Good accurate sound

Made of plastic but the value of this product is in the sound quality and the different recording options it affords. As long as you take good care of it, you'll be good. Plug and play to garageband through the USB port. Very easy to use if you read the instructions or watch a few youtube videos, which I always do as I research for products before buying them. Here is where this product stands out. You get the sound of a good condenser mic, or two or four; plus the portability and versatility of a field recorder. Too soon to tell. Your general opinion of this product. Great sound, great price. Can be used in many applications/contexts.

This unit has had some major falls and still operates without flaw. I consider the selection of recording options - mics is very handy and useful. there is nothing I would add to the unit - it's great for what I use it for. After reading the manual it was easy to navigate through the menu and use the H2. Recording is a breeze I love the tone this unit has when recording live performances/band practice. Even when the unit is a couple of feet away from my bass cabinet, piano, organ, keys, and drum - nothing comes through over powering another. I've owned it for a month. Your general opinion of this product. This is a solid unit and well worth the money. I've used and owned other digital recorders and this is by far the best of the bunch. I've researched this product for a month or two before purchasing

My Video Camera's "Good Ears"

Plastic, but good! Never failed me... I use it as the audio for my video camera... easy to sync in the computer... Sound, sound, SOUND! A+! I use the external mic in for a shotgun mic sometimes. Works great! I like the fact that I can monitor while I record. Easy to use, but a lot of menus to scroll through. Not a problem for me! It works amazing! Natural and clean... Sweet stereo image! Takes one hell of a high SPL! (the built in pad takes care of the loud stuff) It is a workhorse... No problems ever... Your general opinion of this product. I won't leave home without it!

Plastic case but, what do you really need or expect, just take of it and, I'm sure it will last a good long time. This unit has plenty of goodies built in and, even some you wouldn't expect like a tuner and, a metronome. The really big thing though is the 4 mics and, the ability to use them in different configurations. With all the auto presets all you have to do is just push a button and, go that's it. One thing that I don't like doing is twiddling around with knobs and, buttons when I am performing on stage. If I can't set it and forget it it's outa here! I really shopped around before I purchased this unit, I had tried others and, they worked fine but what sold me on this one was all the accessories that it came with at no extra cost. It came with a 1GB SD card instead of the 512 card that was advertised WOO HOO! I still plan on buying a 4GB card down the road. I read through the manual a little bit made a few settings and, recorded my acoustic guitar to check it out SUPER! I can see a lot of usage in the near future to record live performances of myself and, of my band. Very easy to use and, works GREAT!!!!! Sound is very accurate and, clean. Can't wait to try it with my band. Haven't had it that long but, I have owned samson products before and, I'm still using them for several years so I can't help but believe that this one will follow suit. Your general opinion of this product. Great unit for the bucks, I am glad I made this decision to purchase the ZOOM H2. I can see why there were so many positive reviews just like mine.

I give the folks at Zoom a huge thank you for this wonderful product at a great price! I bought a "non-factory sealed" one from AMS and it's perfect! I understand the plastic is probably for the price point. If you take care of it, that shouldn't be an issue. I LOVE the different mic settings. I use 90 degrees for solo recording, 120 degrees for recording a band in front and the 2CH surround for recording a band from the middle (drums at 90, others at 120), I even use it at 2CH Surround to get ambience from the empty back of the room (my Church), I point the 120 towards the band and the 90 towards the rear). The results in every scenario are fantastic! I haven't used the 4CH Surround feature yet. I used it right out of the box with little to learn about it. I do find some of the features in the onboard menu a bit tough to navigate, but it takes very little time to figure it all out. I couldn't ask for better tone! Make sure you have the mic sensitivity low for louder music or you'll get clipping. I keep it in a case when not in use, so it's in great shape. As I mentioned, it IS plastic though... so be careful. Your general opinion of this product. I bring it everywhere. It's so light and easy to bring. Make sure you have some kind of case though, it is all plastic. Still, it's a top notch product!

