Portability is what sets this unit apart from my other taacam unit. I use both very much but always seem to leave the DP003SD at home while I end up carrying the DP008EX around woth me, because music and ideas happen where and when rhey happen... amd this portable recorder/mixer allows me to snatch those ideas right ip as soon as they happen. I love having both yhe 03SD and 008EX units at my disposal. They are both worth their price amd then some.

I had a DP-008 which I used until the play/rec buttons stopped working. This unit does everything almost exactly like it's predecessor. I noticed the clarity is better and the unit has a built-in Mastering function. The unit is the same dimensions and ports are in the same locations too.

I was smitten by the sleek shape and the capability of this device from the jump. I wasn't aware of how complicated it is to operate effectively for a newbie, so, I'm still debating spending time to learn it or trade it in for a more simple piece of equipment that even a novice can operate.

I started with Tascam 4 track recorders then upgraded to a tascam 32 track I needed something portable so when I wanted to record other fellow musician's I kept it in the family I went with what I know TASCAM ALL THE WAY THIS TASCAM DP008EX DIGITAL RECORDER WAS PERFECT AND FITS THE NEED

This unit is very easy to use and has a far better sound then some bigger recorders. Recording, bouncing, mixing and mastering are very user friendly. I was surprised of how much time was on the 4gb sd card recording 8 tracks.you cant go wrong with the price .Thanks Tascam and American musical.

Great compact studio for home n road. Easy to sketch out, finished ideas on this system. Recommend this system to all musicians out there. I like how the front panel controls are laid out. The screen is easy to read. Mics are designed well for home n use outside!

Everything worked great, fat fingers wont help.
sound was good, mics were good, easy operation.
had it working for a few days, used the headphone socket to many times i guess..its the same problem with these small jacks that need unplugging on a regular basis..
I got the model 24.. soon forgot about the 300 i wasted on the portable..tho its a room mike now for the model 24, and maybe other tricks.

I have been playing guitar for 58 years. I’m almost 69. Never recorded , anything other than music from radio to cassette. This has opened a whole new experience for me. Can’t teach an old dog new tricks is no more. Easy to use.

This digital recorder has proven to be a great recorder for me to extend my work from my home studio. It records all instruments via 1/4 " inputs, or the stereo external mics with good quality sound, and even has great mixing effects. I carry it in my backpack everywhere, so that my music productions are continuous. It enables me to transfer ideas, and tracks to and from my DAW. A very good investment.

This little jewel is perfect for songwriters and making demos. It is unbelievably portable, since it uses AA batteries and as quality condenser mics built in. I love it. 10 Stars in my opinion.

I gave it 4 stars because I'm still trying to learn how to use it. I'm liking what I've learned about it so far, still much more to go. If you're an older rocker used to a 10" reel to reel like I am, it's going to take some time and effort to learn its' operation. It helps to be a teckno-wizzard.

Being a tascam four track owner back in the 80s I am so happy to see that they still keep it simple. Although it a long way since cassettes the layout is quite the same and the quality is amazing. Getting through a recording from start to master is a breeze do to the step by step layout and the sound quality is crisp and clear. I would suggest this little gem to anyone who's getting started and wants to learn the recording process, but don't be fooled this machine will produce cd quality masters and a boat load of fun!
