One of the first bands to experiment with extreme contrast between groovy riffs and screaming choruses, the Deftones helped lay the foundation for the very style that would become so prevalent throughout the 90’s and years to follow. Formed in 1988 in Sacramento, California, Stephen Carpenter, Abe Cunningham and Chino Moreno began as a primarily heavy-metal band before finding a long term bassist in the late Chi Cheng and expanding their sound further. Inspired by the likes of Tool & Rage Against the Machine the band would develop a loyal fanbase through extensive touring with the likes of Ozzy and Korn. Guitarist Stephen Carpenter rocks his signature ESP LTD 7 and 8 string guitars (SC607B, SC608B) along with his signature Fishman Fluence pickups; while Abe Cunningham handles drumming responsibilities with his signature Vater Cool Breeze Drumsticks. The latest Deftones album, Gore, was released in April 2016 and the band can still be found tearing it up on the road today.
