I own a Motif XF and love it for its capabilities and sound. I was looking for something lighter but with compatible sound for gigging. MX88 is the answer. I didn’t lose the great sound that I need and the feel is great, similar to the Motif. I am still playing with its capabilities, but seems to have everything that I need for gigging at 1/3 of the weight.

I love the MX88, it really impressed me with sounds, keys action like piano feel.
Great sequencer, and also great drums sounds and patches inspired from the Motif technology.
I had a bit of difficulties to set it up with Pro Tools, but Yamaha has a great tech support, it was solved in no time.
I really recommend this synth, it is affordable for what it has to offer. It earned its place in my studio, no contest.

I owned an original Motif 7 for years - the MX88 sounds incredible- has the sound engine from the last Motif series. Plus I was looking for a MIDI controller to use with my Cubase Pro 11. It was made to do just that! So basically it was everything I needed for a really decent price. I also love Yamaha’s weighted key action. Love it! Killer keyboard!

I have only had it for a couple weeks, but I am in love with it already. It definitely meets my expectations. I had a similar keyboard years ago, and this is superior to the one I had.

Good Morning! I am a full time professional musician who gigs once or twice a week playing either drums or keyboards.
For the past 4 years or so I've been playing the Yamaha S90XS, which I love...great touch, powerful sounds.
I'll be turning 70 this year and all the "schlepping" is becoming even more tedious. The drums are no issue 'cause I can take a small kit and carry them piece by piece. But with the S90 weighing in at 49.6 lbs...it was time go lighter.
I thought a stage piano would be the weigh (pun intended) to go but I didn't want to give up the all Yamaha sounds and the action.
I studied a lot of stage pianos. The nearest I could find was the Yamaha CP-73 stage piano for $1999--came in at 28 lbs--but twice my budget.
The MX88 is labeled as a music synthesizer--but really seems to be built to be used as a stage piano--or much the same as the CP73 but half the cost and weighs only 30.58 lbs.
I actually purchased a Roland DS88 from AMS thinking that--the DS88--had some different features from Yamaha & that even though it weighed 35 lbs.--if I really liked it I wouldn't notice the extra 4.5 lbs. WRONG!! When I received the Roland I played it for about 20 minutes, packed it up, sent it back and ordered the MX88.
I've had the MX88 for about 30 days now and I love it as much as I love my S90XS--and more when I'm packing it! Because they are so similar--getting around on the MX88 has been easy and I'v learned a couple of things on it that I've taken back to the S90.
The instrument has exceeded my expectations. I didn't expect the action to feel as good on the MX88 as it does on the S90XS...but it does.
It's an exceptional keyboard for the price.
My ONLY complaint about it is the same one that I have for pretty much all of them. Unless I've missed one--Why must the print be so small on the instrument itself and why can't someone make a keyboard with an entire back-lit panel with multiple lights built in that the operator can adjust for any situation?

I ordered this keyboard to further enhance my learning. I think AMS does a wonderful job of helping people like me on a fixed income. I play in church (guitar) and use guitar pedals for organ and keyboard. Now I can better myself to become a better musician for the churches and gospel groups/choirs I play for. They say you get what you pay for. So for $1,000 dollars, I wasn’t expecting much more than solid sounds and portability. This thing goes way above that! All the sounds in it are studio ready, so they sound full, warm, and pristine. And of course it sounds killer onstage. Whether you’re playing through a cheap keyboard amp or a high-end PA, the sound on the MX88 always delivers. The piano sounds and feels wonderful, but the Rhodes and classic EP patches really shine through. The bass and guitars and believable. And if you have to rip a synth solo, the leads are legit! It’s lightweight, splits and layers quickly, has an attractive design, and the action is incredible! In my 27 years onstage, I’ve never been happier with a main board. If you’re a real player, you’re gonna love this keyboard.

After shopping around for a new keyboard, this is one of the few relatively affordable ones which has 88 keys and a pitch bend (plus a mod wheel as well). I just wish it would come with a stand, speakers, and a sustain pedal. You have to buy these separately.

I purchased this for my husband for his birthday and he’s in LOVE!! He loves the weighted keys because it makes playing, Smooth. It really has a Great sound and doesn’t need extra instruments....it IS what you need to carry a band/group sound! I can’t say a lot personally, but I really enjoy listening to him play and telling me about what all it has to offer!! Great choice

My first time trying American Musical Supply was better than I expected. The website was definitely easy to navigate and there was nothing that was overpriced. The process to get my gear was very short and I was able to start playing my new keyboard within 3 days!!!! You can’t beat that. My keyboard had no scratches or blemishes. It came with everything I needed. My card is never overcharged and the payments always come out on time. Also, whenever I had a question and called, the customer service was outstanding. I ordered this keyboard in hopes that it was what I needed and I have to say it was much more than I expected. The sounds in this keyboard are excellent. I love the feel of the weighted keys, the connection to a laptop was super simple and easy to work with. This thing is light weight and easy to gig around. I love everything about this keyboard and I’m glad I purchased it. The price for this keyboard is excellent, I couldn’t be happier with this purchase.

This is a great keyboard for its price range. It will fulfill your needs, it’s light weight so you can travel with it. I just wish you could layer more than two sounds but you can connect it to a laptop and combine more sounds. Over this keyboard would be a great keyboard to have in your collection.

This keyboard is great. The sounds (Voices/Patches) are too quality; a big upgrade from my last board. The board's graded keys plays like the real thing (you have to check this out). I would encourage everyone interested in a new board, CHOOSE THE MX88!! You won't regret it!!

I am not a full on keyboard player so I didn't want a fully tricked out synth but I wanted something nice with more than just piano sounds. This really fit the bill. The piano and keyboard sounds are absolutely beautiful and the touch is so much better than all the other keys i tried in the similar price range. Can't say much about the other features, I dont use them much. But the thing is really fun to play, which motivates me to play more often. Overall I would say its probably pretty bare bones compared to the MOXF8 or something like that but what you get is really great quality.

Bought this keyboard for our open jam we hold every Thursday night and everyone just loves it. Great selection of sounds and most parameters are accessible right on the top of the keyboard without entering deep menus. Sound selection, reverb, chorus and all the important stuff is all within one touch. Switch sounds and adjust effects in seconds. You'll really enjoy this for live performances especially!

LOVE IT!! The action on the weighted keys are fantastic. Sweet feel and touch. Easy set up for playing and recording with layered sounds and Arpeggios. Awesome selections of sounds to choose from the Yamaha MOTIF. Having the FM Essentials connections with my phone and iPad sends this product over the top. :-)

I'm giving this five stars due to the outstanding key bed. I am a trained musician who attended one of the best music schools in the USA. I am more picky than most amateur musicians. I would very highly recommend this keyboard for someone looking for a keyboard for the home in place of a piano, someone looking for a weighted quality keyboard for a project studio or someone wanting a keyboard for worship/praise music. The sound quality is very good. My only complaint is the unbalanced outs. Please note you will need a set of speakers for this keyboard. I play through a Genelec setup that costs a lot but a pair of JBL LSR305P MKII will do.

I love the weighted keys and how the rich sounds, layered sounds and arpeggios instantly opens a creative portal of inspiration to write songs. I wake up in the middle of the night just to play it...
