Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? Top quality maple and koa used, I'm a carpenter so I appreicate the love of wood. One comment would be the gold plated volume control knob is prone to wearing out quickly. When I first got my PC1 I took all the strings off to clean it and it through everything out of alignment so I took it to a guitar shop who set it up and I never did that again. Now I take one string off at a time, tune it then go on to the next one. Reliability How has it stood up over time? I'm living in the UK so my dad bought mine for £1700 back in London about 1998(still have the receipt somewhere) when I first saw it advertised in a guitar mag and I thought that's it. It's my first proper guitar though I can't actually play a full song and it has spent most of its time in the case, it never goes out of tune. I've recently starting playing again and hope to bring the beauty to life. General Your general opinion of this product. It's like an Estwing hammer, meant to be used like a craftsmans tool and it will live forever!! I just need to learn how to play. Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? I warm up on my 1985 Takamine EN-20 which is big so that when the PC1 comes out my fingers glide along and find the srings easier. I clean it with string cleaner & guitar polish. My tutor says it's a very good guitar and he can play. I just wished I had his fingers. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? Sounds great through my tutor's amp but mine is limiting the guitar's full potential. Still sounds awesome though. I use a Pandora PX3, Dunlop crybaby and Boss Delay pedal plugged into a Yamaha Budokan practice amp. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The maple quilted neck is aging slowly with a golden glow. The frets are solid no wear no issues. My fingernails have slightly scratched the fretboard but that's all. It has the koa body the varnish/laquer is thick & perfect. I have a tiny 5mm mark near the back end I made from the strap buckle but this beauty stills looks brand new. I may get the volume knob re-gold plated but not sure at the mo'. Action How was the action out of the box? When unplugged it used to buzz on the low E string near the nut, which always bugged me for ages but now its gone. When amped up it didn't really noticed only you could hear it because of the close proximity. I've only changed the strings twice maybe three times in 15 years so that's good for me. The sustainer works perfectly and I changed the batteries last week noting their dates were 2006 so they must have been in there since 2003 about the time I stopped having lessons. If I were to win, I would like it to go to the Jimi Hendrix Foundation as I think that he would have loved this guitar.

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? The sustainer is problematic. Had it repaired and problem repeated. I use guitar without it. Sounds better that way anyway. I paid $2500 a year ago. Feel sick about it, but guitar performs well despite sustainer problem. Reliability How has it stood up over time? Ha General Your general opinion of this product. Overpriced Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? Nice guitar Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? The PC1 is a well made guitar. Once it's setup, I see no reason that it can't be a guitar you can use for a lifetime. The materials and construction are of high quality. Reliability How has it stood up over time? I have 3 of these and all have stood up over time. Other than the gold hardware tarnishing, the guitars play and sound better as they get older. General Your general opinion of this product. Very good guitar. Well made, quality tonewoods, excellent fit. Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? The neck is not a "shredder" neck inasmuch as it isn't a thin necked Ibanez. The neck is full, but not baseball like. The guitar plays well out of the box. As I have a guitar repair shop, it is easy for me to set it up to my personal preferences. Once this is done, it has become one of my favorites. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? The sustainer pickup is smooth and clean. Not a real distinct pickup, but very usable for clean sounds. Middle pickup is useful for those "in between" sounds. The bridge pickup is very useful. Works well with both clean and dirty amps. I'm running Soldano's and Jet City amps and the bridge pickup is very versatile. You can achieve lots of sounds by using the volume control on guitar. Not a extreme metal guitar, but could be if you sourced the right pickups. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The finish looked great. However, upon inspection there were 3 finish cracks. (2) were in the neck pocket, which is common for Jackson guitars. The other finish was on the face of the guitar at the top of neck pocket. For a $2500.00 guitar, it shouldn't be there. I contacted AMS and they rectified the issue. It wasnt their fault, but they took care of the issue. The back of the neck was also very rough. After a little 1200 grit sandpaper, it was smoothed out and very fast. Action How was the action out of the box? For me the action was ok. With the .010's it could have been a little lower, but was very usable. Nothing a setup couldn't take care of.

Quality Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable? This is where I will rave the most. The VERY first thing I look at with a figured top is the book matching. This is the most perfectly matched top I have seen...maybe ever. Geez...I've seen some PRS tops that aren't matched at all on guitars that go for a few hundred more than this. The figuring of the quilt is also top notch. One very nice surprise and what really makes this guitar is the fretboard. Its a gorgeous yet subtle flamed maple. What a bonus. It isn't really noticeable in the pictures. As for general build, this thing is a tank. I'm pretty sure I could drop this from 7 stories up and pick it right back up and play. Reliability How has it stood up over time? A few days in an no problems yet! This is great considering I bought 2 Parker Niteflys within a week and both had factory defects. General Your general opinion of this product. Playability and Feel How does it feel, Heavy, Fast, Chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? Don't get this guitar if you only play those flimsy Ibanez wizard necks. I could remove this neck and use it as a mast on a sailboat if needed. However, it still plays fast for such a thick neck. The raw finish is very silky smooth. The control layout is perfect, allowing quick switching of the sustainer and feedback. Tone Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick, thin? I suppose a minimal complaint would be the super 3 pickup. A guitar with this much maple really does need a thicker and darker voiced pickup to balance things out. That is personal preference. Pick up could have stood being a little hotter as well. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Flawless. No imperfections. Action How was the action out of the box? Low low LOW. Great shredders action right out of the case. Neck needed a bit of relief but this is normal for a guitar that has traveled or been shipped.
