The Limited Edition ‘59 Stratocaster Heavy Relic MN brings to life a color-over-color example from early 1959. 1959 was an important and highly evolutionary year for the Stratocaster because that’s when slimmer necks, rosewood fingerboards and multi-ply laminated pickguards first appeared. Reflecting these historic idiosyncrasies, this Limited Edition ‘59 Stratocaster Heavy Relic MN is available in super faded aged Shell Pink over Chocolate 3-Color Sunburst or super aged Shell Pink.
In May Fender revised its recipe, switching from an all-maple neck to one with a flat laminated rosewood fingerboard. This early version has a rigid and resonant one-piece quartersawn flame maple neck that’s fast-playing and comfortable, thanks to the ‘63 “C” neck profile, 9.5”-radius fingerboard and 21 6105 frets. The two-piece select alder body wears a Heavy Relic lacquer finish, designed to evoke decades of the most punishing play and touring. Fender also changed the pickguard, moving from a white 1-ply to a later multi-ply pickguard. This original-type guard is mounted with eight screws and loaded with a trio of Hand Wound Fat ‘50s single-coil pickups that includes a reverse-wound/reverse-polarity middle pickup to reduce hum.
Other premium features include five-way switch, Vintage Modified #2 wiring, American Vintage synchronized tremolo bridge, vintage-style tuning machines, bone nut and wing string tree. Includes deluxe hardshell case, strap, engraved “Limited Edition” neck plate and Certificate of Authenticity.
