a 'C' with just a little more meat on the bass side. You really don't notice it unless you're paying attention to it. There are guitars with better hardware and build quality for the same price or less so I'm getting something else.

Product Review I got this guitar to be a sister to a Hohner G3T, which is nearly the identical guitar licensed by Steinberger about 30 years ago . This one is a bit different in that it has a middle pickup (single coil). The guitar was set up pretty well right out of the box . The action is a little bit high, but if my experience with the Hohner is a guide , lowering the action without inducing string buzz is possible . This very compact guitar feels like full size guitar when wearing with a strap , and is easily played on the lap with the little fold-out support on the bottom . I cant comment much on the Steinberger trem because I don’t like messing with the trem so I keep it in the locked out position . The neck is relatively thin D shape and feels great. My Only complaint is the weak middle pick-up , having much lower output than the neck and bridge which both sound good ( neck being tonally the best and strongest ) I’d say this is a players guitar that travels well rather than a travel guitar.

Product Review I have looked at Steinberger guitars for a long time, actually since the 80s, but I was into hair metal back then, and wanted Charvel, Kramer, etc. The Steinberger designs have always peeked my interest, but never bought one, until the other day. I got the Spirit in white. I was really surprized how great this thing feels and plays. The tone is not to bad either. Nowadays im into jazz fusion stuf, like Holdsworth, etc, so this guitar fits what I want in a guitar these days. Great little guitar, and well worth the money.

Product Review I just spent 4 hours with this guitar. Tuned it once before I started and never had to tune it again! When I got it, I initially thought the string action might be a bit high to my liking But after an hour with it, it felt smooth and perfect, which really surprised me! It has a nice C neck that rolls your hand around comfortably. So if you are on the small size, this guitar is gonna warm your heart! I have small hands and it fit like a warm glove. This guitar looks tiny at first glance. But it's like an optical illusion. This baby is a totally full size fretboard. The pickups have a deliciously warm tone, which is great for those David Gilmour type solos. But put some distortion on it and it has more chugga chugga than you might be able to handle! Give a listen to "You've got another thing coming'" by Judas Priest, and THAT is the same chugga chugga I got out of this little beast! I know! I was grinning ear to ear, rocking out with this beauty. So just buy it already! Very happy!

Product Review I own some very nice Gibsons, Carvin/Kiesels, and Strats/Teles all of medium to boutique costs, and I love them all. That being said, I am quite surprised with the quality of this instrument for the price! On the looks, I LOVE the Hot Rod Yellow that I got. It pops big time on the stage and is so unique. The R-Trem bridge is very cool with its locked/floating option. It does take a bit for it to wear in, but once it did, the tuning and such has been nice. It’s not PERFECT, but I don’t expect that at this price point and it’s definitely still gig worthy. The neck feels GREAT and access to all frets is awesome. The guitar weighs so little that my shoulder has no annoyances after a 3-hour gig, compared to my R7 Goldtop Les Paul which is an amazing guitar, but definitely lets its size be known after a while, heh. On the pickups, Steinbergers have sometimes received complaints of being “sterile” or too hi-fi, but I think these are great. I’m out of text, you’ll like it!

Product Review I've always been curious about these. I like the passive pickups and love having a trem that stays in tune. It hasn't let me down at all. Some have claimed that the trem on these is a little fragile. I put lighter gauge strings on my to lessen the strain on the posts. Changing the setup to accommodate the gauge change was really much easier than I expected. A very nice instrument that I now play daily.