I love the compact size. Fits easily into guitar case, gig bag or pedal board case. I wish there was a more protective case or carrying bag. Not so sure it would survive a good blow or drop. So I wrap mine in a small towel and put it and some of the extras into a ziplock bag to transport. A quick read-thru of the manual and I was set to go. Haven't gone back to the manual yet. Everything is pretty easy to figure out. I probably wouldn't use this to release songs on a cd but it's perfect for getting good live recordings for critiquing ourselves. Your general opinion of this product. First band reheasal I recorded sounded great. Perfect for listening to our performances to refine parts, arrangements, etc. Set up is a breeze - a quick level check (used the 'studio' limiter too) and off you go.

I already mentioned this in reliability, but it seems to be made very well. Obviously, it's something you want to handle with care like any microphone or computer device. But with proper care, I can't see what could wear out on this. The flexibility of pickup patterns is excellent and is probably the best feature. Ease of use was not entirely the best thing of this device. It wasn't overly complicated, but it did take me a little bit of time to figure out how to navigate the menu system. Maybe if I had read the manual first... ;) I haven't had it long enough to speak to this, but it seems very durable and reliable. Your general opinion of this product. My general opinion is that this is an amazing deal and a great quality recording device. Lots of flexibility, including the ability to record in different formats

It is very light & most likely a little fragile, I would be careful not to drop. The 3 stage vol. control for different levels of music we practice full vol. with the PA & Amps and set recorder in the middle, It is amazing the way it automatic adjust to the vol. in the room. This little recorder is very easy to operate all you have to do is follow the screen. The sound is fantastic I have recorded CD's off this of practice and the quality of sound is, well you just need to see for your self. Haven't had it very long maybe 3 months tops, so I can't really say yet. Your general opinion of this product. This was one of the best investments I think I have ever made.

Yes and very! Loaded! Amazing. When I got the recorder and opened the box I couldn't believe I paid 180 bucks for this little, light weight, plastic "toy" but now I understand. This thing does it all. My main reason for buying this was to record my bands live shows to review our performances. For that it is very easy to use. Of course I had to figure out how to use it first and how to set record levels, yada yada yada. That was fairly easy to do. Now its very very easy to turn on push a couple of buttons and record away! Better than expected! I only owned this product a short time but I have purchased a Zoom drum machine and 10 track digital recorder many years ago and they both are still going strong so.................. Your general opinion of this product. I trhink any one would be thrilled with this purchase

Quality is on every level with this digital recorder... Really nice to use a 2G and up memory card to let the bugger record. So small you would not think it capable as well as it is... Like it was live!! Will know in a few months... how it holds up. Your general opinion of this product. This is a mini studio at a fingers touch. Applications for this recorder are endless.

Amazing capability in a tiny package!

By: Steve Vercelloni      Submitted: 4/17/2009

I am a huge fan of Zoom products and have overall gotten used to the universal use of plastic in home-recording gear. The H2 is as light at a feather and delivers fantastic quality recordings in multiple formats. The design is super cool and I just need to be careful with the cover for the slot for the card as well as the battery cover. It has performed as advertised with no issues that would lead me to believe that I would be unhappy with this product in the long run. I researched it heavily and checked out a great O'Reilly review with sound clips that sold me. I am enjoying the ability to record band rehearsals and have them downloaded to my laptop before everyone has broken down their equipment for the evening. It took me 3 minutes to download high-quality MP3 recordings of the highlights of a two hour rehearsal. Fantastic! The files are saved to folders and I can go get them easily for review and distribution. As with most digital products, I will probably only scratch the surface of capabilities on this thing but if those basic tools continue to work well, I'll be very happy. In my experience with other Zoom products, I was used to the interface and navigation concepts. Zoom has you either commit to an action or gives you the option to back out in a universal option that is consistent in anything you do with the product. The manual is very good and has been very helpful in assisting me in setting up my basic settings. I'm still working out placement but even the out-of-the-box test recordings have been quality and great reference tools for new song parts and development. It's all there, warts and all...with tons of memory on my 4mb card that I purchased after-the-fact. I didn't miss anything. The H2 doesn't seem too quirky or tempermental. It fires right up and you can pick up right where you left off with the same settings which is nice. It took two tries to get the software for the file transfer to kick in but once it did, it was fine, and that might have been due to my HP laptop, not the H2. Your general opinion of this product. I have used a Zoom 802cd eight track recorder for years and have been thrilled with it's performance so I was confident in continuing my relationship with the manufacturer. It is really nice to be able to literally take the H2 out of my pocket, turn it on, and then capture the moment. For me as a recordist that is very liberating. I don't have to monitor the situation and can just let the H2 do its thing and enjoy the recordings. The quality of the byproduct is very high and I haven't even explored the capabilities beyond the MP3 settings. It's quite possible I won't have to.

