Product Review Ive owned and performed in the studio and live using so many drum and midi instruments on the market. This list includes Zendrum, Roland Octopad, Korg Wave drum, and Drum KAT. I can wholeheartedly conclude that after the weeks i've used the DTXM-12 , I have enjoyed the sensitivity of the pads on board which can be configured from finger, to hand, to even various stick throw touch settings. From Indian to Latin to North African to West African to Cocktail, Hip Gig , and Yamaha Oak Custom , Yamaha has placed some essential sounds to equip the musician with great instruments and tools for a wide range of playing situations . Click track with monitoring send , loop creation , fast call user custom kits, and pitched tone generator features are also included and i use each extensively . There are sampling capabilities for performance at 64 mbs capacity , but i believe the DTMX-12 is most valuable as a portable and powerful all inclusive drum and percussion instrument where acoustics, spacial foot print, and cartage present an issue . The companion ios application significantly expands both sound and sample play back capacities. The playing pads on this unit feel great and are extremely quiet when compared to other controllers. This makes the DTMx-12 a great option for apartment playing. There is so much to like here and i highly recommend the Yamaha DTXM-12 for so many various live and in home applications studio and other wise. After a long journey through so many instruments, i have found a home with the Yamaha DTXM-12.I highly recommend checking it out.

Product Review I must say I was disappointed with the Yamaha DTX Multi12 it does have a lot of bells and whistles, very complex machine and a very ambitious attempt from Yamaha. In theory it’s great however, to edit anything is very very time consuming. The sequencer is horrible!!! Loading your own samples Takes a while also. And you would expect more Bread & Butter sounds and samples from Yamaha and the price they are asking. Acoustic kits are missing and it seems a huge percentage of the sounds a real player would never use, not in a real application and gigging. I have more Acoustic drum kits in my keyboards. I love the 12 pads but the bars do not respond as well as the squares. Editing anything on it is like working on a TX7 Module from 1985 - the display in the DTX has to go! It’s like Yamaha has a warehouse of these old parts and they keep using them. There is an app available to edit the dtx however I wouldn’t want to have to carry an iPad around just so I can use it to its full Potential - making a pattern is like using a sequencer from the 80s and you cannot make the patterns in real time. I would recommend you get an Roland SPD30 a bit more expensive but worth the difference in price. And if you want to import your own samples the Roland SPD X it depends what you are going to do with it. In my case I want to play and make loops on the fly if I’m going to trigger loops that are already made I can use something less expensive like say, Launchpad. The DTX can be a beast if you have the time to spend with the app exploring all the features. Having had both as pad comparisons between the DTX and the Octapad SPD 30 the octapad wins just about in everything except you cannot import samples however, you don’t need to cause it comes with just about all the sounds you will need to play drums and percussions.

Product Review This is a great product, its very impressive by itself, but if you spring for an iPad and download the DTX Touch app from the Apple Store the programming becomes extraordinary, used iPad can be bought from Gazelle.com, and the DTX touch app is free, these two together is very very powerful, the best features are its ability to import your own samples, I'll also mention the sound quality is better than I thought, I haven't had it too long, but it knocks my socks off already.

Product Review I have owned the older Roland pads such as the SPD-11, SPD 20 and even the older Octapad. However, this Yamaha DTX drum pad sounds very good. I really like the percussion effects that this thing has such as congas, bongos and even the Timbales. All of those sounds are very natural and slightly better than the Roland ones.

Product Review I researched this module as well as the Roland SPD for a few weeks before I decided to buy the Yamaha. I’m totally glad I did, as I can use it for tons of different functions. I also found some expansions you can use that other users have made.

5 OUT OF 5...bounce/rebound not the greatest; but hand-playing works well

Product Review I bought this item after binge-downloading samples. There is an app available for iPad, which you MUST MUST MUST get, it makes programming this thing ridiculously easy. It's really cool how you can have multiple sounds on each pad; I want to accomplish this with velocity control. Technically you could get 4 different voices, depending on how soft/hard you smack the pads. I can do 3, getting to 4 might not be practical. The one downside to this product: Any kind of bounce/rebound strokes are difficult; the pads are not hard enough. Maybe they designed it that way to make hand-playing easier. Since you can plug external pads in, I'm ok with that; I'm using a Simmons SD1500 pad for the snare, and the triggering with paradiddles is GREAT.

Really Impressed!

I've owned it for four days and I was immediately impressed at it's quality. Yes, the pads are solid and can clearly take a beating but the unit itself is high quality. There is clearly a learning curve to really get into the bells and whistles but I would have been disspointed if that weren't the case. Simply stated, the DTX will do a lot so there is going to be a lot to learn. Killer! I am really impressed with not just the samples (sounds) but it's responsiveness. As a percussionist, I know the difference between a "good" conga sound and a "bad" conga sounds...this thing sounds like a real conga. In fact, all of the samples are spot on, perfection. Your general opinion of this product. I've only had it for four days but so far I am really impressed! Quality, sound, responsiveness...top rated! It's expensive unless you consider the amount of gear you would have to buy to get this much variety in your rig. Plus, when you consider the time you will save breaking down/setting up and loading and unloading, I'm not sure you can do better than $700. It will compliment any drum kit or percussion rig. I recommend the DTX stand just for positioning sake but there are other ways to attach it to your rig.
