It’s durable, it’s got great sound quality and it’s extremely versatile. Great for snare drums, guitar amps, and I’ve even used it for vocals in a pinch. I picked up two of these to record stereo guitar and acoustic tracks. Highly recommend to all musicians!

If I could have only one mic in the entire world to do everything with, this would be my desert island mic. This is one of the most durable designs ever made. The audio is great for vocals, guitar, horns, whatever you throw at it. If you’re even considering picking up one of these mics for the first time, do yourself a favor and just pick one up.

What Can I really say about the Shure SM57 that already has not been said a million times over. There is a reason why its the standard for both Guitar and snare Micing. Its also a great over all vocal and talking mic as well. Simply put If you want to record guitar or you already have a collection of mics and dont have this then you are missing out.

As long as I can remember and I’m now 67 years old, the Shure sm57 microphone has been onstage and in recording studios worldwide. The first time I used one, I was a teenager and apprentice engineer working with Blue Oyster Cult on a demo. The song, ‘Don't Fear The Reaper’ We placed this microphone in front of a pig nose amplifier and cranked it up. Later the band mastered the song at the Record Plant and the rest is Rock n Roll history. Today I run my own studio and only recently purchased the sm57 for the same reason, recording amplified guitar solos. History is repeating itself to a whole new generation.

I’ve wanted one of these for a long time. I’ve had a cheaper Shure mic for some time, one of the PG 58 vocal mics. I’ve always had to be careful not to move around too much or make any handling noise when recording, and also had to be sure to enunciate very clearly. Now I don’t have to worry about that anymore! The SM57 picks up clear and natural sounds, the words come out clear when singing normally without over enunciating, and there’s no noticeable handling noise.

This is not my first sm57 nor will it probably be my last but I have yet to have one fail. These are so versatile, dependable and virtually indestructible it's no wonder they're still the go-to instrument mike after all these years. I only have one complaint. I do have trouble with them occasionally growing legs and walking away on their own forcing me to occasionally replace one.

This mic has become an industry standard for a reason, and I have never encountered a problem with either of the two SM57s that I have owned. Right now I use it to mic a 12" Celestion Vintage 30 speaker in a 4x12 cabinet for electric guitar, and it has delivered every time I have recorded with it. My son actually sang through this into a PA and it still sounded good, lol.

I received this mic fairly quickly after ordering it (3 days or something like that). I can only review it as it relates to recording my guitar amp, and my acoustic, but I’m sure it would do fine vocally. But it’s a good mic. Definitely gets the sound I’m looking for (or more accurately, it captures what you put in, not much coloration), and it’s not tinny like I’ve heard some say. It’s an industry standard, and it definitely delivers.

I bought a few of these and have used 2 amps for a while, but always different amps. Finally got 2 black star idcore 100 watt single 12 speaker and they are awesome for playing and recording. I noticed after I got 1 Senheiser e609 on one amp and 1shure sm57 on one I kept thinking one amp was broken cause it sounded so much better on one amp. Finally figured out the sennheiser sounds way better than the shure. Like it sounds perfect. Clear, nice bass, great response. The shire sounds flat on a guitar amp and the highs tend to get fizzy and need more eq to fix with distorted guitars. These may be good with everything else, but for guitar amps get the Senheiser e609 cause for a near similar price they are better than these

The Shure SM-57 has been an industry standard for many years, and they’re known for their legendary sound. I have owned and used many of these microphones for everything from saxophones and wind instruments, acoustic instruments, keyboard amps and Leslie speakers, guitar amplifiers and even vocals. These microphones are built to last! I’ve never had a problem with any Shure products that I’ve owned. I recently ordered 2 new microphones to replace the missing Shure microphones that I had been using for more than 20 years. Still a great value for the money. Warning: ALWAYS make sure all equipment is loaded and accounted for after a gig!

I should let you know that I am a complete amateur when it comes to recording, but even I can tell how amazing the SM57 is. I've only ever owned one other mic and it was an MXL brand. The MXL made me believe that I needed a better interface and the SM57 assured me that I didn't. I get loud and clear recordings, and because of that I am 100% satisfied.

Tested the mic just to ensure there was no damage during shipping. Tested it in an untreated "very live" room as well as in a less reflective environment for vocals and on a close micing of a speaker cabinet. Shure makes great stuff. I bought the package with the boom stand and cable. Stand is great but there are better cables out there. Good overall value though. Recommended.

You can get as "fancy" & expensive as you want , but for all practical purposes, 99% of your live or studio applications can and will be handled successfully with only two different mics, and this is one of them . ( these suckers just don't break down on you , even with over the top abuse ).

It's a microphone, one of the best to be exact!
I have used SM57's for recording and in live situations. They are the standard for micing guitar amps/cabs, snare drums, you name it. I found, through many failed experiments, that these are perfect for live vocoding. I had many issues with Mics just picking up too much ambient noise on stage and this did the trick.

Beyond just great quality. This mic will last you years without a problem. There aren't many of these that will ever give you a fit, and most of those are officially considered antiques.

Indestructible. Can be used in lieu of a hammer, and be fine afterwords.
It doesn't have a roll-off filter or any of that stuff you find on "fancy" mics, but who really needs all that.
Dead simple. Plug it in. Position it(for recording). Set levels. Play. Easy as it ever gets.
There is a mid range peak around 1k. Kind of dry, sounding. Like all dynamics, Mic Pre choice will have impact on the sound.
It's surprising to realize how much of music you hear every day is recorded through one of these. Entire albums done with just this, and maybe a radio shack mic. The first serious mic anyone should own. People love to hate this mic, But That's just because they're snobs.

These mics take a lickin and keep on tickin. I have used them to mic my drums, and every once in awhile i get a little out of control and give one of them a good smack. Mine is a number of years old and still works beautifully. Shure definitely designed a good workhorse mic, and hasn't needed to change it at all. Two thumbs up!