I used to use a reel-to-reel Roberts 990 and Astatic mics. The little Zoomer does 10 times what that setup did!! Best feature is choice of mic patterns. A fit for all shoots. Ease of use increases with experience. One thing not mentioned in the manual, is that rechargable batteries last only 15 minutes IF you keep the LIGHT ON!! Set it for 15 seconds! I am told, and I believe it, that I would have to spend $600 on hifi microphones before I could hear ANY improbement. Only had it for a short time, but I just did a concert in a huge cathedral and the Zoom came through magnificently. Sweet tones and never overpowered by that big cathedral sound. Your general opinion of this product. Buttons are tiny and menus are confusing, but it works. And it is up to user to MAKE it work. (I keep the manual IN the mike bag!!)

Listen to a ZOOM H-2 recording! It's awsome sound from a small package!

The item seems to be very well made with a ton of recording features. In testing this product it functions much better than my expectations were of this product. Everything one needs to make quality recordings! No extra mic's or cables to buy, you can record from front or rear or both for suround sound it also has multi tracks so you can edit & mix your recordings. The media is easily transferabe to your home computer. You can record anywhere because of its ability to function with battery power or AC. I would like the H-2 better if it had a larger LED screen so the print in the the drop down menu's could be more easily read. I learnd The basics easily, But I'm going to have to refer to the manual to figure out some to the subsets in the menu. The sound is an easy match of what you have tasked it to record. I have not noticed any backgroung noise with any of my test recordings just good honest replay of what one has played weither you are in good form or are having some mistakes it captures it well. I think that this will be a very relibable product. Just don't store batteries in it for long periods of time, That can wreck any electronic product Your general opinion of this product. I'm very happy with the ZOOM H-2 it has the features I need and the quality I desire. It's light weight sure beats carrying around a 17 pound mulit tracker And all it's mic's, cables, reciever, & monitor speakers. To set up my studio I just set the recorder on a music stool in front of my Amp & PA Then set the leavls & I'm Recording

One Tough Little Recorder

I have two of these, one for over a year, and one I got six months later to keep in my auto for unexpected sound opportunities. Very nice design, improved controls over the H4 (which I also have) that should be more robust in the field. Plastic case, though light, is strong (see below) and mic cover is effective. I strongly recommend the silicon armor jacket (see below, again). For my use (field recording, sounds and music) this is the perfect design. The four channel surround recording feature is unique and effective. The two pairs of mics provide notably different sound perspective when used in stereo mode. The menu selection is the only weakness in having to press the < and > buttons to scroll up and down, but that is easy to learn. Very easy to use if you are familiar with audio recording, and even a total novice could figure it out pretty quickly. Sound quality with built-in mics is excellent. I use 44.1 and 48 kHz at 24 bits and S/N is very high, frequency response seems very flat (I haven't run quantitative tests, but tests on real sound sources yields strong bass and lots of air). Both units have functioned flawlessly - in spite of one unit flying off the top of my Subaru turbo as I accelerated from about 30 to 60+ passing a truck on a county road. I saw it in the rear view mirror flying for a moment, then bouncing down the blacktop and over the side. I thought it would be in pieces, but although the silicon armor jacket had some chunks ripped out, it turned on and worked fine. Tests back in my studio found it seemed totally unaffected compared to initial testing. Your general opinion of this product. Amazing for the price. Zoom has even provided firmware updates on their web site to add features as they did with the H4.

Time will tell of course, but this unit looks to be extremely well made. Some here confuse plastic and lightweight with cheap. I think you need to look deeper than that. I have had zero functional issues with operation. Sound quality and ease of use. This unit sounds nearly as good as units costing 7-8 times as much, and you can be in record mode by touching as few as 2 buttons. It's easier to use than a cassette recorder. I don't think it could be easier to use. At this price every serious musician should own one. Excellent I had it about 6 months. I've dropped it once. Nothing wrong with it. Your general opinion of this product. It's curious how the cheapest of the bunch is among the best, but that's the case here. If you XLR inputs then you have to go with the H4, but people I know who own that tell me it is a bit complicated to use.

