Priced as a beginner acoustic...but plays and sounds like a much more expensive guitar. All wood! no laminate board here. Seriously...get this guitar until you can afford the Martin, It won't be much of a step up for you other than the price.

I was looking for an affordable acoustic guitar with great value and good quality and I found it with this beauty. I received it the day after ordering and have had a hard time not playing it for hours every day. beautiful tone and sustain. this Yamaha compares with the Martin's and alvarez guitars at a higher price point. highly recommend!

If you thought Yamaha made cheap thin sounding guitars then you're wrong. I know there is a few differences between the fg830 and the d28. But by the sound you wouldn't be able to tell which is which. Absolutely beautiful guitar and high quality tuners keep it in tune with very little tuning up needed. I definitely recommend the fg830 to anyone starting out or not so new to the game. I am a Yamaha fan for life now!!

Needed a new acoustic guitar, as I lost all my guitars in a house fire. I’m really a Gibson guy, but I prefer electrics, so instead of laying out three to four thousand on an acoustic I choose this Yamaha. This Yamaha play and sounds wonderful! Especially for the money, tone and sustain is great. No fret problems, nice fret board and is bound, for a small price!

Speaking of the natural color with solid sitka spruce top,
rosewood back and sides. abalone inlay, tortoise pick guard
also the cream binding along neck and guitar shape.
This is my first guitar and I feel I made the best decision in choosing the Yamaha FG830 Folk Guitar. It sounds remarkable, it gives me great pleasure to play such a fine peace of equipment. My sessions of playing this guitar are most enjoyable.
Thank You Yamaha

Big sounds from a light guitar! When I got the package, it felt really like and was concerned. I got this guitar for my 14 year old son, who has progressed from his 3/4 guitar and needs something a little more stable, so I was worried. When I pulled out the guitar, wow, felt really solid, and light, really really light...so I played it and it was a clean sound, very big sounds, and just felt good to play..I like a smaller neck, and it was just right for my big fingers, the action on the strings were a little higher, but know we can make small adjustments to it, no big deal. Highly recommend this guitar!

The Most Quality For the Price

Product Review
The craftsmanship for the price is unreal. Full body binding to include front, rear, neck, and head stock. Who does that? With an abalone rosette too? For that price? Plus it plays like a dream. I must admit that when it was delivered the neck was in way too much relief and with the strings tuned down about 1 and a half steps overall. Another words "Way-Out". Tuned to pitch[A=440] the neck relief was still too much. After a truss-rod adjustment and tune-stretch-re-tune it is fabulous. Just know it may need a little TLC but then make you smile.

Don’t let the price tag and brand fool you. This is the best guitar under $500 hands down. I have a D-35 from the mid 90’s and it’s hangs right with it. Looks good and is comfortable to play. If you are looking for great guitar for your beginner or step up in quality, this is the guitar for you!

I purchased this for my brother who requested a Yamaha and to hear the excitement in his voice after receiving the guitar brings me so much joy. I've even considered buying a guitar for the first time just so he can teach me because his dream was to be a teacher. The joy that he has encourages me to want to learn more and explore different avenues in life regardless of my age.

I don't have the money to spend on some high end Martin or Taylor so I was looking for something in the $300 dollar range. I bought this guitar and I love it. It has a great look and really good feel. Every time I pick it up for one song I end up playing it for hours. Great value for the price.

I'm a beginner, at age 59. The Yamaha FG830 is my third guitar - all of them from AMS. I've struggled with fret buzz. This is the best of the three. AMS' 45-day return and interest free purchase make the process of getting and switching guitars a breeze. All you've got to do is play it!

Purchased my Yamaha fg 830 on tues and it arrived on Friday. Fantastic service. Arrived in perfect shape. The fit and finish on this guitar is beautiful. As good as my Martin. The set up is spot on. The sound and feel is incredible. Sounds better than my Martin. This is my second guitar from AMS. My first was a Schector electric years ago. It too got to me fast and set up perfect. AMS you definitely know what your doing and you do it well. Way to go. 5 stars for AMS.

Officially had not time to sit down yet to make sure everything is in tune and ready to go. Looking for web sites that will help you learn. But highly recommend this guitar because I have many friends that play music said "HEY WHERE DID YOU GET THIS AWSOME ACOUSTIC, IT IS VERY NICE & WELL BUILT FOR THE MONEY AND WOULD TAKE IT UP ON STAGE TO PLAY". Me, I just want to keep my promise I made 5 years ago. He'd rather me first learn the banjo being banjo & I kept putting it off, so if I am winner of this drawing I will be getting banjo supplies from you buy some DVD & books for lessons and I will play for him always & his fond memories will be remembered as I strum/pick the banjo & acoustic guitars, then back to relearn piano music. Good luck for all who entered the contest & may the winning entry be blessed.

Excellent Guitar After New Strings and Set Up

Product Review
I just got my Yamaha FG830. I was a little disappointed in the set up job and the strings were dead ( they are always dead on new guitars) so I got to examining what I needed to do. The bridge saddle was way too high on the low E string so I had to grind the saddle down about 3/16, nearly the same as the high E height, then sand the bottom flat and true. I got the action low where I like it. Next, I examined the nut height of the strings and the grooves were a little rough cut, so I got out my nut files and cleaned them up and lowered the nut height of the strings about .002. I put a set of Earthwood light 80/20 Bronze strings on it. .11-.52 gauge. I played it a while and determined they were too light, lacking the bass response and twangy on the high E...So I took off the lights, oiled the fretboard, and put a set of Earthwood .12-.54 Medium Light Gauge strings on it and that hit the nail on the head... I've got it playing as well as any Martin with Perfect Action & Great Tone...
