I purchased a TM-80 and thought it sounded thin and tinny especially since it was said to be an LDC microphone. When I opened it up I discovered that it has a rather small capsule of around 20mm. Then it suffered a loose wire which needed to be resoldered. This microphone is a piece of junk and IMHO Tascam needs to come clean and stop calling it an LDC microphone. I ended up tossing the one I bought in the trash.

You can spend a lot more on a condenser mic but this is perfect. Recording in home studio live electric guitar, live drums, live bass, live vocals (direct and utilizing mic for PA recordings).

Out of amateur just starting in the music business I've learned to appreciate this bike it's not like a plug in USB port to the computer once adjusted low noise high-quality output very sensitive is excellent and help me with my early recordings and as I get better I fall in love with this bike it's simple to use I'm happy I got it

It was too quiet, I had to crank the gain on my interface but then I got a lot of hiss. So I decided to crack it open, there is a gain adjustment inside. You have to remove the red wax that covers it an I gave it one quarter turn and now I’m happy. With that adjustment it’s a really nice budget mic.

This microphone works very well for anything I've used it for, as a vocal mic it shines with the cleanest and most realistic sound quality in recordings of any mic I've ever used in it's price range. With acoustic instruments, it's clarity is superb, and as a room mic, the same. For recording drums, as an overhead, or a room mic it delivers just a wonderful clean and realistic live sounding signal to my recording console. The shock mount is easy to adjust and use, and works nicely, and also gives the mic that "pro-quality" look, but it also delivers pro-quality in performance. For anyone wanting a great quality condenser mic for a fair price, this is a great microphone. I would remind newbies to microphones, that this microphone needs phantom power, and it would be in useful to research any equipment well enough before using this mic with it so as to not have technical issues. Paired with a Tascam DP-24, it is phenomenal in sound quality. Any true audiophile could appreciate the capabilities of this mic, especially for it's truly reasonable price, definitely a contender against the high priced competition. The only drawback it has, is that it didn't come with a nice case, but the case would probably raise the price a tad, so having an optional case available would be a great selling point if it were to be implemented. The little stand that comes with it is a bit cheap and cheezy, but functions ok, but could stand to be a few inches taller to keep the cable from being bent when setting on a table.

I received my TM 80 as part of Tascam's Decemeber Promo. It was a free as part of their rebate so I didn't have to pay for it. Which also means I have no reason to be nice about this microphone or how I used it.
That being said I tried this microphone out as I would any mic for vocals and I will say for the price this microphone actually its quite a gem in its price range. It has one flaw that could turn you away from it depending on what you plan on using it for and that is that it is very "bass heavy". I had to turn my mixer "Low" frequency setting to it's lowest point when using the mic and it still was lowend heavy. I also had to turn my High frequency way up to counter it somewhat. If you plan on using this for singing it will be a problem without a good mixer or some nice VST's to get the mic sounding a bit better but it will get the job done.
If you're using this for say rap vocals, podcasting type of stuff or a PA mic or something like that it's just fine as it is. It's a really great mic for that.
I only cut out 1 star for the bass heaviness of the mic but aside from that it's worth owning as a travel mic or as I like to call it an "idea" mic when you're outside the studio and want to record something but of course don't want to take your "Expensive" stuff with you. Very decent project mic.
I should also add about the build quality. It's a very lightweight mic but sturdy. It also comes with a mount, XLR cable, and a stand. First let me just say how great a deal that is to have for the price. Most companies don't even give you a mic mount these days but Tascam has you set to go right out the box! Yeah it's a great deal.

I bought this mic to go along with a Focusrite Scarlett Solo audio interface. sounds great with voice and will handle placing in front of an amp or drum. I have a boom mic stand but the little one that comes with the unit is very handy.

I just received this item and haven't had a chance to use it yet. I plan to use this for church and cannot see a problem. The reason for the four star review is the 6 ft. mic cable. A twelve foot cable would be much better.

As an old Gramps rocker from the 70's I have used and owned almost every brand and configuration of Microphone out there and I have never found one that sounded so good for such a bargain price.
You know if only I could have come across this good of a Microphone back then I'd be rich and famous today