This is made well, for it's price range, keep it in the bag and don't let all types of people handle it and it will last. It's great. The best feature is you can use the USB to down load it to a computer, I was worried at first then it does it in wav, that IS WONDERFUL! Not only that, if you make a long taping, you can cut it up in to small parts that genius on zoom part. This product is so easy to use. It works well with computers, and the Mac of course. The sound was great - just like listening live. It has a wonderful sound. when I do my camcorder shots I always record with my Zoom because it's clearer and the compression is much better than the camcorder. No quams about it. It has stood up for over a year and still works great. Your general opinion of this product. I think it's a great product at a fair price. I wish the case was metal, but other than that I have no complaints. Your general opinion of this product. This is a wonderful product. You can use it in your school to take notes and hear clearly what the teacher is saying. You can record nature and it's clear.

Yes, it is plastic. What do you expect for $199. Get the silicone protector glove and don't worry. Easy interface. Could use a larger display but that would drive up the cost. Requires only a small learning curve. What matters is how this unit records, and it records well. Great for practices and live gigs. I set it up on a mic stand and leave it by the sound man. Really lets one hear how they sound. You can set any quality (mp3 to 24 bit) you want. Had it a month and used it 4 times for recording. So far so good. Your general opinion of this product. An 8 gig card gives you over 12 hrs or recording time @ 16 bit 44.1 quality. Amazing for it's size. After a gig, I just pull the card, load the files into my laptop then make copies to the musicians with their jump drives. Everyone can hear how they sound that night.

Seems well made. I read some of the complaints people had about the the shell being made of plastic, but it's a recorder not a football! They seem to have all the necessities covered both with onboard menu and included cables, stand, windscreen, etc. Simple straight forward controls. The tone is where this unit really outdistances it's self from other units. This thing will probably put most of my other recording equipment to rest. Your general opinion of this product. Seems sturdy enough. I mean, you don't go around dropping microphones, right? It's an electronic device--treat it as such. You can switch it on and be ready to record in literally about 10 seconds. The mp3 recording options can give you loads of recording time on one track: perfect for recording jams or radio broadcasts. Anyone who's used any electronic recording devices at all in the last 10 years will find this very intuitively laid-out and easy to use. The recordings sounds fantastic on it. I did a thunderstorm in SURROUND this summer.....sounded great! No problems at all but I'm one of those people who are careful with their toys. No recording drop-outs at all in any of the formats I've tried. Your general opinion of this product. My first recordings were on a chunky, mono, Panasonic cassette deck which had more ambient noise than a carwash: you can imagine how pleased I am to have such a SMALL device that records digitally and plays back crystal clear.

Haven't had it long enough to make a real assessment. I plan to take care of it, so should last a good long while. Your general opinion of this product. Great for portability

I have had this thing for about 4 months now and it is very dependable, but I take really good care of it. It mostly plastic and I can see the doors and covers breaking easily if you are rough with it. This has some really great features for portable field recording. I really like having the microphones on both sides, it adds a lot of flexibility. It will allow you to record front and back to 2 separate wav files so you can put singer on one side and guitar on the other and then mix it later in your DAW. It is pretty easy to use once you get used to it, but there are a lot of menus that you have to scroll through. If you are one of those people that like a button for everything this might not be the recorder for you. The sound is pretty good. The mics are OK for the price, the pres are a little noise, especially if you have to turn them up. The bass is a little weak, but for price, it is great. It works really well to sync up to a video camera for a cheap and easy shoot. Sounds way better then my on board audio of my video camera. Like I said in the quality comment, it has been reliable, but the cheap plastic doors seem easy to break if you are not careful with it. Your general opinion of this product. It is a great product for the cost. I use it to capture audio for video recording, I use it to record live shows, I use it to capture practices and I have used it for recording business meeting.

