Product Highlights

Product Description

Featuring the ARP Odyssey FS Rev1 with the Korg SQ-1, this bundle is available in small quantities as a limited edition model. The ARP ODYSSEY FS went on sale in 2017 as a reissue of the original ARP Odyssey. With perfectly replicated analog circuits and sound, and a full-size chassis to match the original, this is a limited-production product that is being reproduced and assembled using parts that are now dead stock. Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3 are each assembled in Japan.

Just for this occasion, the KORG SQ-1 step sequencer is also specially included in the package. A limited-edition ARP color version with orange silk-screening on a black panel has been added. Two mini-patch cables are also included so that you can start sequencing your ARP ODYSSEY FS right out of the box. By connecting via CV/GATE, synthesizer fans who prefer analog sequencing can enjoy the infinite possibilities of ARP’s legendary synthesis on a full-size unit.

ARP Odyssey FSQ Duophonic Synthinesizer Features
  • Full-sized ARP ODYSSEY equipped with a full-size, 37 note keyboard.
  • Reproduction model assembled in Japan from an extremely limited number of stock components.
  • Available in all three generation color variants: Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3.
  • All three generation color variants contain all three original analog filter circuit revisions
  • Packaged together with a limited-edition ARP color version of the KORG SQ-1 step sequencer.
A full-sized ARP ODYSSEY with a standard keyboard
As an alternative to the 86% size ARP ODYSSEY with its compact slim keyboard, we've created the ARP ODYSSEY FS, a long-awaited full-size model with a standard keyboard. Featuring a spacious panel layout with faders that are smooth to operate, and a standard-sized keyboard for excellent playability, it's just what the synthesizer lover or keyboardist has been waiting for. Most of all, its weight and essence are the precise image of the original ARP Odyssey. With analog sound that has already established a firm reputation, it is fair to say that this is a true resurrection of the ARP ODYSSEY. Now you can obtain a full-sized ARP ODYSSEY that's perfect in every area including sound, stability, appearance, and size, but with the reliability of a brand new synth.

Carefully assembled in the USA to capture the original spirit
The ARP ODYSEY FS is shipped worldwide following its assembly in New York, USA. Skillfully and carefully assembled by a small number of experienced workers, the ARP ODYSSEY FS is then aged, and finally undergoes repeated testing, ensuring the highest level of product quality as befitting this full-sized instrument. The soul of the ARP Odyssey that emerged here forty years ago is now being perfectly resurrected with its analog circuitry and build quality.

A full lineup of all three design generations
All models of the original ARP Odyssey, each representing its own era, are now available as full-sized instruments. Each full-sized unit has been designed with the greatest respect to the details and individual parts of the original: the white-paneled Rev1 (Model 2000) produced in 1972–1974, the Rev2 (Model 2810–2813) produced in 1975–1976 with its black panel and gold silk-screening, and the Rev3 (Model 2820–2823) produced in 1978–1981 that featured an iconic black panel and orange silk-screening.

“When I look at the front panel of the ARP ODYSSEY FS, it reminds me of all the thinking and decisions that went into the design.

The ARP Odyssey was our first synthesizer without patch cords, so that meant that there had to be a limited number of ways that oscillators, filters, and so forth, could be connected. We tried to pick the connections that we felt would be the most useful. There’s always a trade-off between flexibility and ease-of-use. With patch cords, of course, you could connect anything to anything. But patch cords were too cumbersome to use on stage. So we decided to get rid of them entirely, creating the first ARP aimed entirely at stage use.

The ARP logo with the treble clef sign was designed by my wife, Margaret Shepherd, who went on to become a famous calligrapher and designer (she has written about 20 books on the subject). She also did the lettering on the panel using PressType, long before you could do layouts on a computer.

When I look at the panel, I can almost envision the complete schematic diagram of everything inside. Based on the authentic sound of the KORG unit, it’s clear that very close attention was paid to the engineering that went into the original ARP Odyssey.”
    - David Friend (Co-founder of ARP Instruments)
ARP Odyssey FS
True analog sound generated by a complete replication of the original ARP Odyssey's circuitry. The ARP Odyssey is known best for its sharp and biting tone, and the rich possibilities of modulation that allow an incredible variety of sounds. The ARP ODYSSEY FS is equipped with the very same circuitry as the ARP ODYSSEY, which itself is a perfect replica of the original unit, developed under the supervision of the ARP Instruments company's co-founder David Friend.

