General What is your overall opinion of this product? Surprised by the quality, playablility and tone. Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? I play mostly clean nowadays and this guitar has great clean tones. Stock pickups are nice and not too much buzz in the single coil modes. Dead quite in 2-4 positions. Feel Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? The neck is actually pretty fast and slim. Not Ibanez slim but close. It's very comfortable to play on. Getting to the controls is no problem at all and you don't even need to look once you play for a few minutes. Tone How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin? From a very warm neck pickup to a bright trem pickup sound, this guitar covers a lot of sonic ground. Standard strat pickup selector configurations. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? The finish is flawless. Absolutely perfect. Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? For what you can do with this guitar it is a great tool for the serious musicians out there. I believe this GK3 built to the specs for this guitar works better than the GK3 sold separately. Could be wrong but I have both and this tracks flawlessly. Playability How was the action out of the box? I tuned it. That's all I did. Then played for about 2-3 hrs. The action and intonation was dead perfect. It did ship with 9's and I'd prefer 10's, so I will do a string swap but out of the box, setup was perfect.
Like it so much I own two of them

General What is your overall opinion of this product? I am 61 years old. Bought my first Fender guitar (Mustang) when I was 15 years old. I have been playing synth guitar since 1987, own 25 guitars, and believe this guitar to be, without a doubt, the best value in the marketplace. I like it so much I own two of them. Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? The workmanship, fit and finish is exactly what is to be expected from a Fender product. It is easy to play and set up. Feel Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? What can I say? It's a Fender guitar. Players like them because they feel right when playing. Tone How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin? Anyone who owns a Strat already knows the variable sounds one can get from the pickups. This model is no different. I can go from twang to bang to smooth by just flipping a switch. It has extremely tight tracking of the midi pickup which makes using as a synth easy to play. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? My first one I purchased new in 1995 and played at least once a week. (I play other instruments as well) The second one I purchased used and has some upgrades I would recommend such as locking tuners and upgraded pickups. The pickups on this one are Dimarzios which are a little hotter, but my stock one is just fine the way it is. Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? I got way more than expected for the money. I really wanted an American made Strat in this configuration and they were around at the time, however after playing this Mexican made one I could not justify the increased cost other than keeping some American luthiers working. Playability How was the action out of the box? Mine came with light strings when new, even the used one had them. Anyone who plays synth guitar know that the more mass in the strings, the better the tracking. I changed to stainless steel 10's which required a tweak in the setup and haven't had to change in over 15 years.

General What is your overall opinion of this product? This is not a good Strat. It is a great Strat! I love Strats. I own three. And have owned Strats since the early 1970's. For 30 years I played a great, early Strat, then sold it to finance a ton of music-related purchases. I have not played a better Strat...until now. This Roland / Fender Strat is incredible. Plays great, sounds great, feels great, looks great, and works perfectly with my GR-55 guitar synth. This is without a doubt, the best guitar purchase I have made, and that is not BS or hyperbole. I am a nit-picking whacko when it comes to guitar purchases, and I am perfectly happy and satisfied with this GC-1 purchase. Quality What is your opinion of the quality of this product? How does it work for different genres of music? I have invested $$$$ in midi-capable guitars and equipment. I have several Godins with the RMC hex pickup, a LP fitted with a GK pickup, and now this Roland GK-3 equipped GC-1. I like the Godins as guitars, but they don't play well with the Roland GR-55 guitar synth. There are documented reasons why this is; RMC sells a retrofit kit for the GR-55 to improve the match. Bottom line, this GC-1 works perfectly with the GR-55. For several years I have been fighting the midi guitar battles, trying everything to find some moderate satisfaction with the GR-55, and finally, I have found the answer, the GC-1. If you own a GR-55 and are less than satisfied with its performance (tracking, noise, not playing certain strings, etc.), buy the GC-1! As a guitar, the GC-1 is also excellent. Great fit and finish. Plays great, sounds great. Feel Heavy, fast, chunky? How was the neck? Are the controls easy to get to while playing? I prefer Strats with the maple neck, but I don't like the finish (or lack thereof) on the modern Fender maple necks. But this neck, is perfectly finished. Smooth as glass, but no stickiness. The neck shape is typical Strat, but perhaps a bit thinner, certainly thinner than my 70's Strat. I have large hands and prefer a wide, chunky neck. But the GC-1 neck feels good and is perfectly playable. The five position switch has positive detents and feels tight, all other buttons work well and are in a reasonable layout. Tone How is the tone? Bright and snappy? Dark and smooth? Were the pickups hot, mellow, thick or thin? The pickups are outstanding. Not sure how they do it, but there is no hum. Every Strat until my Player Deluxe (with noiseless pickups) had hum. Not the GC-1. The pickups sound sweet, every Strat sound is there, except for the hum. Finish How did the stain or paint job look? Black finish is good, it's black and glossy, not much more to say. Again, the finish on the neck is fantastic. Smooth as glass without being sticky. Value Did you get what you were expecting for the price? How does it compare to similar products in the same price range? Anyway, I could not be happier with the GC-1. It plays great, sounds great, looks great, and works perfectly with the GR-55. And AMS delivered it quickly, well packaged, and did I mention, I purchased a B-Stock GC-1, so I got a great price to boot! There is no midi-capable guitar anywhere near this price. Playability How was the action out of the box? The guitar arrived sight unseen in perfect condition, perfectly set up. This is a first. I have purchased dozens of guitars over my lifetime, and only one was set up perfectly, my first 70's Strat. I have had Gibsons, Fenders, Godins, you name it, and except for a Martin, none of them were set up from the factory correctly. This GC-1 plays perfectly, no buzzing, great intonation. In fact, all but two strings were perfectly in-tune!