I have had the recorder for about 4 months. It has worked perfectly everytime. The ease of use and the quality of sound will blow you away. I am a songwriter and I have waited for 30 years to have a recorder that is this easy to use and sounds this good. There is a button on one side that is set up for three levels of microphone sensitivity. This is great for quick selection and yet you also have the ability to adjust levels further within the interface. It also has a great feature for recording live bands that controls overload of bass tones. The interface is extremely intuitive, and powerful. Again, it is extremely easy to use. I have never lost a song or erased something by accident. The manual was easy for me to understand and I was recording in about 30 Miinutes. Unbelieveable! I'm not kidding, and everyone that has used it is repeatedly amazed For the last four months I have used indoors and out in solo performances and in very load concerts. It is so solid that I loan it to people without worry. There is nothing to brake. Your general opinion of this product. This is one of the most satisfying purchases I have ever made. Sound is warm and rich. My only regret that this thing was not around years ago to save me from all those disappointing recorders I bought in the past. If you want ease of use, quick access, and wonderful sound, this is what your looking for.

How about some H2 armor??

By: Death from Ohio Cleveland      Submitted: 5/4/2008

Product Rating

I'm 50/50 on this subject because it's just so very P L A S T I C! Maybe the internals ARE that well made but I certainly wouldn't expect this sucker to survive a half dozen drops over the years onto a hard surface. WE NEED H2 ARMOR! A nice aluminum or steel clamshell DESPERATELY needs to be introduced onto the market because as it is, I almost returned it when I felt how light it was at the cost it has. Absolutely unacceptable that it costs $200 and the thing is plastic! There's no editing features on board but still a variety of much needed and useful options. Bass cut, compression and a couple other goodies including a time and date stamp function as well as a guitar and bass tuner. Oh and not to forget-a stand, windscreen, mic-handle, ear buds, cables and power supply. I'm not sure how flexible the input jacks are but it seems you get 2 tracks of stereo recording if you use both at once though I make no guarantees. There's also the option of recording through both the line in and the H2's front mic in unison. It's a complete no brainer all the way across the board. I wanted something simple to make field recordings for sound effects but tested it with my guitar and was blown away. I won't need an external mic for my field recordings after experiencing the potency of the mics on board. This thing really was designed to be used by anyone yet meet the demands of recording industry professionals. The sound quality is AMAZING and makes up for the lack of physical quality that almost had me returning the unit. The first recording I made was almost flawless. I toyed with the mic settings, set it on my laptop about 7-8 feet from my halfstack and let it record. The thing actually picked up my pick hitting the strings over blaring arpeggios and improvised shred. This recorder really will deliver studio perfect recordings without the need to EQ or process the track once you've transfered it to PC. With the four channel mic recording flexibility, you can record your entire band and deliver album quality recordings with the right scenario. The only drawback of course is no editing flexibility but if you're just rehearsing the same songs week after week, leave this running and you'll eventually find you have every song recorded to near perfection. Stick it in a separate room, run a pair of speakers to it from your band's mixer and press record. I've had it less than a week but have already made it clear, the unit is plastic and doesn't feel like an expensive piece of equipment by any means which is of course...BAD I expect it to last at least half a decade if taken care of reasonably well. Your general opinion of this product. I think it could have a few more functions and more input flexibility like a single 1/4 stereo/mono switching jack but it's still an impressive unit.

It is very well made. Yes it is plastic but what can you expect for $199? I plan to take care of it so see no problem. So far the performance has been rock solid. It does have a problem recording at 24/96 with a standard SD card. I upgraded to the Transcend 8 gig Class 6 card and can record all night at that resolution with no dropouts. 2 stereo mic pairs plus line in. Wide range of formats to record in. Great sound. The menu system is very intuitive, figured it out in no time with only a little referring to the manual. Lots of cool features in the menu make this a very versatile unit. Also cool are the included accessories. The mic clip adapter is great, as is the fact that you can mount it on a camera tripod. It's not mentioned on the product page, but it also comes with a nice wind screen. Very easy to use. Menus are intuitive, buttons and such well laid out. Takes me all of 1 minute to be ready to record at the gig. I don't see how you can go wrong with this unit. The sound quality is amazing,it's versatile and easy to use and won't break the bank. Simply put: excellent. I mainly use the line in feature to record a stereo board mix at the gigs. The recorded sound is amazingly clean and detailed. The mics are great too. Use to record acoustic guitar, vocals, piano. Very accurate. The stereo image is very natural sounding. I read a few online reviews where some people complain about the unit clipping but I have not had a problem. Leave yourself some headroom when setting up your gain structure when using the line in and make good choices as far as mic placement goes and there you go. Any mic will clip given enough SPL. Haven't had it long enough to say, but I expect that with proper care it should last practically forever. Your general opinion of this product. This one is a keeper. I hesitated to buy it as it is about the cheapest field recorder out there, but decided to take a chance and am glad I did. ZOOM has a winner here. The only thing I wish it would do is record at the higher resolution when using it as a USB mic. You are limited to 16/48 in that scenario. Perhaps they will change this in a future firmware update. Or not. I really don't care, there are ways to work around it and that's not why I bought it in the first place.

