First Thoughts on the Heafy Custom LP
Your general opinion of this product.
This is an upper end Epi LP. It looks and feels like a quality instrument. Four things triggered this purchase: the deep set neck, the contoured neck joint, the ebony fretboard, and potential limited production. It does not come with a guitar case.
Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
I believe this guitar was constructed of quality materials and with reasonable care. I assume it will be dependable and reliable. I am pleased with this guitar and I am inclined to believe that its quality and unique features justify its price. However, the Tribute Plus and Custom Prophecy models are $100 cheaper and include a case. I purchased a dent and scratch model. A label on the guitar box indicated it was missing hardware. I suspect this guitar may have been a demonstrator. It was not packed with the greatest care in the original guitar box and the lower strap button tore through part of the guitar box. The guitar had some slight scratches and rub marks. The rub marks came off easily. It was missing the inspection checklist/warranty card and one of the two screws to affix the enclosed, uninstalled pickguard. According to the label on the back of the headstock, this guitar was manufactured in Indonesia and set up in the USA. It weighs in at 9.4 pounds.
Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin?
EMG 81/85 pickups. I believe they work well in this guitar. They are active pickups of course which have advantages, disadvantages, supporters, and detractors.
How did the stain or paint job look?
I think this is a good looking guitar. It is pretty much all black, except for the binding and the pearloid fret markers. Nothing obnoxious about this signature model. I would hate to drill holes in it to install the pickguard, which is a three ply model of reasonable quality.
