The MX88 is the flagship of Yamaha's MX line of synthesizers. Featuring realistic piano action, the MX88 contains a wide range of authentic sounds for inspiration plus you can easily connect to computers and iOS devices.
Piano Touch
The MX88 features a Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) weighted action. GHS weighted action has a heavier response in the low keys and a lighter response in the high keys. This provides realistic acoustic piano touch and response. Special matte black key tops absorb moisture and remain tactile after extended use, perfect for long practice or performance sessions.
Dynamic, MOTIF-based Sounds
This instrument contains a wide range of dynamic and authentic waveforms derived directly from the world famous
Yamaha MOTIF (including the realistic instrument sounds of acoustic piano, electric piano, synthesizer, drums, and many
others). These give you exceptionally high-quality sound for playing and recording in various musical genres. Moreover,
you can easily play back phrases of each instrument—even complex phrases impossible to play live—by using the
Arpeggio function. The instrument also features an extensive effect system—including VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling)
Effects, REV-X (high grade Reverb) Effects, and Master EQ. In a wide variety of ways, this instrument truly enhances and
inspires your music performance and creation.
Easy-to-use user interface
This instrument has been designed for easy playability and simple, intuitive operation. For example, the Category
buttons let you quickly select a desired Voice from easy-to-understand groups, based on the general instrument type or
sound characteristics. The useful and popular Layer function (playing two Voices together) and Split function (playing
two separate Voices with your left and right hands) can also be set instantly. What’s more, four Knobs are available on the
panel—letting you control twelve aspects of the sound, and tweak them in real time as you play.

Motif Sound Engine
The MOTIF Sound Engine is a powerful synthesizer technology for making sound. MOTIF Sound Engine Voices consist of up to eight Elements. These Elements can be layered for a thick, fat sound or zoned so a different Element plays in different parts of the keyboard. You can also switch between Elements by velocity for extreme dynamics or randomize Elements for anything from subtle variation to experimental sound.
FM Essential
FM Essential is a FREE 4-Operator FM synthesizer app for iOS. The standard version features 10 Voices, but connecting the MX88 Music Synthesizer (via the Apple® Lightning to USB Camera Adapter – not included) unlocks a full 271 FM Voices from classic ‘80s to cutting-edge modern EDM. Full Voice editing capibilities are also unlocked.
FM Essential also features built-in effects, EQ, drum phrases and a step sequencer for automating your control changes.
VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling) Effect
Virtual Circuitry Modeling re-creates the sound and behavior of vintage effects and high-end studio signal processors by modeling the circuits down to the original analog component level.

Jam along with the Rhythm Patterns and Songs
This instrument features a wealth of dynamic Rhythm Patterns in wide variety of musical genres. You can play the
keyboard along with Rhythm Pattern playback—a truly inspiring way to perform! The instrument also conveniently lets
you play back MIDI and Audio data contained in USB flash memory—letting you easily use Song data created on
computer during live performance, without needing a computer! Plus, an [AUX IN] jack allows you to connect a portable
music player, so that you can play the keyboard along with your favorite songs.

The MX88 is USB audio and MIDI class-compliant, letting you record and playback stereo audio to and from your computer or iOS device. This is perfect when recording the MX88 into your DAW and listening to your mixes through speakers or headphones.
The MX88 does more than connect to your DAW, it's also a dedicated control surface. Use the onboard transport controls with your DAW and interact with plug-in parameters via the control knobs. There are dozens of built-in Remote Control Templates for interacting with popular softsynths and plug-ins, giving your software a hardware feel.
With DAW remote control capabilities, there’s also a 16-channel MIDI interface for using the MX88 as both a keyboard controller and tone generator.

Both MIDI and audio data can be transferred to and from a computer via USB—without the need for a separate audio
interface or a MIDI interface. You can record and play MIDI data, record digital audio data from this instrument directly,
and monitor the DAW sound from the OUTPUT [L/MONO] jack/ [PHONES] jack.

This instrument is specially designed to work seamlessly with Cubase, Steinberg’s full-featured DAW software—giving