Bought mine November 2007. Why did it take so long! Everything about it and convenience. The cowboy needed a colt. The musician needed the H2. My 8 year old want's his own. It's great! What you hear is what you get. If you don't like, it didn't sound good when you recorded it. Some times the truth hurts. Don't ask "how'd it sound" listen for yourself, it's that simple. Only 6 months old, still acts and looks new. Your general opinion of this product. I love it but, it's too young to marry.

It's hard to say. It's very, very light. There's nothing to it. I'm afraid to drop it. That being said, it's working well. The menu is easy to access and navigate. I like the extras like the metronome, tuner, and variable mic positions. I also like how easy it is to transfer files to the PC. And the portability -- great! I was using this within a few minutes of opening the box. Incredibly easy to use. This is what I'm most impressed with. The tone is crisp and clear. I can't get over just how clean the recording is. n/a Your general opinion of this product. I have two small children and limited space, so it's hard for me to keep my recording gear and instruments out and about, ready for use. My hope with the Zoom was that I could set up quickly in any room of the house and lay down a demo or idea or whatever with minimal time. And that's exactly how it works so far. I can 'escape' into a room, turn on the Zoom, and get to work within seconds. No mic needed. No cables. No complicated interfaces. And when I travel, I can easily bring the unit with me for easy recording and playback. For its intended purpose, this little machine works very, very well.

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
I just got one and I can't say anything about long term reliablilty but I like the way it records our band practices-drums 2 guitars, bass, and vocals. I also use it to record my individual practice sessions in case I come up with song ideas and can't remember them later. The recordings are good enough to download onto your computer, burn onto a CD and use for Demos for marketing your band, critiqing your practices, giving to radio stations, music gear suppliers for endorsements, etc ($4)

FEATURES:
Ease of use!! If I can use it anyone can. I think an extra mic input would be nice. it came with earphones and usb. (5)

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
Yes, I do consider it to be well made. The sound is wonderful.

FEATURES:
So far I consider the USB transfer to be the best, but then, too, I like the fact that I can just set it on a bookshelf at choir rehearsal, and get a good recording. All the accessories I deeded were there.Definitely a 5

EASE OF USE:
The only thing that is not the greatest is the size of the print on the LCD readout. But then with the size of the product this is the largest they could possibly make it. Between 4 & 5

VALUE:
Product is definitely worth much more than I paid at AMS. I had a Korg D4 before this, and the sound on that thing can in no way compare with the sound on the H2. Buy the H2. A 5

SOUND:
Sound quality for a unit like this is superior. I played it through the large component stereo in the living room. a 5

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
This unit is so small and light that you won't believe at first glance just how good it sounds.

FEATURES:
Just place the unit in the center of the room, set the recording level and go. The first time you hear what this thing can do, you will be blown away. After you get over the initial shock of how good this works (right out of the box), you will want to start playing with some of the very cool and easy to use features.

EASE OF USE:
I did not even read the manual until I had it for about 3 weeks. It is very easy to use. I took mine out of the box, loaded the batteries, and was recording my band within 10 minutes.

VALUE:
This is what baffles me the most. At $199.00 any musician (or band) needs to own one of these. I swear, you won't want to leave the house without it. The only thing that you will want to do right away is to purchase a 4GB SD Card for maximum recording time.