  • 2VCO. The duophonic design allows two different pitches to sound when you play two notes.
  • The high degree of pitch stability for which the ARP Odyssey was remarkable in its time has been perfectly reproduced.
  • Pitch is variable over a wide range of 20 Hz--2 kHz
  • Pitch modulation and pulse width modulation can be controlled.
  • Oscillator sync provides sharp, great-sounding overtones extending into a high range.
  • Noise generator provides two noise types: white and pink.
  • Powerful LFO can be used as a modulation source for the oscillator or filter, or as a trigger source for sample & hold.
  • Ring modulator generates metallic sounds with rich overtones.
  • The distinctive S/H MIXER lets you easily create sample & hold sounds by using the oscillator or noise generator as a source that's triggered by the LFO or keyboard.
  • The three types of low-pass filter found on different production runs of the original ARP Odyssey are all provided. With a single switch you can select any one of these filters with their differing characteristics: TYPE I (Rev1) is a 12 dB/octave filter with a sharp and punchy sound, TYPE II (Rev2) is a 24 dB/octave filter that's great for thick low sounds, and TYPE III (Rev3) features excellent stability even when the resonance is increased.
  • A wide variety of modulation sources such as S/H, LFO, ADSR, and AR can be used to modulate the filter
  • A high-pass filter is provided following the low-pass filter, giving you even broader sound design possibilities.
  • A new function, the DRIVE switch generates extreme and aggressive sounds.
  • VCA GAIN slider leaves the note sustaining. Ideal for sound design.
  • Envelope generator with two types: ADSR and AR. This can be used not only for the VCA but also to modulate the filter or oscillator.
  • The original PPC (Proportional Pitch Control) based on a rubber pad has been reproduced. Press the rubber pad with your finger to control pitch bend or vibrato depth in proportion to the pressure.
  • A portamento slider and transpose switch are provided. You can also use a switch to select either of the ways in which Rev1 and Rev2/3 of the original ARP Odyssey differ as to whether portamento is applied the moment that you operate the transpose lever.
  • Two types of audio output jack are provided: 1/4" phone and XLR.
  • External audio input jack is provided, allowing you to process sound from an external device.
  • Headphone jack with adjustable volume is provided. By connecting the headphone jack to the external audio input jack, you can apply self-feedback to generate powerful sounds.
  • CV, GATE, and TRIG jacks are provided, letting you send or receive analog signals to operate the instrument. If you connect the GATE OUT jack to the TRIG IN jack, the EG will not be triggered, allowing you to play legato.
  • Both 1/4" size and mini-size patch cables are included.
  • MIDI IN connector and USB MIDI port are provided, allowing connection to a PC or MIDI device.
Korg SQ-1 limited-edition ARP color version
The SQ-1 is a compact step sequencer with 2 x 8 steps. It's wealth of connection jacks allows it to be connected to the MS-20 and a variety of other synthesizers. Vintage analog synths or the latest compact synths can be controlled from this single unit. You can also switch between a variety of synthesizer modes and use the step buttons to create performances overflowing with spontaneity, just as when using a volca unit.

Liberate yourself from the numerically-bound parameter editing that's typical on a DAW; you'll enjoy truly musical inspiration as you train your ears and concentrate on what your fingertips are doing. Don't miss the experience of music that's driven by your instinct.

Korg SQ1 Step Sequencer Features
  • Connect and control the MS-20 and many other types of equipment
  • A variety of sequencer modes
  • Step edit buttons inherited from the volca, providing excellent improvisatory possibilities
  • Sturdy and compact body, with battery operation
Connect any type of device and control it freely.
When the classic MS-20 analog synthesizer appeared in 1978, it had a trusted partner in the SQ-10 step sequencer. Now, after thirty years, the MS-20 has been reborn as the MS-20 mini, and the SQ-10 has evolved into the more modern SQ-1.

Connect and control the MS-20 and many other types of equipment
Rather than the commonly used V/Oct standard, the CV design of the MS-20 always used the Hz/V standard that provides excellent pitch stability limiting the step sequencers that are able to correctly control the MS-20. As a descendant of the SQ-10, the SQ-1 supports the Hz/V standard, enabling it to perfectly control the MS-20 or MS-20 mini. It goes without saying the V/Oct standard is also supported, and the voltage level of the CV output and polarity of the GATE output can be specified as appropriate for the device you've connected. This versatility will enable you to control a wide variety of other synthesizers as well.

As a connector, the SQ-1 provides two CV/GATE OUT channels, the standard MIDI OUT and USB MIDI, littleBits out (to connect to the littleBits synth kit by littleBits Electronics Inc.), plus the SYNC IN/OUT channel that allows you to connect to the volca series and monotribe. Compact and complete with all the functions you need, the SQ-1 is the ideal hardware sequencer.

Versatile sequencer modes
The SQ-1 provides two channels (A and B) of 8-step sequencer that can operate consecutively, or be used in a variety of other modes. For example, you can run A and B following each other to function as a 16-step sequencer, ignore the order and make the steps play randomly, or use A and B to control different parameters as they run in parallel. From simple sequences to complex changes, you can choose from a variety of modes to suit your needs.

Step buttons inherited from the volca provide excellent improvisatory possibilities
The 2 x 8 step buttons can be used in the usual way to turn notes on/off, but you can also use the MODE button to switch their function, opening up powerful possibilities such as letting you “perform” the sequence itself, as on a volca unit.

“Active Step” lets you skip steps mid-way through a sequence, and “Step Jump” lets you instantly play just the step that you press, producing irregular rhythms or effects that are reminiscent of short loops. “Slide” produces an effect in which steps are connected smoothly; using this to control a synth bass is an easy way for anyone to generate an acid sound.

Sturdy and compact body, with battery operation

Packed with carefully selected functionality, the SQ-1 features a compact and very sturdy sheet-metal body. Placed beside the MS-20 series, you'll notice a sense of solidity that gives the impression they were manufactured in the same era. The unit can operate on two AA batteries or on USB bus power.

*With the exception of the location of assembly, the specifications of the ARP ODYSSEY FS are identical to those of the previously released ARP ODYSSEY FS (ASSEMBLED IN NEW YORK).
*With the exception of the design and the inclusion of the patch cables, the specifications of the KORG SQ-1 ARP color version are identical to those of the usual KORG SQ-1.
*Regardless of whether the ARP ODYSSEY FS is a Rev1, Rev2, or Rev3 model, all KORG SQ-1 ARP color version units have the same design with a black panel and orange silk-screening.
