This high-performance monitor comes in a very compact design and it is extremely well suited for production environments where space is a concern. The BM 5A is well suited for music monitoring and mixing, broadcasting, OB vans, edit suites, playback suites, project studios and smaller post production facilities.
The small size in combination with the renowned Dynaudio Acoustics performance makes the BM 5A suitable for smaller 5.1 productions. The BM 5A monitor is a further development of the BM series and great effort has been made in extending the range with this small active monitor. Our engineers have redesigned and fine-tuned the BM 5A, according to the latest Dynaudio Acoustics technology.
The 2-way active system with a 175mm (6.9-inch) woofer and a 28 mm (1.1-inch) soft dome tweeter, builds on classical reference monitor technology. With the redesign of the exterior and the latest fine-tuning of the drivers, the BM 5A is sure to live up to even the most scrutinizing monitoring standards.
The BM 5A comes with a 2x50 watts amp package and a frequency response of 50 Hz – 21 kHz.
The BM Range
Any outstanding musical production embodies a passion for detail in a quest to create a result that goes beyond the sum of its parts. Dynaudio follows this same principle when developing a studio monitor.
The BM-series loudspeakers are available in active or passive versions. The active versions are high performance studio monitors, which - in contrast to the critically acclaimed Air-Series models - are designed for conventional (analog) amplification.

Founded in Denmark in 1977, Dynaudio originated as a group of engineers and developers who held a penchant for music and loudspeaker design, who came to the mutual conclusion that even high-quality loudspeakers were not able to reproduce recorded music without coloration. At that time, distortion, timing differences, phase shift and a slow impulse response were not only audible, but also clearly measurable.
Dynaudio had initially manufactured speakers using its own crossovers while relying on available OEM drivers. The first loudspeakers Dynaudio introduced in 1977 and 1978 were the models in the P-series. But according to Wilfried Ehrenholz, Dynaudio's co-founder and sole owner, the company knew from its technical background that the only way it could produce a really good loudspeaker product would be by developing its own drivers.
"If you are an OEM customer, you are always dependent upon the development level of your suppliers. But we had ideas that were a long way ahead of the products we could buy, and it was always our intention to aim for the quality end of the market. Within three years of our existence, all of our loudspeaker systems were equipped with our own drivers which were developed by our in-house R&D team."
At this point in time, Dynaudio began selling its drivers to other speaker manufacturers. Ehrenholz says: "This proved to be a very successful move because, while there are many different speaker manufacturers, there are only a few driver manufacturers - and even fewer at the quality end of the market. Within a very short period of time Dynaudio drivers became popular all over the world and were widely recognized for their quality by audiophile consumers".
Ehrenholz is steadfast in his belief that the heart of any system is the driver. "This is the key to Dynaudio's success because our drivers are of the highest quality, with low distortion, extended dynamic range and high power handling. From the onset, we were emphasizing quality and reinforcing the quality message because we always had advanced technology. Of course, quality doesn't come cheap, and it is up to consumers to decide whether they want to pay for top-of-the-range technology or buy something cheaper that doesn't perform as well. At Dynaudio, we have always felt that there is no room for compromise, and we will not allow the company's name to be associated with any product that does not deliver top quality results."
The Dynaudio engineering team in the town of Skanderborg had the ambition to create "a new generation of loudspeakers ", based on its own technological developments, allowing true "High Fidelity". The most important first step was to avoid the accepted, conventional means of material, technology and manufacture prevalent at that time, and to instead realize Dynaudio's own ideas in order to avoid the known disadvantages of the conventional methodology. Only through a vertically integrated approach would build quality and sound quality without compromise be achieved, which was very different to the then dominant opinion that manufacturing precision could be seen at best, but not heard.
The results achieved were innovations in each detail of the loudspeaker, which formed the basis for Dynaudio. Many of original Dynaudio developments and innovations where not immediately understood by all outsiders, but today, they form the core of the driver technology responsible for the advanced Dynaudio sound quality.
Dynaudio - The History
In 1977 when the company was founded in Denmark, Dynaudio, like most speaker companies, manufactured speakers using its own crossovers while relying on OEM drivers.
However, early on the company realized that the only way to further improve performance was through innovation of driver technology.
Dynaudio had ideas and visions that were way ahead of the products available from driver manufacturers and thus decided to start developing driver technology on their own.
A major R&D program of driver technology was launched and after three years, in the early eighties, all Dynaudio loudspeaker systems were equipped with Dynaudio's innovative driver technology.
At this point, Dynaudio began to sell its drivers to other speaker manufacturers. This proved to be very successful as there was and still is a huge demand for high-quality drivers but no suppliers - the very same reason why Dynaudio started to research and develop driver technology.
Dynaudio drivers became popular all over the world and were widely recognized for their quality both by speaker designers and end users. Many agreed with the old Dynaudio philosophy: "The heart of any speakers system is the drivers".
The company has become known for quality, innovation and advanced technology and decided to take full advantage of its driver technology and increased focus on building its own loudspeaker systems.
Simply, Dynaudio wanted to build a brand with a range of loudspeakers that guaranteed the quality that had come to be associated with the drivers. Still today, the fact that Dynaudio starts a product design by designing the right drivers is to a large extend what makes Dynaudio unique compared to many other speaker manufactures.

After achieving an industry leader position and an outstanding reputation in high-end hi-fi, the company enrolled into a unique co-operation with some of the worlds leading studio designers. After experiencing overwhelming interest from the Pro audio market, Dynaudio decided to establish a subsidiary to focus 100% on designing monitors for the professional audio market. Allied with Andy Munro, the studio designer, Dynaudio Acoustics became a reality and rapidly got established and recognized as the technological leader in the Pro Audio market.