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
I bought this because of all the rave reviews and I will have to say this product totally lives up to the hype. It's very easy to use, gives you many options including the awesome 4 channel mic record which really captures band practices really solid. This is also a great tool when doing interviews. The quality of recording you get is amazing. I captured everything we did at practice last night and there was NO sound loss at all, you heard everything as you heard it in the room, no loss of bass like with other recorders in the price range. The sound quality alone is worth far more than you pay for this.

FEATURES:
The small nature of the product is one of it's best points. You don't have to do much of anything than point click and record. switch on and off, easy 3 stages of mic gain. The products controls are a lot like a cell phone, but laid out to be more easier and direct. Easy is the key here. However, the only difficulty I encountered is

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
Well made. You probably wouldn't want to drop it, but that's a given with any sensitive electronics, right?

FEATURES:
Tons of features, lots of accessories.

EASE OF USE:
Incredibly easy to open the box and start recording. It takes a little bit of time to find the right "zone" for your particular sound. Overall, not difficult at all.

VALUE:
An incredible value. Comes with a lot of accessories to make recording more convenient. You'll want to upgrade the memory card, but that's common among all digital recorders.

SOUND:
It might take a little time to find what works for you. However, wen you do, you'll be amazed at how great this unit sounds. It's also great for recording ambient soundscapes. Really amazing.

Every Musician Should Have An H2!

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
This AMAZING little recorder is very light. So light that I cannot comment on how long it might hold up. Once you get your paws on this thing you are going to want to carry it with you all of the time! You will probably want to get a small padded case for it. Something as simple as a padded camera bag or "fanny-pack" would work very well.

FEATURES:
The features in this little MONSTER are incredible. The accessories (such as the mic stand mount) are very creative. The engineers at Zoom really put some thought into this thing. The unit comes with a 512 SD card, but you will want to upgrade to a 4GB immediately.

EASE OF USE:
I was recording a very good quality "demo" tape with it (with my 4 piece band) less than 10 minutes after removing it from the box. I simply placed it on a mic stand in the middle of the room, selected the compression level, adjusted the input, and hit the record button. (I did not read the instr

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
Quality of recording is terrific. Case is a bit insubstantial -- plastic -- but that's a personal preference coming out: I like such items to have aluninum casing.

FEATURES:
Does both 2 and 4 track live recordings. Can convert wav files to mp3, all sorts of enhancements and file options, most of which I'll probably never use, but it's got the main thing right: great sound.

EASE OF USE:
Takes about an hour to get down the various menus, but once you get the hang of it, it's fairly straightforward.

VALUE:
At 199 this is truly a steal.

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
The Zoom H2 Handy Recorder is solidly built; I can not find anything flimsy about it. It is a great piece of technology. I take care of all of my possessions; I expect this recorder to last, maybe 20 years or more. It is kind of hard to see the letters, numbers and symbols on the small screen. After a while you know where everything is anyways, on the screen and on the recorder.

FEATURES:
The H2 has so many formats that you can use whether MP3 or WAV. The sound quality is fantastic. Also there are so many goodies in the box that come with the unit.

EASE OF USE:
Read and refer to the manual. The manual is put together very well. This unit is not that difficult to use. It can seem complicated, but after playing around with it for a little while, it becomes quite simple to use.

VALUE:
The price seems kind of high. When you use this product, you will think that it should be priced around $500 or more; it is that

QUALITY:

FEATURES:

EASE OF USE:
The menus are well laid out and intuitive.

VALUE:
Can't beat the price.

SOUND:

Your general opinion of this product.

QUALITY:
It's amazing how sturdy this unit is for its size. It takes up about the space of a deck of cards, but even after being dropped, it showed no damage.

FEATURES:
I like the one touch recording feature where the same button sets levels, starts recording and stops recording. The built in microphones are first rate for their size. LXR or 1/4" mic jacks would be nice to have in future editions of this product. The unit could use a better set of headphones also.

EASE OF USE:
The product is very intuitive. All the features are found in a menu that is plainly marked and that scrolls.

VALUE:
For a $200.00 recorder, you can't get much better than this. Although the manufacturer recommends Alkaline batteries or rechargeables, I find that ithis unit works well on AA Lithium batteries, and you can record for over 24 hours at a stretch with Lithium batteries, where 4 hours is your limit with ordinary Alkaline batteri
