SG Sleeper HOT ROD DEVIL DOG

Product Review
I have SGs in all price ranges up to Gibson Artist SGs but I must say for less than what you'd spend at a fine restaurant for drinks this l'il hot rod is ridiculous. Please don't compare the feel to a 2 thousand dollar or even $1000 Gibson but I'm telling you it does little tricks the big boys don't. Mahogany/Maple/Rosewood; Killswitch, 2 angry ceramic puppies I mean I can't think of anything bad to say oh, and is that black 'binding' on the neck?? Yup !! What a trick little hot rod. Like a lot of "cheap" guitars do, this one won't hurt your feelings at ALL. Good luck finding one !! d:D

Love the feel of the neck of this guitar. I adjusted the pole pieces on the pickups, raised the pickups a bit, and added some neck tension. Now yhe guitar plays excellent.
No sharp fret ends. Good flat to round neck. Sounds like an SG. Very much will recommend. The only thing they could improve is the sound quality of the built-in push/push kill pot.
It works, but mine's a bit noisy. Not too much of an issue, but it is an honest review. For looks, the black one rules.

Oh this version with the killpot and gloss finish will probably be discontinued? Very hard to find, only American musical stocks these as of now. So umm better get one before they're out of stock!

I love this Epi SG Special... and AMS... not so much with the person who put this together that thought I'd like it setup as a slide guitar... the strings were waay too high... it should say somewhere what gauge strings come on these guitars... I immediately changed to EB 9's... after lowering the action, trying to set the intonation, the high E can't be adjusted further... I don't try to adjust neck relief myself, so it's going to co$t me more... a much better inspection at the Indonesian plant could very easily solve these things... how long would it take at the plant to ensure the strings are not too high? so I took off a star aimed at Epiphone, not AMS

This is the best guitar for the price the I've ever bought. I own other beloved epiphones/ gibsons and this $180 guitar compares nicely. I'm seriously awestruck at the quality. Perfect right out of the box. No imperfections to the body and plays and feels amazingly. I only wish this had been my first guitar. Was torn with which one to buy and ended up with the ebony one. Will be buying the cherry on soon before epiphone comes to their senses and hike up the price.

It did blow me away. I have owned many guitars. Get this the first guitar I owned was a Silvertone. I was 10 years old. My dad bought it for me. It had a case that had the amp built into it. All in all I have owned 15 guitars. If I was given this guitar as a gift I would figure it would have cost a thousand $. When I first picked it up I knew it is a very well built instrument. I would buy this guitar over and over. I have spent a lot of money on guitars. I can't get over how awesome this guitar is. I can go on and on but I hope you get it.

Your general opinion of this product.
Seriously have to give 5 stars for everything. I can't find any flaws and have much more expensive guitars that simply don't deliver as well as this one does. I'm stumped.
The build on this guitar is very solid. Nothing about this feels cheap. I will gig with this and I feel it is very dependable.
Feels very very comfortable. Neck is fast. It's easier to play than my G-400 and I can't figure out why!
I ALWAYS swap out pickups, but these have a very clear and colorful tone in all positions clean, and very articulate and that "swelling fuzz" in certain types of distortion. Very nice pickups....seriously.
Got it used, but almost all guitars need a good setup, out of the box. When I got this, it had already been set up very well.
It's the Ebony version with the small ebony pickguard. This finish is flawless and eye-catchingly gorgeous.
Only had it about a year and I'm sure the woods are inferior, yet, it sounds awesome and really seems like it will outlast me.

I was surprised at the quality for this price. I own a SG G400 and can honestly say this one seems to be as good or maybe a little better.
Havent had it long, but since I dont plan on using it as a club or carrying it behind the seat of my truck, I dont see why it wouldnt last.
Your general opinion of this product.
Solid built guitar. Easy tp play with a smooth neck.
Average wieght for an SG, neck is smooth and fast. Jumbo sized frets make it easy to play.
Appears to be flawless. Really nice looking guitar considering the price
A little fret buzz in the center of the neck, but new strings and a slight bridge adjustment fixed it right up.

I would consider this guitar to be well built by a master craftsman. Looks to be able to stand up to the beating it will get being played for years to come. I would also expect it to be as dependable as its' relative Les Paul.
The guitar is relatively new since I am the original owner and just purchased July of 2011. I do expect it to stand up over time just as well as my other guitars.
Your general opinion of this product.
Epiphone has been a leader in great guitars since their inception. The SG is no different, and the special model is just as comfortable as the 310 and the 400 model. I've played guitars from all different brands, and I've found that there are very few guitars that can measure up to a Gibson/Epiphone.
Feels like a very well built guitar. Not too heavy not too chunky, and has a fast neck. The controls were well placed for ease of use.
How to describe a tone? The tone can be set to individual songs, depending on your own playing style.
The paint job looks like a Bing cherry. Dark and sweet.
Action out of the box was okay, but still took it down for an initial set-up and strobe.

Top2bottom 1st rate very nice, 2 tiny tiny specs in clearcoat cant see em really..A-1 job

This is one of the most well made and dependable guitars I have ever played, and I would recommend this guitar to anyone.
I've had it for nearly two years, and i had bought it used from my friend who also had it for two years, and it's still in very good condition. The only problem I've ever had with it was when some wires had come loose inside, but it was a very easy fix.
Your general opinion of this product.
This guitar is my second guitar, and i have only ever played one guitar better than this one, which also happened to be $1300 more. This guitar has never let me down, and I don't plan on getting rid of it for quite a while.
The paint job looks great, although I have black, so it gets dirty pretty fast.
I don't know how the action was out of the box, because I bought it from my friend, but right now the action is great.

