About the Concertina Body Shape
The Concertina is Breedlove’s small body guitar, delivering a surprisingly clear, crisp, loud sound. It’s 12-frets to the body design make it a joy to play. Extensive Sound Optimization™ engineering has resulted in a body shape that has a bigger sound and is more comfortable to play than a traditional parlor.
About Sitka Spruce
Sitka spruce is grown in the northwest, and has been the primary top wood for U.S.A. instruments for many decades. It is strong, light, and gives an extended harmonic content and nearly equals the power of Adirondack. Strong, focused tone with a solid fundamental — perfect for flatpicking styles. Usually takes a slightly longer period of playing time to open up. When compared with Eurpean spruce, Sitka delivers warmer, more fundamental sound, largely free of overtones. Not so cleanly defined as European spruce but, instead, a warmer, more fundamental, and largely free of overtones.
About Indian Rosewood
East Indian rosewood has been a favored back tonewood used in stringed instruments for centuries. Known for its efficient transmission of bass tones and bright high notes, it has been the preferred back and sides tonewood since worldwide government restrictions have limited the availability of Brazilian and Madagascar rosewoods. It is often associated with the great dreadnoughts as its projection is loud and clear. East Indian rosewood’s sound contrasts with the midrange of Honduran mahogany…rosewood emphasizing the bass and highs, mahogany most pronounced in the midrange. EI rosewood specific gravity is 0.83 compared with mahogany’s 0.59. EI rosewood’s weight in pounds per cubic feet of 52 contrasts with mahogany’s 37. There are significant differences in the musical characteristics of these two most popular guitar back tonewoods. Many artists will own two instruments - a rosewood and a mahogany – alternating depending on the musical situation.
Crafting Guitars to Fit Your Play Style
With Sound Optimization™, Breedlove individually selects and prepares each guitar top with the right stiffness (deflection) for the body shape and the playing style you prefer – more stiffness for stronger strumming - heavier play; more forgiveness for fingerstyle and lighter play.
This Concertina was designed for Lighter Play, Fingerstyle: One of Breedlove’s specialties is crafting guitars with a more focused, individual note-for-note clarity and tonal balance.
Breedlove Neck
Breedlove guitar necks feature a slimmer neck profile, which enables comfortable play, even with smaller hands. Unlike traditional dovetail neck joints that require major surgery for a neck re-set, it is easy to adjust the play action and neck angle with the Breedlove bolt-on neck and single-action truss rod. The hand-rubbed, semi-gloss Breedlove neck finish contributes to ideal playability – the finish process alone takes three days, including precise finish coat applications, fine sanding, and hand buffing and rubbing.
Limited Lifetime Warranty
Breedlove players around the world can attest: With consistent, proper care, your Breedlove will give you a lifetime of service – and inspiration. New Breedlove instruments, purchased through an authorized Breedlove dealer, are warrantied to be free of defects in materials and workmanship throughout the lifetime of the original owner. In addition to materials and workmanship, Breedlove offers a two-year warranty on tuning machines and electronics packages. Cases and bags are subject to a one-year warranty covering defects in structure and hardware.
Note: In 2016 new regulations restricting the commercial trade in products containing rosewood were formalized among 183 nations participating in the CITES Convention. However, you need not be concerned with your new Breedlove. They are thorough in their sustainable wood sourcing, chain of custody management and record keeping. An exclusion was agreed upon allowing musicians to travel with their musical instrument with less than 22 pounds of rosewood content, (the largest Premier weighs less than five pounds in total) so you may travel the world freely without restriction. Should you ever want to sell your Premier internationally, you will need a permit, which Breedlove can assist you with directly.
