Would you consider this product to be made well? How dependable?
I've owned it for four days and I was immediately impressed at it's quality. Yes, the pads are solid and can clearly take a beating but the unit itself is high quality.
What do you consider to be the best features of this product? What features would you add to this product if you could?
There is clearly a learning curve to really get into the bells and whistles but I would have been disspointed if that weren't the case. Simply stated, the DTX will do a lot so there is going to be a lot to learn.
How is the tone?
Killer! I am really impressed with not just the samples (sounds) but it's responsiveness. As a percussionist, I know the difference between a "good" conga sound and a "bad" conga sounds...this thing sounds like a real conga. In fact, all of the samples are spot on, perfection.
Your general opinion of this product.
I've only had it for four days but so far I am really impressed! Quality, sound, responsiveness...top rated!
Was this item an overall good value?
It's expensive unless you consider the amount of gear you would have to buy to get this much variety in your rig. Plus, when you consider the time you will save breaking down/setting up and loading and unloading, I'm not sure you can do better than $700.
It will compliment any drum kit or percussion rig. I recommend the DTX stand just for positioning sake but there are other ways to attach it to your rig.