Its pretty well made. the action can get nice and low once adjusted, and it hardly comes out of tune. i play metal so im jammin on it pretty hard and it stays nice!
ohyeah! its been banged, dropped, hit, knocked over and a little abused and theres nothing wrong with it!
Your general opinion of this product.
pretty amazing for how cheap! amazing starter guitar!
neck is a little thick. that might be because i have a xiphos too and the neck on that is amazingly thin. the action can get very low and not have a problem. stays in tune nice. fretboard feels pretty good. the lower horn allows some pretty good access to higher notes. pickup switch is in a nice spot so you can flip back and forth in a song easily.
the neck pickup is pretty bluesy sounding, kind of thick though. the bridge was pretty good, but i replaced it with a dimebucker for some crunchy tone and nice harmonics! i remember the stock one was decent, you get what you pay for.
well i got the black one; its pretty nice looking. my friend bought a red one a while after i got mine and it has wood grain on it. all the pictures ive seen online didnt have that on the red one. so im not sure if youll get that if you order the cherry or not. im guessing its just the cherry paint job, as shown.
eh it was a little high. too high for my liking anyways. you can lower it with ease though. get a flathead screwdriver and start crankin it tighter until you get to a spot you like!

You can't buy another guitar that comes close to the SG Special

I don't own one, this is not to make any discouraged about buying this axe. It's a great guitar, it has a great neck. Easy to play. Beautiful body. The pickups are good enough for rock 'n roll. The headstock isn't really my style (non of the Epiphone's are - but in real life, they look much nicer, so don't be fooled by the pictures ok) I tolerate them though, and they can be nice machines to play. This SG Special is a perfect guitar for beginners and intermediate players, if you are thinking of going to big gigs, I suggest maybe the Epiphone G310 or the G400 - both amazing Axe. It lakes the beauty of a black pickguard like the Gibson SG has. Other than that and the 2 controls, it's a good axe!

This was my very first guitar. I liked it because it had the sg looks without the price. I later upgraded to the G-400, and then to a Les Paul, and now saving for a PRS. I rated it by the terms of an expirienced player. Don't take the rating wrong. This is a perfect guitar for someone starting out that wants decent tone and playability. The lack of features just make it simpler for a beginner to use. i would recomend this to anyone starting out. Can't go wrong with the price too!

Excellent Guitar
By: AMS Customer from USA
Submitted: 2/5/2008
Your general opinion of this product.
QUALITY:
The quality of this guitar is excellent. The finish is great, and when I got it in the mail, it was already set up.
FEATURES:
The best features of this guitar are the SG body and the action. The action is great, even when not messed with, tapping is a breeze. The SG style body is confortable and light; excellent for gigs.
EASE OF USE:
This SG is so easy and simple to play. I took it right out of the box when I recieved it, plugged it into my old trusty marshall practice amp, played 1 chord and said "Wow. It sounds like I just tweaked it out as much as I could."
VALUE:
This guitar was worth wait and worth the cash. If your looking for a great gift for that little angus young in your family, or just a fellow guitarist, this is perfect.
SOUND:
The sound of this guitar is perfect for ACDC/Chuck Berry/Hard Rock or Metal style music. It has a bright, clean tone.

Good Price for an Even Better Deal

Your general opinion of this product.
QUALITY:
This guitar is definately going to hold up. I have had mine now for 4 years, and it's been through a lot. Still works as good as the day I got it. It has remarkable quality for the price.
FEATURES:
It has limited knobs on it, which make it a little more difficult, but you can still do the same things with it. What I mean is, it only has two knobs, where as a guitar I would prefer has 4 knobs. It just makes it easier to give each humbucker the desired volume.
EASE OF USE:
Extremely easy to use, it's a guitar, it's simple anyway.
VALUE:
This guitar is worth so much more than what you will pay. You're definately getting your moneys' worth with this.
SOUND:
Well the sound is what first caught my attention. I was shocked when I picked it up. The quality that it has is pretty incredible for the price. Definately worth looking into.

SG Special-not bad but could be better
By: AMS Customer from USA
Submitted: 2/5/2008
Your general opinion of this product.
QUALITY:
This guitar is reasonably well-made. My son recently got one of these in the red finish and it's a looker. Frets are fairly well finished, has a nice smooth fretboard, very functional. On the downside, the tuners are very cheap, and the bolt-on neck joint seems to be a little weak. If you play a chord and then move the guitar around (holding it by the neck and by the lower body) it will go out of tune. As long as you hold it still, it stays stable. Could be the neck itself rather than the bolt-on joint.
FEATURES:
I like the dual-humbucker setup, and the finish is nice. It has no pick guard, but I feel this only makes it more attractive. It could use 2 volume/tone controls, but works OK as is. I would add better tuners-in fact, I plan on putting some Grovers on my son's axe. It came with no accessories whatever.
EASE OF USE:
With a little set-up which I did myself, this SG plays & sounds quite good. I played it in church one S

First Electric
By: AMS Customer from USA
Submitted: 2/5/2008
Your general opinion of this product.
This is my first electric. I like the SG Special because it was inexpensive, doesn't have a lot of features I need to mess with as I learn, and I like the sound of it. My biggest complaint is that it is very heavy but she's awfully pretty. I like her cherry red color and finish. My 12 year old son practices on it and likes it as well.
